Watching the news about the horrendous rubbish problem in Birmingham, this was followed by Kates film clip rambling about Windermere saying we need to connect with nature and couldn’t help thinking it was inappropriate.I bet cancer sufferers in Birmingham would love to do this instead of holding down a job worrying about col doing chores that I bet she never does and have stinking rubbish with rats in the streets. I have no problem with her video but thought the timing was so off. They sometimes need to read the room.

So the newspapers are all copying whichever one first published an article about a non event. That doesn't mean there is a RF crisis because William is not attending a private family event that is neither compulsory nor a duty. Even if he has attended for X number of years, nobody has a right to expect him to because it is a private matter. Some nutters may think his staying at home with his wife and children is a sign of the sky about to fall in. Luckily, most of the public have better critical thinking faculties and/or simply don't give a shit. It just means the papers are filling column inches and there are probably a few pissed off gossip and fashion journalists. Actually, they are probably delighted because they can now froth about fractures between Charles and William, and a constitutional crisis brought about by the Wales family staying at home and eating Lindt bunnies while the public and Birmingham weep.

I appreciate what your opinion is, but it just seems rather disproportionate to what William is doing. Especially as he may well attend Church anyway. We don’t know yet. But he absolutely does not have to do so in Windsor, if at all. You seem to be saying that the RF have to parade about for the benefit of the public, even when it’s a private event, because there is an “expectation”. But that does not mean that it is compulsory for someone to perform to that “expectation”. The “expectation” is other people’s problem in this particular case. Just because the family usually gather for this service, does not mean they have to

So the proportionate aspect of the argument, because of his status, future role, I do believe that this is something he should be attending and that it’s important that he attends the service at Windsor.

The idea of parading about not being what they do, well they do. It’s very much part of they do.

The RF uses the soft power of family at religious events. It’s important for the palace to show this image of the family, so we can see how the monarch undertakes their role as head of the church and head of the family. This is why they let the press into the Windsor grounds to record this event. It’s part of the exchange we do as the public and the RF. We see how the head of the church celebrates big religious events in the church calendar. As future King, William should understand this.

When this starts to break down, the public starts to ask bigger questions about the role of the RF and what exactly they are representing.

You labelled me obsessed and a royalist. On top of initially using a religious label….that you then went on to indirectly use, even if you were no longer directly using it.

However, you shouldn’t be applauding yourself for no longer using such names. You shouldn’t be doing that when having a ‘healthy debate’ in the first place.

How did I indirectly use it? Please
explain? I am merely trying to work out why to are so upset about a prince who is not the head of the Church of England isn’t attending a public Easter service, like many others before him. You seem almost hysterical on the matter and I cannot understand it.

It’s reported because it’s news.

It’s not breaking news, or headline news. It’s not the craziest news story we’ll hear today.

I get that.

But this is part of a bigger picture of William picking and choosing what he does and the public are beginning to see this. There is a lot of good will towards Kate and wills but there is growing rumblings about the way they approach their work. William isn’t stepping up. He’s pissing about attending Villa matches and not attending the Windsor event.

Again. This isn’t the view of people on here. But it’s the view of a growing number of people. He seems as out of touch as his brother about what his role should be.

The public though consist of many faiths @AtIusvue and I believe Charles is Defender of all of those. There has been concerted efforts in recent years to embrace this fully. This is yet another evolution away from or rather alongside a one religion state. You personally have your own expectations but everyone doesn't share them.

PrettyFlyforaMaiTai · 18/04/2025 00:12

AtIusvue · 17/04/2025 23:50

Yes. That’s precisely my point. If there were no expectations on him, him not attending wouldn’t be news.

But there are expectations based upon his seniority, his future role as head of the church and the decades of precedence. Thats why it’s news.

Well the Queen didn’t attend the opening of Parliament in 1959, 1963 and 2022, and that is an expected duty of the monarchy. Yet she seems to have retained her popularity. Charles as Prince of Wales has not always attended a public Easter service or Trooping of the Colour. So why is this one specific Easter service something that is so dear to your heart? I think you are quite mistaken in your claim that this will make the Prince and Princess of Wales unpopular.

Surely that’s against Mumsnet rules to name call and use slurs. Please, refer to the guidelines and report if you think I have broken any rules friend 🥰

Was it the Duke of Wellington who said “Publish and be damned?” Either report me for rule breaking or else admit it has been a healthy form of debate. I have enjoyed sparring with you 🤺

I agree it’s dragged on. But I have also been told this a healthy debate that people are engaging in, so what is it?

Why has it dragged on? Because I asked someone to refrain from calling me names and answered the multiple posts. No one had to engage with my posts, including yourself. I’ve answered in good faith.

My initial post could have been lost to the ether.

Is being a devout Protestant name calling? Wow, I’ll remember to pass that on to my grandparents. That’s awfully bigoted of you.

Also, I said I didn’t understand why you were concerned with the matter UNLESS you were a devout Protestant or Royalist. Thats not the same thing. As soon as you told me you were neither, I refrained from saying as such.

RandyRedHumpback · 18/04/2025 00:25

Well I am sure a "growing number of people" (whatever that means) will get used to seeing the RF members do different things as time goes on and we get further away from the reign of QEII. I'm sure a growing number people never thought they would end up liking and respecting Camilla, let alone accept her as queen, but look where we are. The country survived! You should credit the public with more intelligence. I'm sure there are enough people with critical thinking faculties to assess that William missing an Easter service is neither a big deal nor necessarily a bad thing considering the 12-16 months the family has endured at the hands of his brother's supporters and the press, who are stirring as usual. And, once again, I think you will find most people simply don't care, and are not brain washed about what to care about by gossipy, trivial "news" items.

Anyway, this is pretty boring now and I am off to bed. I will look forward to Easter Day armageddon, when Anne wears something old to church, and Beatrice looks at Sophie a bit funny.

What hostility? The only hostile thing I remember being said between us is when you said I was being passive aggressive. But I chose to believe that was a poor choice of wording and ignored it. I feel like you are trying to paint a victim narrative because I am
not agreeing with you. Despite that, I don’t agree with you because of your poor persuasive writing and lack of evidence to back up your opinion.
