I also remember them saying they were heavily advised by the palace not to sue over the letter because it wouldn’t be worth their while and “we don’t sue”. A whole NF episode was then dedicated to them moaning about how hard the trial was and how much they had to hand over.

I mean it’s almost like their professional advisers were right

They must have been SO difficult to work with, always knowing better than those around them trying to protect them

APATEKPHILLIPEWATCH · 07/04/2025 12:21

Also it’s interesting Harry semi got has a knack for asking other people to do puff pieces about Meghan. I’m pretty sure that was central the the Mail case - her friends happened to approach People magazine (a pro H&M mag as we now know) to write a gushing article about her, and this referenced the letter. It was said Meghan was behind the article being written and she denied this - she just has lovely friends, apparently. My bullshit-o-meter is off the charts right now

Puzzledandpissedoff · 07/04/2025 12:31

There are so many occasions when she was in the RF when she had smirking or inappropriate looks on her face at sombre events

This is true, @glitterturd, but if those of us who believe Meghan's stay in the UK was always intended to be temporary are correct, there may have been no point in even pretending to try

Plus, of course, any criticism her behaviour earned could all be added to the "Everyone's hateful and it's destroying me" pile

Lunde · 07/04/2025 12:53

Conundrumseverywhere · 07/04/2025 11:58

I always remember seeing her greeting some important people whilst still in the RF and her conversation was all about herself and her pregnancy. The man she was speaking to wasn’t really interested but she ploughed on anyway.

I remember some very odd moments on the Morocco tour where Meghan breached protocol and barged ahead of Harry to grab the hand of the King to shake - and blanked the Crown Prince on departure (like he was a flunky) and cringingly had to turn back to say official farewells.

And how many of her 5 besties does she still see regularly?

Off topic muse but my DM was a massive fan of Frank Sinatra and I was very much exposed to his oeuvre from an early age 😂. In a well known film ("On the Town" ) he has to dance with Gene Kelly.

It was only as an adult rewatching I noticed that during this, his eyes are constantly referring to what Gene K is doing with his feet. Sinatra was a great singer and a very creditable actor, but it seems he had the sense to recognise when there was someone in the room who knew far, far more than him about certain things.

This is sort of an inverse of M&H and any poor devil who has ever tried to advise them, I think.

Can you imagine that 5 of her besties got together unknown to her to unilaterally and single handedly turn around her PR.

They know she is a liar.

Dinglydelll · 07/04/2025 13:57

Do we know who they were?

No. Meghan took the Mail to court to conceal the names which a judge allowed. I wonder why she doesn’t want them named.

Conundrumseverywhere · 07/04/2025 14:16

Maybe they don’t exist and it was just her all along.

Butteredtoast55 · 07/04/2025 14:23

I think the Queen knew that their refusal to take advice, be guided on protocol and be properly briefed or mentored would result in them becoming unstuck but perhaps thought they'd fairly quickly realise it and accept help. I think Her Maj was very astute but hadn't reckoned on the absolute self belief and depths of denial and self pity that meant they flounced off instead.
I went from thinking they were a good thing to wishing them luck, to thinking they needed to stop bleating to being appalled at their lies and now I just think they're burying their own reputations and careers deeper by the day.

NewAgeNewMe · 07/04/2025 14:32

They don’t see their immense privilege. I’m not sure the other royals do either, we know Andrew doesn’t appear to, but at least most of them don’t bleat how hard done by they are.

And most of them just do what they're asked to do constitutionally - no more and no less. They don't foist their amazing personalities on us or try to dominate proceedings. I can see how someone who has a Disney view of monarchy would be mightily disappointed with the low-key, rather bumbling manner of say, KC and Camilla or Sophie and Edward - or Princess Anne's business-like approach.

I think Meghan was a bit like this - she misunderstood the nature of British monarchy. Her adoring fans on Celebitchy hold that she did it better than any of the actual royals, but that's because they don't understand what it's about in the UK. It's not Monaco. With one of two exceptions UK royals are not noted for their glamour or charisma and that's not a problem, constitutionally. The ones who have possessed these qualities have been problematic/controversial in their royal capacity (Edward VII, Margaret, Diana to some extent).

NewAgeNewMe · 07/04/2025 17:06

Agreed.

BasiliskStare · 07/04/2025 17:19

@CoffeeCantata I agree - it's not all banquets and balconies. I don't care if the WRF are a bit boring - as long as they keep to the job & don't make it about themselves.

APATEKPHILLIPEWATCH · 07/04/2025 12:16

I’ve just seen a tweet saying that when M&H sued the Daily Mail over the letter to Thomas, remember the court wanted a disclosure (which ultimately uncovered Megan’s porkie pies about not contributing to Finding Freedom)? She pointed out in her Netflix doc that one of the disclosure terms was “Africa”.

Isnt that interesting!!

Yep. And that's the (I think!) "He's your brother" thing in the Netflix doc.
Jason Knauf had the emails re FF so knew she was lying in court. He was duty bound to alert the court to the perjury but presumably ran it past William first.
So basically she was pissed off that people pointed out she was breaking the law.

Weepixie · 07/04/2025 18:44

@tattychicken what was FF please?

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 07/04/2025 18:46

@Weepixie I'm not the pp but I think it means Finding Freedom the work of fiction book they had *cough nothing to do with.

I'm sure I remember someone on M's side of the congregation saying they were surprised to be there because they'd barely ever met, possibly the Clooney's? So based on that my guess would be not many.

BasiliskStare · 07/04/2025 18:59

Well all other suing aside the Ravec case is the one I am interested in (and sorry this is a derail so I can start another thread if people would prefer ) . This is IMHO H just not understanding how things work and expecting taxpayers to pick up the bill. I hope (not because I am a hater but because I think he has dragged this out unnecessarily ) , if it is thrown out again he picks up all the costs.

Serenster · 07/04/2025 19:07

If anyone is at a loose end tomorrow the Court of Appeal’s hearing of Prince Harry’s appeal will be live-streamed (at least in part, after they deal with some confidential matters). The link is on the page below!

Yes - I think it was George Clooney who revealed that he'd never met them before but thought it would be cool to be able to say that he'd been at a royal wedding.

I'm pretty sure it was reported that Reese Witherspoon declined her invitation as she didn't know who Meghan was,

Yeah . I think Meghan was expecting the Disney/Hallmark Christmas movie version of marrying into the royal family where it would be all tiaras and ball gowns ... and attending glamorous events like royal balls, film premieres, charity galas etc.

I think she also thought that she could do as Harry had done in younger days and be patron of a few charities in stuff that interested her, where you only have to turn up for the press photo and just do a few days here and there. While I think the RF thought that they would either be grown up working royals or they could be more like Zara/Mike or the York Princesses and do their own thing and just turn up for family/state events.

I think she couldn't stand the fact that a lot of stuff the royals do is quite dull and requires homework and prep where the royal is expected to know something about the project they are visiting and not just a hi & bye for the photo op. I remember there was a cringe moment at a reception at BP (disabled veterans? paralympians) and a woman in a wheelchair was trying to tell her something and she just walked off when the woman was mid-sentence. The woman looked really taken aback.
