Harry RAVEC decision appeal

I thought I would start a separate thread to discuss the court case which started today. I for one am still baffled as to why Harry thinks that his treatment has been unreasonable, given that he no longer lives in the UK, but is still given security on a case by case basis when he visits. This seems perfectly reasonable to me 🤷‍♀️

Will the outcome be delivered today or a couple months time?

Treeleaf11 · 09/04/2025 16:48

Harry's the DCs' parent too, and if he'd brought them with him what would there be to stop him keeping them here?

The Hague Convention?

They said not before Easter.

This was never just about UK security whilst in the UK, he gave that away when he wanted to jump the queue. If he could win the argument that his security should not have changed it leads to the argument that includes whilst living abroad.
"He wanted the appeal to be heard by the end of July, in part due to fears that the ruling will influence the approach other countries take to his security."

I don't think 'other countries' will be influenced by a decision by a domestic body like RAVEC.

And listen to him telling the courts when he 'wants' the appeal to be held, as if there isn't a big backlog of cases, and as if the vanity case of the exiled 5th in line were a high priority! He really doesn't get that his 'wants' are of no concern to anyone but himself, does he?

While the Secretary’s case was made, Prince Harry at one stage appeared to throw his pen down in exasperation and pull a face expressing disbelief.

Pengate, from what I've read. Like father, like son, I guess.

Was he being a 'petulant twat'? @Mightymoog - your speciality, I think.

Lazycatsitsonthemat · 09/04/2025 17:02

Is the case over now?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 09/04/2025 16:35

But isn't that exactly the danger from Meghan's POV?

There's the question of whether many would want to associate with him - though that applies to the US now too - but what if he came to feel that living somewhere fully paid for, in a place he knows, and surrounded once again by staff who'd never say no was the better choice?

Harry's the DCs' parent too, and if he'd brought them with him what would there be to stop him keeping them here?

Personally I think she's achieved enough notoriety/fame/recognition to not need him any more. Putting aside the recent Sentebale debacle (and, really, more the fact he's been exposed as an ugly toff with ugly opinions on women and race following that Alex fellow's interview with the DM), I don't know how much more he can bring her. She's bored with Invictus, left Whistler early after making a couple of insincere but high profile appearances. Always thought she found it a drag anyway. That's really all he has now, unless he's quietly opening doors for her. If he is, we're not seeing much evidence of that. I think she has enough to be able to progress further down the path she seems to be choosing.

There is, of course, the small matter of their marriage and their children. I'm biased by personal experience, I've only known one friend the product of divorce who has managed to maintain a stable marriage herself, and that without any of the pressures Harry and Meghan. But I wish them well, they have young children.

BemusedAmerican · 09/04/2025 17:11

I can't see Trump agreeing to IPP for H & M.

BruFord · 09/04/2025 17:12

@HiRen I agree that he’s served his purpose. If she loves him, they’ll be ok, but if she only wanted him to achieve fame/recognition, that’s been done.

I hope it’s a loving relationship that lasts, but who knows.

I suspect only one thing is keeping them together now. Money. They can’t afford to run two separate households with two separate sets of security. He can’t go back to the UK because he won’t be near his kids so needs to stay in the US with his own security.

That might work with Lilibet, who as far as we know may only have US citizenship, but perhaps less well with Archie

Besides, while I hope it doesn't come to this, can you imagine Meghan going up against the RF if Harry wished to keep the children here and they backed him?
God knows what might come out, and endless claims of victimhood will only carry someone so far

Good luck with him getting the great orange Wotsit in the White House to approve any security over there, even if Harry won and was carried from Court on the shoulders of the Squad.

Do you happen to know what the significance of July is, @Vespanest?

I'd have thought other countries' approach would be an ongoing thing, so wondered why this month specifically?

TizerorFizz · 09/04/2025 17:32

@pilates A few weeks. They won’t say anything today.

Is that why you think she left early? I never thought of that but it makes sense.

Popping in to say....I just hope they've got the balls to do it if the decision goes against him!

(I think it's not so much wanting the security as wanting to be swept around London in a fleet of blacked-out security vehicles, with minions jumping out to open doors and relay messages via earpieces, it's wanting to be seen to be as important asW&K )

Sums it up perfectly.

Is there a way William could prevent the Sussexes attending?

I suspect gloves will come off though once William is king. I wouldn’t forgive Harry for what he’s said and done if I was William.

William couldn't prevent H & M coming to KC’s funeral and all ensuing nonsense surrounding them and their children but I bet your bottom dollar they won’t be at his coronation. I think W should cut H out of the LOS when he takes over. Might put all this entitled behaviour to bed.

Both kids are automatically duel citizens based on their parents nationality - the only difference is that Lili can’t pass on her British citizenship to her own kids because she was not born in the UK.

By now though they would be considered habitually resident in the US so Harry would not be able to simply bring them over and have them stay without Meghan’s permission.

It would be terrible optics if Harry tried to use his Royal status to ‘kidnap’ his own kids and both the law and public opinion would not be on his side.

I can't see Trump agreeing to IPP for H & M.

No, and as I said earlier, even if some court decision stated or implied that he should pay for their protection (I have noted posts from more legally informed posters that said this can't happen anyway) I can't imagine him agreeing to. He's ripping up the rule book at the moment so why would he comply with that? And I can't see Starmer making the Sussexes' security arrangements an issue in any negotiations that ensue. No doubt Harry thinks it's far more important than, for example, saving the British steel industry, but he's in for yet another rude awakening on that score.

Treeleaf11 · 09/04/2025 18:25

M has played a blinder getting A and L to be habitually resident in US. Harry is stuck there now. Presumably H would need M's permission even to visit the UK with A and L.

Buffs · 09/04/2025 18:30

As a taxpayer I strongly object to paying a penny towards the upkeep of this spoilt, entitled, petulant plonker.
