If we assume that Harry already knows, then it's going to be in his favour. I don't think he'd be there in person otherwise. 😕

I agree and we are going to get some ridiculous grandstanding by his barrister which is completely not related to the case/over eggs his security risk. Urgh!

IdaGlossop · 02/05/2025 11:54

I'm not sure Harry is in the UK to hear the result of his appeal. This headline 'Harry to discover legal outcome of battle over security while in the UK' has two meanings: 1. Harry is in the UK for the ruling 2. The ruling is about his security when he is in the UK.

If he was in the UK today, I think the headline would be different: 'Harry in UK to hear appeal court ruling on his security'.

BasiliskStare · 02/05/2025 11:56

Yes - I'm not sure he is in the UK @IdaGlossop - not that it matters either way - he did not need to be at the appeal.

Even if he's 'won', it would be overkill to be in the UK to hear the outcome. It was bad enough him being here for the hearing.

Profhilodisaster · 02/05/2025 11:59

Maybe it won't go in his favour then , I'm sure he would attend if it had, so that he couldgloat celebrate with his lawyers.

MrsLeonFarrell · 02/05/2025 12:10

I don't think there is evidence he is here at the moment. The news are running footage from the last time he was in court.

Serenster · 02/05/2025 12:29

I want to say that he has the option to request permission to appeal to the Supreme (?) court if he loses this appeal, which would be the final end game. But no guarantee that they would accept the appeal (I think, definitely not an expert in this)

You are correct, @ellesar! Harry gets two bites at the cherry to get permission to appeal to the Supreme Court if he loses. First, he applies directly to the Court of Appeal - the same judges who will have just determined against him. If they says no, he can then apply again, directly to the Supreme Court. If they say no, he is out fo options.

Obviously if the Home Office loses today, they would have the same ability to apply for permission to appeal.

The Supreme Court only hears appeals of matters of law that are in the public interest. So it’s not immediately obvious that they would take an appeal brought by an individual in relation to the decisions of a body which has a very limited scope.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 02/05/2025 12:42

You're more than welcome, @BasiliskStare Smile

And that's an excellent piece of timing with your return to the thread, @Serenster Grin

jeffgoldblum · 02/05/2025 13:43

What’s grok?

Laserwho · 02/05/2025 13:44

I'm watching live on BBC and nothings been announced yet. Supposed to be 2pm

notimagain · 02/05/2025 13:46

Don't know about Grok but the Guardian has just opened live coverage on the announcement and states the judges 'will give their decision at 2pm."

Profhilodisaster · 02/05/2025 13:53

jeffgoldblum · 02/05/2025 13:43

What’s grok?

I've no idea!

TheNinkyNonkyIsATardis · 02/05/2025 13:55

Grok 3 appears to be AI, and it has splinters in its arse from the look of those answers.

Profhilodisaster · 02/05/2025 14:06

What's all that wailing in the background

MrsFinkelstein · 02/05/2025 14:12

Judge is reading out his verdict, so far, I'm not seeing that Harry has won his case

MrsFinkelstein · 02/05/2025 14:14

Yup, Harry's case dismissed

MrsFinkelstein · 02/05/2025 14:15

Paraphrasing, but while he acknowledged Harry had grievances about his security being changed, that was a human element and not a legal issue.

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 02/05/2025 14:15

Case dismissed!

MrsLeonFarrell · 02/05/2025 14:15

Case lost.

Profhilodisaster · 02/05/2025 14:15

Dismissed

Laserwho · 02/05/2025 14:16

Let's hope he will now have to pay the costs and stop wasting taxpayers money.

MrsLeonFarrell · 02/05/2025 14:16

"I could not say that the Duke's sense of grievance translated into a legal argument. "

Finally.

TheMeasure · 02/05/2025 14:17

Hoo-fucking-ray!
Now maybe he’ll stop wasting everyone’s time and find something constructive to do.
