The royal family

If Harry still lived in the UK , do you think the feud would have been sorted by now?

I do feel the biggest hurdle between Harry and his family is that he lives in another country, I think if he lived in the UK there would be more opportunity for them to sort it out

Also Charles isn’t some bumbling fool who never met a back woman until Meghan. He’s famously progressive, and has spent decades travelling the commonwealth and merging more POC you can shake a stick at

100%

Charles was the one behind the gospel choir and the preacher, and who suggested the young Kanneh Mason to play the cello. He wanted the wedding to include reference to Meghan's heritage.

But oddly...I don't think Meghan cared too much on that score. I never see much indication that she cherishes (or identifies with) her African-American heritage!

why do posters call her "markle" seems rather childish. do you call Kate "middleton"

Catherine is the Princess of Wales. Her original surname is irrelevant.

Meghan's title is pretty meaningless in the US, isn't it? Do you think Americans are going to respect a title she had while a member of the RF? She's desperate - absolutely desperate - to cling on to it - it's pretty much all she's got.

And if her surname isn't Markle - what is it? Mountbatten-Windsor, if we're going to be pedantic. But Meghan and Harry's break with the RF and their continued rejection of all it stands for make it increasingly pathetic and ridiculous that they expect to hold on to any kind of UK title.

I always wonder if either of those idiots could point out Sussex on a map...

@CoffeeCantata what sort of stuff has he said to try to retract the racism claims? (I believe you, I just know if I Google it it'll show search results for the man's book, etc.)

Really? If I was pregnant with a mixed race child and someone commented on skin colour, I'd have nothing more to do with them. No need to have racists in your life.

Im from an Italian family, DH’s granny was Palestinian. We all wondered what skin colour our babies would be, as both families have a really differing mix.

I agree, JandamiHash. My son's wife is Indian and we've all been hoping that the baby will escape the pasty skin our family is notorious for! No-one has been offended and we've all had a laugh.

I admired him too

Me three.
I met him once and he was lovely, complimented me on the colour of my coat and apologised to us for "drawing the short straw" and getting him as the Queen was working the crowd on the opposite side of the road.

Ooh - now...I think it was an interview with Tom Bradby where TB brought up the racism issue, and Harry tries to make out that HE never said the RF were racists...it was the press. Hmmm. And then he says it wasn't racism but 'unconscious bias'. Wriggle, wriggle. I haven't checked YouTube, but you might find it on there if you search 'Harry - unconscious bias or similar. I've seen it quite recently somewhere.

It was just one example of him either retracting, or being exposed as liars about many of the allegations they made to Oprah. Other egs are:

Married before the actual wedding which was a spectacle for the peasants, apparently.
Children not allowed titles because racism (actually because only grandchildren of the monarch are Prince and Princess and the Queen was still alive then, so they were great-grandchildren)
Cruelly put into a hovel instead of being given a palace or castle. Their home was a Wren house in Kensington and an enormous apartment in KP was in the process of being prepped for them.
Etc etc.

The 'racist conversation' was absolutely pathetic. It was relayed to Meghan by Harry and she clearly jumped on it as perfect for her victim-narrative. Someone on MN pointed out (I hadn't twigged this) that Harry may not have known she was going to tell OW because she mentioned it in the part of the interview when she was alone with Oprah. I suppose it's possible that he genuinely didn't know she was going to come out with that??? We'll never know, but what a fool he was!

Yes - a fascinating man. I get so tired of the ignorant and reductive comments on here about him being a racist. He was a man of his age and said some things which we'd find unacceptable today - as a joke. But he was a serious man and did much to support indigenous peoples around the world. He had huge respect for them and their way of life. He thought Westerners with their consumerism and materialism were the stupid ones.

Within limits (obvs) we shouldn't judge people born more than a century ago by the mores of 2025. Pretty much no-one would pass that test!

The Wales kids seem really sweet so that's a loss for the Sussex kids. And since none of the Markles are still in touch, they have no first cousins at all to grow up with. I'm sure they will start asking questions one day.

Pippa and James both have kids don’t they?

