Harry RAVEC decision appeal

I thought I would start a separate thread to discuss the court case which started today. I for one am still baffled as to why Harry thinks that his treatment has been unreasonable, given that he no longer lives in the UK, but is still given security on a case by case basis when he visits. This seems perfectly reasonable to me 🤷‍♀️

The court is reconvening at 3.15pm, after the in camera session. Based on what's happened so far, my summary is:

  • the appellant's case : we've picked through every piece of documentation we can lay our hands on and combed through it to find every possible redefinition or interpretation that shows he was disadvantaged by Ravec adopting a bespoke process and not using a process used for everyone else
  • the Government's case : the collective experience of those considering the appellant's situation was equal to that of those considering the cases of other royals and VIPs and was used to make a decision based on the appellant's unique circumstances and which passes legal tests

Conclusion: even if the judge rules he was disadvantaged and Ravec has to reconsider his case, in all probability they will decide on the same level of protection as he currently has. Own goal, Haz!

It really does come across that the KC for the Home Office is patiently trying to explain something to a three year old 😂

I think this is a great point-and I think with a different wife/staying in the UK he might have thrown himself into the whole cousin thing.

Gone to Zara's horsey things and mucked around with everyone. His DC being brought up with loads of cousins having a ball. He could have just gotten on with it and not made a whole drama of it-he used to be so happy go lucky and play pranks and be high spirited and he could just have a fab life in the country with wife and kids playing polo and hanging out with his friends.

He didn't always take himself so seriously-although I think he was always a bit of a brat because everyone felt sorry he lost his mum no one ever said no.

And now we have a man who is unable to accept being told no.

My children are part of a huge cousin gang of about 45 cousins and though they all have their own friendship groups what they get out of being part of a huge cousin gang is immeasurable.

My grandchildren also have their own cousin gang but there’s only 8 of them in it, they still have great times together though. Then there’s one set of my grandchildren who have a cousin gang of about 50 on their dad’s side. Theyre very important to each other and also have good times together.

Cousin gangs are lovely.

I’m still at a loss as to what Harry thinks he is going to gain from all this anyway. He wants his security “status” back, but what for? If he came back to the UK, it would presumably be to visit family so he would perfectly safe in their households. If he gives 10 days notice, he can have security anyway in all probability. Is he planning on going to tourist areas with his wife and children? Unlikely. So what does he need this security for 🤷‍♀️

Oh we all know what he wants it for. He wants to do all the things William and Catherine do: travel between a home in London and a second home somewhere, visit friends and family, swan about making guest appearances at charitable organisations handpicked to make him look good, go out to dinner, clubs, pop concerts etc. In addition, he wants to continue publicising his wife, ensuring she arrives at TV and radio and movie studios with security, ensures that when she goes shopping she has security in tow etc. All those things, with a motorcade. He wants what he had before, but more because William has more now too.

Cousin gangs are the absolute best: none of the love-hate messiness of siblings, more warmth and inclusion than friends (because parents are also involved, family safety is assumed, and the coming together often happens on high days and holidays). It's a really special relationship and I treasure mine and my children's. They're irreplaceable.

Yes. If he still lived here I would understand that that was what he wants. But he doesn’t. And he is only arguing for security in this country as things stand

Does anyone have a link to the current live stream - or have they finished

I was dealing with a painter coming to paint the sitting room with many questions , a dog who hates the painter because he has scary bags & phone calls about a meeting I am going to this evening . Somewhere between those I dropped the ball 😂 (Oh and the coffee machine has broken )

Edited spelling

HiRen · 09/04/2025 14:41

It all makes me think that he must feel his life in California is a temporary state of affairs, that one day he'll come back "home" for at least part of each year, and that he'll connect his children with his roots (their so-called birthright). He still wants the life he envisioned just before he took his freedom flight: half here, half there. Meghan has moved on, and she's already home. I think she's dumped the UK, having extracted what she could from it, and I don't think she'll want to come back at all given there's nothing left for her to gain. You have to wonder how that would work for a family.

DelectableMe · 09/04/2025 14:43

Yes, he clearly stated "Britain is my home" as part of his case.

Reconvening at 3.15pm.

I don't know what Harry had left in this country though, I can't see a reconciliation with William, maybe Charles would like to see him, would anyone from the rest of the family be bothered? If he does want to come back, him not taking up Charles' offer of staying in one of his houses seems counterproductive.

My first thought was the woman in the courthouse was a member of the SS. Looks like the DM readers think that she was a paid plant😁

Here's an idea. Harry deliberately included the fact that he had killed 25 Taliban in 'Spare' so that he would retain Head of State level security protection. This is a stupid idea, isn't it? Harry is too dim to think of something like that.

BasiliskStare · 09/04/2025 14:48

Thank you @IdaGlossop .

It is a stupid idea so definitely something Harry would have considered 🤣 . Risk your life so that you can get protection so that your life isn't at risk !

There is a pleasing circularity about it which you have expressed with admirable succinctness, @Profhilodisaster

As an expat, I can tell you that there's much more to "home" than just your siblings and parents. There are loads of us on here, but it really is the most simple things: the weather (believe it or not), pubs, cockney accents, the sense of humour, the beautiful countryside, London itself, the food, the irreverence, your friends - and also your memories. It can go quite deep and be a true yearning (and I'm not a prince of the realm, raised practically in Buckingham Palace, member of the armed forces and an ex-representative of the nation! Those are real and tangible connections to a country). I don't blame him for these sentiments at all. I do blame him for everything else though.

CrazyOldMe · 09/04/2025 15:06

I’m actually starting to feel a bit bad for Harry. He clearly thinks he’s much smarter than he is, and it’s going to cost him dearly.

I feel bad for the kids too.

twinklystar23 · 09/04/2025 15:18

This case really sticks in my craw. That as a taxpayer having to pay for this entitled, wealthy individual. Whilst I have a sense of justice that anyone should be entitled to challenge the government, as it should in a democracy the majority of people would not be able to risk such a challenge, financially. I see in my work people who imo who have suffered terribly by our own institutions who cant even afford the first step to getting justice. Yet we get to pay for PH

BasiliskStare · 09/04/2025 15:19

Just very quickly before the blackout lifts - & BTW I suspect that was much more for them to discuss Ravec's process rather than Harry's confidentiality

a very anecdotal thing.

When I was young I used to watch Crown Court on BBC2 with my Granny. (anyone old enough to remember that? ) I quite fancied being a barrister. The older I got I realised it wasn't for me. Knowing some barristers and from DS's job , now the sheer volume of "bundle 28 - para 198 tp 225 etc" I realise it truly wasn't for me. I may have blurted out at some volume in this case before now "will no-one just use some common sense." At which point I would have been politely invited to kindly leave the courtroom - and rightly so 😂

edited for clarity

Profhilodisaster · 09/04/2025 15:23

@BasiliskStare I loved Crown Court!
I think we could maybe have set up our own law firm, it could have been called Briefs ! Listening to the barristers talk for literally hours was making me so anxious, I could have said what they said in 2 minutes!
