Harry RAVEC decision appeal

I thought I would start a separate thread to discuss the court case which started today. I for one am still baffled as to why Harry thinks that his treatment has been unreasonable, given that he no longer lives in the UK, but is still given security on a case by case basis when he visits. This seems perfectly reasonable to me 🤷‍♀️

I can't see the stream so I think so?

Vespanest · 09/04/2025 15:39

This was never just about UK security whilst in the UK, he gave that away when he wanted to jump the queue. If he could win the argument that his security should not have changed it leads to the argument that includes whilst living abroad.
"He wanted the appeal to be heard by the end of July, in part due to fears that the ruling will influence the approach other countries take to his security."

@twinklystar23 It’s the Home Office costs that are over £1/2 million. If they win and are awarded costs, Harry has to pay their bill. So the taxpayer bill might be £0. I hope so!

Theredfoxfliesatmidnight · 09/04/2025 15:50

It looks like the non- public part is running over time - does anyone know if the case will extend to three days if it cannot finish today? And will there definitely be an "on camera" part to conclude or might it just be finished now?

Totally agree. I very much hope this farrago won't cost the taxpayer a penny

anything of interest happened today?

While the Secretary’s case was made, Prince Harry at one stage appeared to throw his pen down in exasperation and pull a face expressing disbelief.

Pengate, from what I've read. Like father, like son, I guess.

Well, we're paying his security bill for this little vanity jaunt.

I’m actually starting to feel a bit bad for Harry. He clearly thinks he’s much smarter than he is, and it’s going to cost him dearly.

I feel bad for the kids too.

I feel bad for him too, at the same time as feeling he doesn't get blamed enough for the mess he has allowed to happen. He is standing in public as elements of his life are stripped from him one by one. Poor children, who did not ask for any of this.

Well , yes very true. In a wider context (I should have myself clearer ) I hope he picks up the legal bill But you are right to point that out. 😁

Sorry, no, I do understand and agree with your point! I was just being a bit glib!

It's started

Going for the poor scared Harry angle. His lawyer says him being in court shows how much it means to him . I would have thought being able to say he wanted to be here but is too scared to come to the UK would have been better. He could have dialled in on Zoom.

Indeed! Surely a very dangerous ploy!

But even if if you sympathise with them, his fear isn't legally relevant.

Not2identifying · 09/04/2025 16:31

I think even if Harry is ordered to pay the Gov's cost, he probably won't cover 100%. Plus the tax payer is also paying for the court, the judge, etc.

TizerorFizz · 09/04/2025 16:34

It was never the case he would not get security at all but he disagreed with the way they came to that decision. It will be interesting to see what the judges decide (2 out of 3 needed) and we won’t know for a few weeks.

It all makes me think that he must feel his life in California is a temporary state of affairs, that one day he'll come back "home" for at least part of each year, and that he'll connect his children with his roots (their so-called birthright). He still wants the life he envisioned just before he took his freedom flight: half here, half there. Meghan has moved on, and she's already home. I think she's dumped the UK, having extracted what she could from it, and I don't think she'll want to come back at all given there's nothing left for her to gain. You have to wonder how that would work for a family.

But isn't that exactly the danger from Meghan's POV?

There's the question of whether many would want to associate with him - though that applies to the US now too - but what if he came to feel that living somewhere fully paid for, in a place he knows, and surrounded once again by staff who'd never say no was the better choice?

Harry's the DCs' parent too, and if he'd brought them with him what would there be to stop him keeping them here?

Lifestooshort71 · 09/04/2025 16:37

Popping in to say....I just hope they've got the balls to do it if the decision goes against him!

(I think it's not so much wanting the security as wanting to be swept around London in a fleet of blacked-out security vehicles, with minions jumping out to open doors and relay messages via earpieces, it's wanting to be seen to be as important asW&K )

BasiliskStare · 09/04/2025 16:41

Oh FFS - I liked Harry's KC but I thought that end bit was a bit too trying to tug on the heartstrings. This is the Court of Appeal - she's not Alan Shore in Boston Legal.

Profhilodisaster · 09/04/2025 16:41

One of the judges is Lord Justice Bean , he was part of Meghan's case against the publication of her letter.

TheAutumnCrow · 09/04/2025 16:45

Meghan's a winner whether he stays in California or leaves. In fact if H leaves, M will ride on a huge wave of public sympathy for a long time.

But it'll be H who gets the sympathy if she boots him out. It's invariably how these things play out. And people get bored with it all very quickly.

It's a very bizarre strategy that H is employing, IMO. The Sussex Squaddie intervention was unhinged nonsense, whether he knew about it or not. He should have nipped that crap in the bud a long time ago. Now it's all 'out there' he is persona non grata to his friends as well as family. So much unedifying, reality-show type drama hangs around his neck, the albatross of the fallen royal.
