Commissionable links- means when a potential customer clicks on the link, it's attributed to the affiliate, allowing the brand to record the source of the traffic. If someone buys a product using an affiliate link, the brand will pay the affiliate marketer commission on the sale

But she’s not an influencer?

This is really sad actually.

Every family member is either useful or not to her, and if not, expendable. I felt sorry for her when her dad set up those photos, but a distinct pattern has emerged now. The using of her children fits this pattern.

She is a cold, calculating person.

There's nothing wrong with trying to make a living but some things are worth more than money to most of us.

Not her.

drivinmecrazy · 24/03/2025 22:05

I’m sure that surely would have asked this question.

but how many of the Sussex squad are willing or able to put their money where there mouths are.

I guess only time will tell.

once in a blue moon o have that budget for a dress to wear to high brow event.

never ever have I taken to SM for inspiration.

so I wonder if she’s truly going to inspire and amaze people in this price bracket

It was all hot air, wasn't it?

Everything is hot air with that pair. Absolutely no substance to them at all. Empty vessels the pair of them.

That's a shame. It's a privacy thing. Both Beatrice and Eugenie with their new babies did the same.
I quite understand the practice and I find it quite sweet.

It's not "sweet" - it's daft, pretentious and ridiculous.

Extiainoiapeial · 24/03/2025 22:18

That's just my opinion. I don't have a problem with it at all.

CatsWhiskerz · 24/03/2025 22:21

God knows why, she looks like she's dressed in leftovers at the jumble sale, or the dress up box with mums old clothes in

My2cents1975 · 24/03/2025 22:30

M may be rich relative to the average person, but she certainly won't be billionaire rich, which is what she desperately wants. Billionaires own well run companies which have organized rollouts, low staff turnover and good industry reputations.

Aside from M's lack of business acumen, her reckless spending is likely to be problematic. Compare M's $75,000 engagement dress for the official photos to the under $1,000 mark for the previous generation of spare's wives (Fergie and Sophie). Even with inflation a budget of $2,000 would have been exceedingly generous.

As a data point, Johnny Depp made over $650 million on films that netted $3.6 billion, and yet, he alleged in a 2020 lawsuit that most of his money was gone and sued the management company which had enabled his reckless spending. Fortunes can be lost in Hollywood!

I think they've missed a trick not merching Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream.

Better than Viagra!

Conundrumseverywhere · 24/03/2025 22:51

I do wonder why M is so obsessed with being rich. She has so much already. I suppose it may have been watching her parents struggle , bankruptcy and scraping around to pay the bills.

Why is it any different to Zara Tindall's fashion range she models for Musto? Lots of padded jackets, some with the colour 'Windsor wine'

No idea why Meghan gets slated for this. But not Zara.

Zara doesn't have a title.
Zara has never carried out royal duties.
Zara hasn't trashed her family, or in laws, in public.
Zara has always shown respect to both QEII and KC3.

Most of all, both of the Tindalls have based their commercial activities on their proven success as international sportspeople (ie based on talent and hard work). Mike had a very highly regarded rugby career, playing for his country. Zara is an Olympic medallist and European champion.

Meghan..... none of the above apply. She trades entirely on being married to a Prince.

In Spare, H wrote: "Willy and Kate invited us over for tea. To clear the air. June 2018. We walked over one late afternoon. I saw Meg’s eyes widen as we entered their front door, walked past their front sitting room, down their hallway, into their study. 'Wow,' Meg said several times. The wallpaper, the crown molding, the walnut bookshelves lined with color-coordinated volumes, the priceless art. Gorgeous. Like a museum.

"And we both told them so. We complimented them lavishly on their renovation, though we also thought sheepishly of our IKEA lamps, our discount sofa recently bought on sale, with Meg’s credit card, from sofa.com."

Comparison is the thief of M's joy. The intense envy of W&C leaps off the pages of Spare. Her obsession is to be as rich as the RF that cast her out. Hence the scrabble for cash by all means and the unceasing social media attacks on the RF by her Sussex Squad proxies.

