I can't see that anyone 'owes' a person attendance at a funeral, and in any event the deceased will be dead and won't know who is or isn't present at his interment.

Isn’t it completely normal not to attend your ex-husband’s funeral?
I don’t have an ex-husband but I feel like that would be part of the point.
Equally, if you cut off contact with a parent, then it hardly seems necessary or appropriate to go to their funeral.
Also, if you’re a famous woman whose every move is scrutinised and criticised, you might prefer to grieve the loss of such a complicated relationship in private because you sure as shit wouldn’t be able to do it on public without being ripped to pieces by the tabloids and sundry stirrers on social media.

Anyway, the tabloids will find various ways Meghan killed him (probably something to do with avocados), the rabid Meghan-haters on Mumsnet will all nod solemnly and dab their eyes and say "surely EVERYONE knows avocados are the biggest killer of estranged fathers, she had this planned all along", the funeral will be a media circus and whether Meghan makes a statement or not, she'll be in the wrong for it.

I'm estranged from my father; the only reason I'd go to his funeral would be to make sure they've nailed the coffin shut tight.

I don’t see why they would go, I was estranged from my mother, I didn’t go to her funeral. Him and her step sister have sold so many stories on her. If she did go the step sister would probably just sell the pics of her there or something
