Well said, Piggly.

it's a personal vanity project.

It's very well regarded locally - many young people in the area have been given a great start in crafts and trades, farming and agricultural careers through Dumfries House. Also employs many locals in hospitality and events. All kinds of educational and training courses too.

When you talk sneeringly about 'vanity project' do you mean someone is doing something they deem worthwhile and have an interest in?

ETA* *APlateOfMixedFanciesAndANicePotOfTea put it far more eloquently!

The King's Foundation is an educational charity

Mightymoog · 07/04/2025 14:13

Charles' business has profits going to the kings foundation which pays for Dumfres house.
a complete vanity project so not really charity at all.
Sponging git

The king rescued the estate when it was about to be broken up, saving jobs and the tenants who would have been turned off their land. He has been restoring it back to fully working status. It is huge employer in that area

People who know nothing about anything often forget that big estates are major employers in some rural areas and the death of an estate can often lead to the hollowing out of surrounding villages.

Hardly ‘sponging’. He save the homes and livelihoods of an entire area. It’s part of his responsibility to the country.

MissRoseDurward · 07/04/2025 17:14

The king rescued the estate when it was about to be broken up

Weren't the contents of the house already loaded on vans and heading for the salerooms when he managed to put together a last minute rescue?

People who know nothing about anything often forget that big estates are major employers in some rural areas and the death of an estate can often lead to the hollowing out of surrounding villages.

One of the sad consequences of two world wars and high taxation and death duties has been the loss of so many country houses. Not just great estates but modest manor houses, many of which had been occupied by the same families for generations, and sometimes employing the same local families for generations. And the consequent loss of employment and skills in the surrounding area.

A posh wedding venue is no substitute - and so many of these houses don't survive even to be turned into wedding venues.

Bontonbonbon · 07/04/2025 17:22

Exactly @MissRoseDurward Killerton House in Devon is a great example of this. The liberal
peer who owned it thought he was following his principles and setting a good example by selling it off to a wealthy industrialist, who then sold it off piecemeal and turned out the tenant farmers. Hundreds of people lost their jobs.

Idealists often forget about working people and only like the poor when they are radical and ‘deserving’.

Reetpetitenot · 07/04/2025 13:42

No, which is why the profits go to charity.

Ouch! 😂😂

BunnyLake · 07/04/2025 18:50

Is it correct this spread has the seeds in it? I wouldn’t buy raspberry jam (or whatever) unless it’s unseeded. That would put me right off.

To answer, no I haven’t seen anyone mention seeds.

A YouTuber said it did so I googled it and searches seem to say it does. I personally never buy seeded jams.

Maybe someone who has bought it can confirm one way or the other.

That page doesn't exist FYI.

And the bio Meg4strawberry doesn't exactly scream unbiased.

But what do I know?

Better not risk it then.

She’s super biased of course. I’m waiting for RNNs review. They’ve promised to be fair.

Bontonbonbon · 07/04/2025 19:33

I think the jam (which is clearly seeded in that picture) is not the issue here. It’s $14 for a packet of shortbread mix! And that doesn’t include the most expensive part of shortbread- the butter!!

I personally wouldn’t buy any mix lol but others do 🤷🏽‍♀️

Some just have more disposable income than others.

tataler · 07/04/2025 19:40

Finding a honey post is hard work 🥲

Onlyonekenobe · 07/04/2025 19:41

It's all gone very quiet from MM since her launch. Can't be the Sentebale furore as that started before the launch, and I doubt she's busily harvesting honey. Her podcast should be starting tomorrow, doesn't seem to be advertising that. She's quite mercurial with her SM usage.

MissRoseDurward · 07/04/2025 19:43

So if you have to add the butter, what's the difference between making shortbread from a packet and making it with separate ingredients? It's easy enough!

Or just go to M&S or Highgrove and buy some genuine Scottish shortbread for less than the cost of the packet mix. (Might get some from M&S for Easter.)

tataler · 07/04/2025 19:43

Yeah, I was hoping for a post or insta story for the podcast.

tataler · 07/04/2025 19:46

More deliveries, I’m gonna cap at this till I find a honey post 🙏🏽

No one’s demonstrating the runny consistency of the coulis …or eating it. Just pics of jars and packaging…..