Serenster · 24/03/2025 23:11

I think many of us expected that we’d eventually end up here, didn’t we?

Anyway, good luck to Meghan who does need to build an income stream, and as ever is showing she’s adaptable and resourceful. I have never had too much of an issue with the non- working royals treading the awkward line between profiting from their royal adjacency - everyone needs to make money at the end of the day. If posters have previously sneered at Sarah Ferguson and Peter Phillips though (and plenty have..) then I can see this is a sensitive topic.

I do hope though that this means we hear less from Meghan about how she is primarily “dedicated to building a more compassionate, equitable world for future generations” and that “her core belief that representation matters and her connection to community have helped define her as a cultural catalyst for positive change”. Selling clothes online to your fans on commission is not changing the world for the better.

The thing is William and Kate lived simply for years before that point. In fact they had lived in the house he himself was living in. Once he was married he was offered a lovely house too. I doubt he has William’s taste with regards to furniture and art in any case.

AtIusvue · 24/03/2025 23:21

There’s certainly no rush to buy any of the items. Nothing sold out. Mostly, all sizes available.

If sizes were gone, the same item in another colour way which wasn’t linked, has the same sizes sold out too- so I suspect they were unavailable even before Meg posted

oh dear

The problem is, there’s nothing unique. It’s a blue shirt, white shirt, tan slides, tan handbag. Not only is it really boring, even if someone liked that style- they could easily just copy the look and buy a £30 blue shirt instead of spending £300. All while feeling they have achieve the meghan look.

Interesting that US websites don’t show you how many are looking at the item right now or how many have bought in the last hour or this item is trending etc- which you often see for popular items on British sites.

Yes, it's interesting to compare it to Princess Madeleine of Sweden who just today announced that she is setting up a skincare line in partnership with the Swiss company Waleda.

There was a message on the official Swedish royal family website, clarifying that Madeleine is receiving no public funding and that this business will be done entirely in a private capacity. She will be using the name 'Madeleine Bernadotte' for all business purposes.

Edited

Because no one would be interested in 'Madeleine Bernadotte' if she wasn't a Swedish princess

I absolutely agree with you that H saw W&C live simply.

As to H's tastes, the fact that he couldn't be bothered to do up his bachelor abode speaks volumes about his tastes as I suspect there is plenty of furniture and art in the various RF properties that H could have used.

But as for M, when she entered the scene W&C were at KP. All M saw was the destination (Kensington Palace) and not the journey (relatively simple place in Wales and Nott Cott). And M envied what C had.

Branster · 24/03/2025 23:38

Meh, what exactly is anyone going to do about the fact that she is not allowed to use her title for commercial gain?

If she became an ambassador for a reputable well known fashion house, would it be any different?
It's just a title, the woman needs to earn some money somehow one of these days. Let her be I say.

I find all affiliated links to be in bad taste but clearly it is a perfectly valid income stream.

QueenOfHertz · 24/03/2025 23:38

But they were offered a whopping “apartment” ie wing of Kensington Palace that the Gloucesters were preparing to move out of. That could have been just as splendid as Kate and Wills’ pad.

EsmaCannonball · 24/03/2025 23:50

Harry was a multi-millionaire living for free in a Christopher Wren cottage. If he had terrible furniture it was because he was too tight to spend any of his own money on it.

I remember reading a really good article on those celebrities who are forever posting images of their children on social media but who always hide their faces. (Think it was by Hadley Freeman or Marina Hyde or one of those types). It's annoying because the message these celebrities are sending out is simultaneously 'I am prepared to monetise what should be private family moments and to use my children for shameless self-promotion/OMG, you sick, nosy fucker! You should feel terribly guilty for looking at my precious children!' They are scolding the viewer when it should be themselves they are having a word with for plastering their offspring all over the internet.

MsBucket · 24/03/2025 23:51

@QueenOfHertz I had no idea. I thought they were offered Frogmore Cottage where they lived briefly and that Frogmore House was where the wedding reception took place?

They lived in Frogmore Cottage which they had refurbished at huge expense. Apparently they paid it back after they flounced? I don't know whether or not they did.
