Watching the news about the horrendous rubbish problem in Birmingham, this was followed by Kates film clip rambling about Windermere saying we need to connect with nature and couldn’t help thinking it was inappropriate.I bet cancer sufferers in Birmingham would love to do this instead of holding down a job worrying about col doing chores that I bet she never does and have stinking rubbish with rats in the streets. I have no problem with her video but thought the timing was so off. They sometimes need to read the room.

How is the sequencing of news items anything to do with the Princess of Wales?

OldIndianLady · 16/04/2025 10:32

They're not speaking to the same audience. Kate is talking to Royalists.

portocristo · 16/04/2025 10:33

I didn’t say it was, the scheduling was wrong.

You do realise she was promoting The Scout Association? Which is a great environment for children to become involved in?

Take that up with the producers of the News show you were watching then.

Thefunnel · 16/04/2025 12:25

I'm no royalist, but she really has nothing to do with the situation in Birmingham or the sequence of the news items. It's bonkers to link them.

How about putting Birmingham before what's happening in Sudan. Is that ok?

Hortus · 16/04/2025 12:34

Don't be ridiculous OP. Scheduling of news items is nothing to do with the royal family.

Also it is beneficial mentally for people to connect with nature. You don't have to go to Windermere and it certainly doesn't have to cost much at all, you can walk in a park in Birmingham or any city for free or get on a bus or train and go anywhere outside a city and walk in the country for a few hours. People who work do get days off. It's irrelevant whether the Princess of Wales has to do chores.

CandiedPrincess · 16/04/2025 12:35

The people of Birmingham could also dispose of their own rubbish. It's not hard.

This post is crazy.

Maybe bring that up with the news station?

dottydodah · 16/04/2025 13:02

Well I am a fellow Cancer sufferer, who had treatment at the same time as Kate.I welcome her pieces of getting better and enjoying life .For many of us Cancer treatment is hard and tiring ,and any window of hope is appreciated. Rich or poor this disease is a great leveller .I was not working (early retirement/pt landlady) at the time, but DH and our lodger /friend cooked and cleaned up .Hopefully other people have some support as well . I see your point, but we are not all confined to bed you know! I managed a couple of NT properties last year.lots of seats ,and the kind Assistants lent me their laptop to look at upstairs ceilings ( very ornate) and historically important. while DH went upstairs .Bad knee also!

RandyRedHumpback · 16/04/2025 13:23

What a ridiculous post! As pp said, news scheduling stories is not Catherine's problem, let alone a RF problem. And Catherine promoting Scouting and spending time in nature has nothing to do with other news stories, nor should she (or anyone else) have to silence herself because the news might get it wrong. As far as I am aware, she puts her stuff up on Instagram, the news orgs taking it up is entirely on them. Perhaps, OP, save your rage for the government for spending £26m on bringing Invictus to rubbish filled Birmingham, rather than using that money to help bail out the council and give some relief to the citizens living there day to day.

portocristo · 16/04/2025 13:28

I repeat I never said it was Kates problem and I am truly glad she is in remission, I think the clip would be uplifting for people but not straight after the Birmingham news. That was the point I was making.

Perhaps H could read the room, too, and call off the Invictus jolly until the bins are emptied.

I don't think Birmingham ratepayers got stiffed for the cost of making C's video

ScaryM0nster · 16/04/2025 13:32

Often positive news is scheduled as a follow up to the rubbish stuff, so there’s a slight lift at the end for people’s mood.

pilates · 16/04/2025 13:33

Your post came across a bit snipey op

Fintoo · 16/04/2025 13:34

I know that people like to criticise the royals, but this one is scraping the barrel. Anyway, Birmingham has Sutton park, it’s enormous and has a lake. Hopefully there’s no huge mounds of rubbish there.

The title of this post makes it about Catherine. The content of the post makes it about Catherine's "privilege" and what cancer sufferers in Birmingham don't have. Your emphasis is on her, not the way the news is scheduled. The timing being "off" (as you put it) centers around her video, not the way the news org has chosen to use her video. I think you are being disingenuous.

Redcrayons · 16/04/2025 13:44

I’m no royalist, but you’re being a bit harsh to the poor woman.
She doesn’t schedule the news.
Loads of charities benefit from their association with royals.
If she’s not allowed to do anything whilst awful
things are happening in the country, she’d never leave the house.

Snorlaxo · 16/04/2025 13:44

You phrased your post as if Kate’s timing was off rather than the channel who produced the news.

The news often has a light hearted/happy ending to the programme on purpose and this has nothing to do with the royals. People see the earlier stories as more newsworthy and serious and I think that most would say the bins in Birmingham should rightly rake precedence

portocristo · 16/04/2025 13:46

Maybe I will

what has POW got to do with a strike in Birmingham, bit of a reach.

Mr Tickle would be impressed by this reach
