Harry RAVEC decision appeal

I thought I would start a separate thread to discuss the court case which started today. I for one am still baffled as to why Harry thinks that his treatment has been unreasonable, given that he no longer lives in the UK, but is still given security on a case by case basis when he visits. This seems perfectly reasonable to me 🤷‍♀️

I thought Harry's barrister was really good ( I disagree with the claim but I thought she was doing her best in the circs) - Until This (DM reporting closing speech - so assuming ok as public domain)

"In a stirring speech with the Duke of Sussex sat 15 feet behind her, the prince’s barrister Shaheed Fatima KC told the Appeal Court: ‘One must not forget the human dimension to this case.
'There is a person sitting behind me whose safety, whose security, and whose life is at stake.' .....
'There is a person sitting behind me who is being told he is getting a special bespoke process when he knows and has experienced a process that is manifestly inferior in every respect,' she told the High Court.
'His presence here and throughout this appeal is a potent illustration, were one needed, of how much this appeal means to him and his family.' "

Now I am not a barrister - but surely this appeal is to be judged on the facts of the case , procedural questions etc.

If I were a betting woman faced with double or twist

  1. Did Ms Fatima KC come up with this herself or
  2. Did Harry suggest it before or on one of the bits of blue post it notes handed forward.
I'm going 2.

It was noticeable to me Sir James Eadie KC for the Govt on behalf of Ravec at no point said "My Lord , Ravec doesn't give a shit about Harry's safety and security and they are quite happy to risk his life. We care not a jot for him or his family" 😂

Gordon Bennet. I hope we find out sooner rather than later - Easter isn't that far away.

I agree. If he was granted the same level of protection as his father and brother ( which won’t happen), I wonder what excuse M would use then not to visit the UK and his family. She just doesn’t want under any circumstances to do that .

@Lazycatsitsonthemat It wouldn't surprise me at all if in 12 years, when he's 18, Archie decides to visit the UK and get to know his father's family. Nothing his parents could do about it. I mean, he's bound to be curious about them!

Oh goody. Harry brought rent a crowd with him 🙄😂

Well if he can’t have Netflix..

His grandfather will be dead by then and his cousins adults. He’ll find the whole RF very strange and difficult to integrate into. He’ll just be an American with famous parents.

The Guardian on H’s brief’s bizarre closing speech (of no legal consequence whatsoever in a JR appeal, as pp said).

@Lazycatsitsonthemat Probably, I just mean that it wouldn’t surprise me if there’s a rapprochement between the younger generations in the future. They have no beef with each other. All this legal wrangling might seem ridiculous to them, iyswim.

I don't see that happening at all. They just won't know each other and they will have nothing whatsoever in common. The other grandchildren will have grown up together and have a relationship with each other and will be perfectly fine without needing to embrace a long-lost cousin. It will be simply too late.

EsmaCannonball · 10/04/2025 00:07

I am finding it rather hilarious that the most pressing danger to Harry and Meghan is not the Taliban or neo-Nazis but their own Annie Wilkes-esque superfans whose obsessions and hatreds they have actively stoked when they needed to take an enemy down. I guess if you are building your little empire on the backs of the unhinged you always have to have an eye out for the moment one of them flips.

BasiliskStare · 10/04/2025 00:08

@TheAutumnCrow - I am not a barrister but I could not help feeling that closing statement was as you say bizarre and as above - WTAF did it contribute to an already lengthy processs turning on quite small matters. As I said in the post above Ravec aren't gleefully putting something forward in the hope Harry and his family are going to come a cropper. (Thank you for the link btw)

@wigsonthegreenandhatsforthelifting I suppose I’m comparing my family to theirs. I’m the one who emigrated, nasty family estrangements in previous generations-but I’m getting to know my cousins now and my American children get on well with theirs! We just ignore the previous strife, it’s not relevant to us.

I’m a pleb though, no Royal connections. 😂

I'm really glad it's worked out for you. Suspect it's unusual though.

We grew up only close to one set of cousins, my mother's sister's children. The relationship sadly petered out after my mum died. We stopped being included in family events for instance that we would have been when my parents were alive, that kind of thing. My aunt is still alive in her early 90s and one of my cousins in the last few years arranges for us to see her twice a year at her house. My aunt lives in sheltered accommodation which apparently is small and she is not open to visitors. I know if it was the other way round my mum would have kept her nephews/nieces close, and it should have been really because mum was 10 years younger. My aunt just didn't. C'est la vie.

On my dad's side some cousins are just FB friends and we see them at funerals.

BruFord · 10/04/2025 01:19

@wigsonthegreenandhatsforthelifting The trick is to bypass the estranged parents. We have a WhatsApp group now and make our own arrangements. 😉 Once we’d met up, we realized that we had no problem with each other.

We didn't have estranged parents. Just disengaged/ couldn't be bothered relatives x

He had it all and chose to give it away and not stay as a working royal

Suck it up buttercup!

How I wish that was the concluding argument of Sir James Eadie, KC!

smilesy · 10/04/2025 07:36

Yes I have to say I saw that Harry’s “life was at stake” and I thought, “it’s what now?” Hyperbole at its finest 🙄. Again I fail to see why his receiving security in a country he now rarely visits is so critical. His nose is clearly out of joint because he is not as important as his brother. Waaagh!

Harry’s paranoia is off the scale. If he quietly came and went from the UK without making a big fanfare about it, no one would be any the wiser.

I think it’s a need for attention. He wants to cause trouble for his father and brother. ‘Look at me! Look at me! See what I can do! You can’t ignore ME!! ‘ . He’s also massively paranoid. He just looks so unhappy all the time these days.

DelectableMe · 10/04/2025 07:54

You're right, @Lazycatsitsonthemat . It is very attention seeking. He wants to be in the headlines, seeks to be controversial, tries to undermine and criticise his family at every turn.
This is not the behaviour of a happy person.

Mylovelygreendress · 10/04/2025 08:05

If his appeal is refused does that mean Harry won’t visit again ? His Pa’s funeral ? William’s coronation ( assuming he is invited )?
I know Meghan won’t as there is no way she will curtsy to Catherine !

We can only hope. Unfortunately, I think he will turn up - private jet, limousine, top security, just so that he can sit in the Abbey and bitch about his treatment to some unfortunate cousin.

I do think "the press" have cottoned on a bit more to the SS. I do think it is justifiable journalism to delve into this given H&M's high profile comments about online bullying etc.

edit to tidy up - same meaning

A tenner says that the presss are already fully aware of much that we aren't, BasiliskStare, but that it's not thought to be the right time to blow it open

It wouldn't be the first time ...

No I think he will come. Neither of them seem to have a problem with making a big song and dance about an issue and then doing exactly the opposite of what they said they would do (no we are not making a documentary, I’m not going to be an influencer again, we should all travel sustainably, the RF are racist and so on). I think it is right that he should come for his father’s funeral. Agree he may have no invite for a coronation

eta given that he has already been here even though his “life is at stake” 🙄

Interesting, too, that even these professionals haven't been able to say what's wrong with a bespoke arrangement; they've claimed it's "inferior" but - at least in the open court bits - not said why

Please, someone, make it make sense Confused

Theunamedcat · 10/04/2025 08:43

It's all about a sausage at the end of the day

Harry has never been told no and it shows

The ignorance online is astonishing they are all blaming the royal family for the government's decision 🙄 "king Charles ur killin ur sun" google is still free right?
