The royal family

Why is Sarah Ferguson at the Easter service?

I am really perplexed about why SF attends all Royal events since the death of the Queen when Andrew
is present. She behaves like his wife but she isn’t his wife. What on earth is going on? I cannot think of another situation like this where an ex wife lives with her ex husband and attends all public events with him as though they are still married. It’s bizarre.

Divorced couples do get back together, it isn't unheard of, sometimes they remarry. Not all divorces are bitter with arguing.

If it's such a huge burden, it seems a bit awful that William wouldn't want to support his elderly father with cancer with it a bit more

I suspect he wants to focus supporting on his recently recovering from cancer wife (who admits that she has good days and bad days) and their young children, who are at the age where the burden on the crown and fame will be slowly dawning on them.

My parents split up but still functioned to some extent like a couple. Even when living separately he would be round doing her decorating and we would all have Christmas together and this kind of thing. Royals live in a massive house so can choose to avoid each other when they want to. However in this case it’s possible they reconciled but it was too complicated to explain to the public at the time.

I work with two people like that. Get on better not living together. Effectively act like dating couples but are divorced. Visit each other, have nights out, family time together. No other partners.

It certainly looked like they were having a really hard time of it on their holidays this year. The burden looks crushing.

Anyway as I worked a couple of days this week, I need to go and get some family time in..

Tootles!

Charles went to church in Scotland.

Not really sure why everyone is saying if it was ok by Charles to miss it, it’s ok for William anyway. There’s lots of things Charles did I wouldn’t want William to repeat.

Edited

We don’t know that William didn’t go to church though. We just know he didn’t attend the church with the rest of the family. I imagine he just wants quiet family time and private worship considering what a shit time of it they had last year.

Swings and roundabouts.

sofasoda · 21/04/2025 08:31

I still think it’s good she rewears coats …

Well it would be completely wasteful not to but it's not the same as me rewearing my clothes.

sofasoda · 21/04/2025 08:32

The whole notion of monarchy is totally outdated.

Agree but I feel he likes some of the trappings

It would 100% be in the Daily Mail.

sofasoda · 21/04/2025 08:34

And that is, don't expect to see us much. I think they will attend the state occasions they cannot get out of but anything else, no

I don't think a lot of the public will be satisfied with this though

FiveFoxes · 21/04/2025 08:34

DrPrunesqualer · 21/04/2025 01:54

No
He didn’t

He was Catholic till death and established himself as head of The Catholic Church in England

The liturgy remained the same.
Even now if you attend the high Church of England they pray for the Catholic Church. Even at the Coronation of every king and Queen of England in history ( including Charles ) we pray for the Catholic Church.

It was only with Edward, who was brought up Protestant because of his mothers family, that Protestantism was accepted in England. Until Edward they were persecuted here.

Henry was never a Protestant

Edited

I know the thread has moved on, but..

The Church of England doesn't pray for the Catholic church, it prays for the catholic church. The capital is important - Catholic is the church the Pope leads, catholic means world wide or universal.

The exact words are "holy, catholic and apostolic church".

HufflebuffsAreOn · 21/04/2025 07:59

@IpsyUpsyDaisyDoos do you think the late queen would ever have missed the Easter service because one of her kids was ill? Did your husband stay home the entire time you were ill? No work? I mean it is possible to go out and not spread a bug you don’t have.

She got plenty of criticism for leaving her children to be brought up by a nanny and their granny. You can't win can you.

sofasoda · 21/04/2025 08:35

We don’t know that William didn’t go to church though

100% photos would be "leaked" for PR purposes

Ohpleeeease · 21/04/2025 08:37

PrettyFlyforaMaiTai · 21/04/2025 08:25

To be fair there is precedence for Princes of Wales not attending the public Easter service. Charles didn’t attend 18 years in a row before the late Queen died. It doesn’t seem to have affected his reputation as the Head of the Church of England 🤷🏼‍♀️

It’s of note that Andrew was there and William wasn’t. If this was William making a point, my view is it was the wrong time to do it.

Exactly—how dare she go on holiday while recovering from cancer. Didn’t she get the memo that once you’re ill, you’re meant to be locked away in Anmer Hall looking suitably miserable 24/7? Fun is obviously off-limits unless personally approved by the public tribunal of Internet Experts.

By the way, this isn’t a departure lounge, you don’t need to announce you are leaving you know.

EdithBond · 21/04/2025 08:37

PrettyFlyforaMaiTai · 21/04/2025 08:22

She keeps gate crashing through Beatrice and Eugenie ala The Windsors?

I don’t get it either. Are they a couple? Are they not? Friends with benefits? Is she blackmailing him. It’s all very odd.

Suspect he’ll radically modernise. Don’t know how other European Royals are set up, but suspect he’ll take that as a model. Ditch as many of the powers and traditions as poss. Charles likely more of a stickler for tradition as hugely influenced by Queen Mother. But I thought even he wanted to scrap being Head of C of E and become ‘defender of all faiths’.

Charlize43 · 21/04/2025 08:37

If you watch The Windsors with Harry Enfield and Katy Wix, it will explain it all.

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 21/04/2025 08:38

It's bizarre that people are complaining about William missing church because he will once day be head of the Church of England. It merely highlights the ridiculousness of having an established church with a hereditary monarch at its head.

For all we know, William might be an atheist and not give a shit about Easter, but it's hard to imagine him ever being allowed to actually say that. As long as he goes through the motions, it wouldn't really matter in any case. But who knows, perhaps he will be brave and refuse to take the role on, and we will finally be able to divorce the church and the state once and for all?!

Needspaceforlego · 21/04/2025 08:39

Well no the papers wouldn't report if the Wales had gone to church elsewhere. They have agreements to leave the kids alone outwith agreed events.

The Wales going to church with the Middletons would have been a private family event.

HufflebuffsAreOn · 21/04/2025 08:39

@TheignTnonsense. Most parents work very hard to achieve a balance between work and family, and achieve it. The royals should be no different. In my view, William and Kate shirk their duties and the kids are often used as an excuse. It is offensive to working families. William and Kate are lazy (in my opinion).

I don't think W will step down. Because it would be a major constitutional crisis. I just think the family is priming the public slowly bit by bit as to what to expect when he becomes king.
And that is, don't expect to see us much. I think they will attend the state occasions they cannot get out of but anything else, no

Actually, if we have to see the RF at all, that would work very well for me

They don't need to unveil plaques and all the fripperies - they didn't during covid and the sky didn't fall - and it's not as if they have many left to do it, so why not just stick to the really major occasions and otherwise get on with tthings quietly?

Edited to add someone will doubtless say "their charities need them", but even there I believe there are stats indicating that their presence doesn't add very much to the bottom line, and if they care that much they could always chuck in a few million from ttheir ample money

People are only mentioning the holidays because others are saying they are too ill/tired to work....

BitOutOfPractice · 21/04/2025 08:23

He went to church in Scotland apparently.

And really, so few people care about the head of the established church guff. It’s even more outdated than the monarchy itself and that’s saying something.

If you have a role, it’s the people who do care about that role you need to factor in, not the ones that don’t.

sofasoda · 21/04/2025 08:40

Something would get leaked and/or put on the socials

So you don’t think putting on a brave face for the kids to let them feel slightly normal might have tired her out? As she has stipulated, she has good days and bad days. Recovering from cancer isn’t being sick by the book you know?
