Harry RAVEC decision appeal

I thought I would start a separate thread to discuss the court case which started today. I for one am still baffled as to why Harry thinks that his treatment has been unreasonable, given that he no longer lives in the UK, but is still given security on a case by case basis when he visits. This seems perfectly reasonable to me 🤷‍♀️

According to Sky updates, Harry 'was seen eating a Pret a Manger lunch during the break' 😄 ah, the good life!

At the time of Megxit he clearly believed that he was entitled to IPP status for the rest of his life because they published the following statement on their Sussex website announcement claiming they would always have the equivalent of royal protection officers.

“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are classified as internationally protected people which mandates this level of security.”

That section was deleted the very next day presumably after someone explained that was not how it worked.

But I imagine in the planning sessions for their exit when they were taking that break in Canada that Harry had told Meghan and their team that they wouldn’t have to worry about paying for security. And he’s been embarrassed and trying to save face ever since.

He said ( in Spare I think) that he told Meghan there was no way their security would be removed .

I don’t understand why he thinks anything would actually happen to him in the UK when he is still being offered security if he gives notice that he is coming, or if there were to be a current and credible threat to him. When he says he is being treated differently, he doesn’t seem to grasp that this is in fact a good thing as his treatment is, in fact, preferential

Well the thing is @smilesy, as I understand it his rather overblown statement was if something happened to him in America not actually here!
so it’s even more ridiculous!

wordler · 08/04/2025 14:28

meercat23 · 08/04/2025 14:24

I wouldlike to know exactly who he is comparing himself to here. As I understand it, all members of the RF other than KC/QC and W&C only have protection when on royal duties. He doesn't have any royal duties so he is actually getting superior consideration as compared to eg Princess Anne or the Edinburghs. This, I think, lends support to the view that it is PW he is comparing himself to but PW is a working royyal and heir to the throne.

It’s very clearly William and Catherine.

I think he’s imagining turning up to those Royal events the whole family go to and William and Catherine will arrive with their motorcycle escort and fleet of security officers and he and Meghan will have to take the minibus with the rest of the cousins.

He was right! They would always have security. Of course. Just not on their terms and with seemingly unlimited taxpayers money.

Exactly.

He does get security. He just doesn't have highly trained specialist security officers sitting around twiddling their thumbs waiting for the 5th in line to pop over for a polo game or whatever.

This is what I mean when I say this 'case' is being driven by resentment and jealousy, not by any rational assessment of the facts. So much time, energy and money for this farce. I wouldn't care, but much of the above is being borne by the taxpayer. So much for 'he doesn't cost you anything'.

The minibus that they refused to take for the Platinum Jubilee service !

Although they didn't take the cousins minibus at the Platinum Jubilee service to St Paul's. They were provided with a private limousine.

And somehow during the OW interview A&L's titles were conflated with security in a way I never understood.

His argument he was born with the risk is surely easily batted away - So were Anne and Edward etc but they've had changes made and they're actually doing something.

Sorry I’m still in utter disbelief that the silly idiot actually said that if anything happens to him it would harm the U.K.
and the people would be upset!!!!
really? Really? 🤔🙄🤣

Yes. He actually believes that.

I bet the bus was a lot more fun - he’s such an idiot not to have embraced the non working Royal role with joy and enthusiasm - he could have been having a laugh with Zara and Mike Tindall while William has to make small talk with city councilors.

BasiliskStare · 08/04/2025 14:36

@IcedPurple " I wouldn't care, but much of the above is being borne by the taxpayer. So much for 'he doesn't cost you anything'. "

But if he loses this appeal he will have to pay costs . Please tell me that's true 😁

TizerorFizz · 08/04/2025 14:17

I think it’s about money. Being Royal with security means you are somebody. He wants that to continue. It’s sad and he gave it up. So the security goes too. Hope he doesn’t win or everyone will buy police security!

Well, part of the problem is that he is insisting on armed protection. This can only come from UK police/security services. You can't have various security teams rocking up in London, toting Glocks. The only exception is made for the US President who is allowed to have his own close, armed protection. I'm assuming that's what Harry wants. He no doubt sees that as perfectly reasonable. He's equivalent to Obama, right?

In theory yes, and early on in this farce the HO lawyer said they intended to pursue him in full for their costs.

But, and those more familiar with legal affairs can correct me on this, I've heard that in practice it can be difficult to recoup costs, so even if he loses chances are the taxpayer will be on the hook for at least some of the expenses.

Pret a Manger??? M is not fulfilling her trad wife duties. Why didn't she prepare him an As Ever lunch box, with savoury pancakes, sweet shortbread cookies and steeped ginger (🤣) tea, all three items sprinked with flowers... sorry gerbil food (according to some on X), 'just so he knew she was thinking about him? Now, he will feel abandoned, lonely and forgotten, which will trigger his memories of putting Elizabeth Arden face cream on his frozen todger.

He violated NY law by not wearing a seatbelt in that taxi. In fact, none of them were wearing seatbelts, which is odd if you are in a high speed car chase.

I'd love to see RAVEC suddenly
produce Backgrid- provided footage.

Harry has often been pictured without a seatbelt.

My guess would be that he's one of those people who can't accept partial accountability - for his mum to have not been responsible for having her seatbelt on, you must NEVER need a seatbelt on when being driven.

Given what happened to his mother, It's astonishing that he doesn't wear a seat belt every time he gets into a car.

Yes, I think the Home Office will try to recoup, but may not manage to.

Which is why the whole NY car chase thing gives me “echoes of what happened to Diana” vibes

He's too angry to listen to advice, if he doesn't let his old life and all his resentment go, it will eat him up.

Right idea but maybe wrong tense, considering he already seems pretty eaten up?

As I've said so often, this simply isn't how happy and successful people behave, so the natural conclusion is that he's neither

I agree @Profhilodisaster, it’s very unhealthy. He wanted to leave, he left, and he’s becoming less and less relevant within the RF so his (and his children’s) security is determined differently to say the Prince and Princess of Wales and their children. Why is that so hard to grasp?

TizerorFizz · 08/04/2025 14:44

@DelectableMe Yes. The point is he cannot buy Royal security levels as he’s not a working Royal. I think if you give up the job, you give uk the Royal armed security. Taylor Swift doesn’t get it. Or Elon Musk. Although British, Harry is on a par with them now - unless the court thinks differently. He has said he will pay for such a service, but it’s not for sale is it?

@IcedPurple Harry is worth enough to pay costs if awarded against him. It’s something he must have been advised about. He’s not destitute as far as we know. Maybe he will try and tap up Papa?