Yes and I have two different skinned children, as many mixed families do. Nothing racist about discussing it. I’m more inclined to think people who thinks it’s racist to discuss skin colour are racist themselves

Rhaidimiddim · 11/03/2025 16:18

JandamiHash · 11/03/2025 14:34

I’d put money on the skin colour comment being a perfectly normal non racist conversation every family with a nice of races has. But they needed SOMETHING to fuel their new identity and “Daddy cut me off” doesn’t quite have the same ring to it

If the RF really was so racist that Markle could deserve an award for standing up to it, why is it that they only proof they have are the story about the pre- pregnancy conversation and the Blackamoor brooch?

In the few years that MM was around them, did none of them do or say anything else that would be more convincing? And what exactly did she do to stand up against it? She seems to have spend more time sobbing on the floor than standing up to anything.

In Britain, it's a way of expressing dislike or contempt for someone.

No, whilst he's married to that woman he'll stay in the US and the rift will continue

Oh we all do it! Everyone in my family was curious about the colour of my children, and what their hair would be like - both the white and the black side!
Harry referred to it himself, wondering if his ginger colouring would withstand her genes! What a two faced nasty stirrer.

AcquadiP · 11/03/2025 16:53

I agree. A white friend of mine had two children with her partner whose family were from the Caribbean. When the children were young, they used to talk about skin colour as one had dark brown skin whilst the other had skin which was more of a "milk chocolate colour."

People often comment on my skin colour and I'm white or as some call it "white-white." I get this from my Dad's side of the family, we all have really white skin.

Nothing to do with racism.

TheMeasure · 11/03/2025 16:59

"And I'd put good money on the skin colour comment being his."

What 'skin colour comment?' We've never been told what it actually was. It was all sly and spiteful shade and insinuation.

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 11/03/2025 17:04

If there even was a skin colour comment - didn’t Harry says something about his truth but not necessarily the truth? I may have misremembered though!

True. Plus, very spiteful. Imagine getting someone labelled racist on the world stage? What a vile thing to do.
Then accepting a Kennedy Award for fighting racism in the RF.
Then telling Tom Bradby that they never claimed that the RF were racist, it was the British media.
Shameless liars.

The only thing we know for sure, from Harry, is that he himself reflected on the possible colouring of their children.

Well unless the members of the inner royal family
are here to let us know, I do t think you’ll get to the bottom of this. Know one knows.

coolmum123 · 11/03/2025 17:10

MiserableMrsMopp · 11/03/2025 13:15

Nope. I think it would be much nastier with a lot more positioning of sides and bitterness. William is a man with a temper and appears to be quite vindictive.

I think it's just as well H&M are nicely out of the way. For everyone concerned. The royal leeches can carry on as usual. And Harry gets a better life overseas.

I don't think he is happy. If you have lived all your life in a large extended family (which he and William have) yes you aren't all going to get along all the time but if suddenly no one is there no matter how much you tell yourself you are, you wont be happy not in the truest sense of the word.
Look at his life - he doesn't have his closest friends around him, nor any of his family. He rattling around in a humungous house with wife and kids. Yes he has his kids but that's not the whole picture of a happy life. Having to figure out how to earn money when he has never had to do so. That's quite a learning curve for a 40 year old with near enough no qualifications or real life skills. I would say (in Meghan's own words) he is surviving not thriving.

But this was his choice and basically he has to suck it.

Also the Royal Family would know that the overwhelming liklihood is that a woman who is mixed race but presents as white, mixed with the pale redhead Spencer gene, would probably turn out no darker than say Catherine. What exactly is there to be concerned about anyway? They know he married a mixed race woman and let him break all sorts of rules and customs (around the fact she’s divorced) to make it happen. They supported it immensely, got o bombed with the wedding and Charles gave her away. Why on earth would they suddenly worry about the fact they will have children likely paler than she is?!

'What Meghan wants Meghan gets '

JandamiHash · 11/03/2025 17:21

I am a “royal follower”, always have been, and I remember when he put out that tantrum of a statement when he was dating Meghan telling the press to leave his girlfriend alone - I had no idea he had a girlfriend, it was the first I’d heard of it and I remember thinking “This is a bit out of character from laid back Harry”. How wrong was I
