Harry RAVEC decision appeal

I thought I would start a separate thread to discuss the court case which started today. I for one am still baffled as to why Harry thinks that his treatment has been unreasonable, given that he no longer lives in the UK, but is still given security on a case by case basis when he visits. This seems perfectly reasonable to me 🤷‍♀️

No thanks we don’t want them back

Well, he's threatening to deport US citizens. He can deport the Sussexes to the UK to make Charles happy.

Edited typos.

Edited

We'd have to accept them back here though. Perhaps they could live in the airport like other stateless persons?

M has played a blinder getting A and L to be habitually resident in US. Harry is stuck there now. Presumably H would need M's permission even to visit the UK with A and L.

Indeed. Someone posted that Harry had said in today's proceedings that 'Britain is my home'. Mate, that ship has sailed.

Now that would actually give them something to moan about!

I do think William will invite Mr and Mrs Markle to the coronation. Meghan definitely won’t go though.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 09/04/2025 19:18

Then that's genuinely my mistake, @wordler - I knew Lilibet was entitled to British citizenship of course, but thought it had to be "activated" IYSWIM

As said though, let's hope it doesn't come to a row of that sort

Imagine the Netflix series or podcast that would come out of it, though. The joys of accepting the airport lounge and living in the now. Putting airport snacks in new cellophane bags with beautifully written labels. Branded As Ever luggage tags and neck pillows. The possibilities are endless.

Cynic17 · 08/04/2025 13:03

Exactly. The entire Sussex family would be facilitated if/when this happens.

King Charles offers him to stay at a royal residence where there is already security every time he comes to the UK. He refuses as he prefers to stay in a hotel. This costing taxpayer's more money.

Agree with this. I'm genuinely not sure what will happen with the kids going or not, though.

BemusedAmerican · 09/04/2025 19:21

Embracing the new minimalism. Hugging new arrivals even if you don't know them.

Plagiarising the airport speech from Love Actually. We're into a second series already.

He will certainly be in the cheap seats behind a pillar though.

TBH I don't think that William will want a big coronation as he doesn't seem that keen on ceremonial pomp. I imagine he would prefer the Danish way where they come out on the balcony and the crown is plonked on his head

"He wanted the appeal to be heard by the end of July, in part due to fears that the ruling will influence the approach other countries take to his security."

Do you happen to know what the significance of July is, @Vespanest?

I'd have thought other countries' approach would be an ongoing thing, so wondered why this month specifically?

If we don't yet know now why July, I reckon we'll find out in due course. In much the same way that the whispers now are that the reason Harry has received so many awards since he got to the USA is because he's actually on an O-1 visa:

To qualify for an O-1 visa, you must demonstrate "extraordinary ability" in your field [no sniggering at the back!], often through sustained national or international acclaim, and be coming temporarily to the US to continue work in that area. This requires providing evidence of your achievements.

Examples of Evidence:
Awards and recognition
Publications in reputable journals or media
Performances in high-profile events
Membership in prestigious organizations
High salary or compensation
Original contributions to your field
Evidence of commercial or critical success

(This is an extract for the Google AI overview, the rules are very long).

I wouldn't be surprised if July is something to do with this, or something else as critical yet boring as immigration status.

An O-1 visa?
That would be hilarious 🤣🤣
He’d never live that one down if it got into the public domain. I wonder if that was the reason for the redactions.

”To release his exact status could subject him to reasonably foreseeable harm in the form of harassment as well as unwanted contact by the media and others."

SoNotaRealHousewife · 09/04/2025 19:36

Right which one of you had an outburst in the courtroom??

BemusedAmerican · 09/04/2025 19:40

So what happens if it turns out that those awards were given in a sort of tit for tat?

They say Rwanda is nice - and it's in H's beloved Africa.

BemusedAmerican · 09/04/2025 19:43

I'd restart my Netflix subscription for a real - life series in the airport.

Right, so was he at risk?...
No. Turns out 2 burly security men protected him from the mad fan.
Funny that!

BemusedAmerican · 09/04/2025 19:45

She sounded more likely to attack the press. It's a shame Tom Bower wasn't there.

Didn't Melania come to the US on an 0-1 visa?

wordler · 09/04/2025 20:01

I think it's unlikely that he was on an O visa because of the way they entered the country as a last minute decision during Covid lockdowns.

It's much more likely that they entered with Harry on a regular tourist/ESTA entry and then they adjusted his status once in the USA to a spousal greencard.

HonoriaBulstrode · 09/04/2025 20:05

I think W should cut H out of the LOS when he takes over.

That would require Parliament to legislate. And also the Parliaments in all the other countries where the King is HoS.

There would have to be a horrendous tragedy for H's place in the LoS to become an issue, so why stir things up? I think it's better to do nothing and just let them slide further into irrelevance.

You also have to pass through airport style security to enter the Royal Courts of Justice, so it’s unlikely anyone in the courtroom had any weapon to hand.
