As ever season two: fluffy eggs (with sparkling water) on faces!

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!!!

Despite the ‘almighty’ British media, the rightwing US media and the internet brigade attempting to outdo each other with their crushing, supposedly annihilating reviews of Meghan’s As ever show, not only has it spent the past days in Netflix’s top 10 in more than 40 countries (including being Nr 5 in the Meg-lovin’ UK), Netflix have renewed the show for a 2nd season!

And of course, Netflix are also actively supporting the launch and commercialisation of Meghan’s As ever product range.

So, some folks have plenty of (hopefully fluffy - add sparkling water!) egg on their faces right now, and none of them are Meghan. She’s delivered the perfect put-down to her detractors with her “Lettuce romaine calm” pun, playfully announcing her Season 2 on her Instagram…. and adding a bum wiggle which to me said “we’ve obviously known for months that there’ll be a season 2, but y’all didn’t, so we’ve let you play with your silly headlines and review-bombing about this being ‘the end of the road’ and we ‘should kiss goodbye to Netflix’ BS, before making you all look like the obsessive fools you are by announcing season 2. Back-off and just chill, folks!”

Too funny! So far in this little PR war, it’s Meghan 2, detractors 0. Basically, the general public don’t GAF about the screeching online: if the show’s a good watch they’ll watch it, and they evidently are… kinda like… a certain biography, that other Sussex review-bombed ‘abject failure’ that still went on to become a Nr1 bestseller in the UK and US…

So, where did the gormless twopenny British journalists and their equally misguided US counterparts go wrong (again)? They were so eager to wield the knife into Meghan (a soooo much easier and risk-free target than Elon Musk, Donald Trump or even Andrew Tate, whom they’re evidently too chicken sh*t to go after with a tenth of the vitriol they enjoy hurling at Meghan), that they forgot to read the not so small print.

That small print includes the words “Netflix” and “Sony Pictures Television”, producers of As ever.

Now, who wields more power and influence over US viewers and consumers, Marina Hyde and her fellow sour-grapes, or Netflix and Sony Pictures combined (not to mention People magazine, Drew Barrymore, etc)?

Hmm… tough one.

So next time spineless journos want to pile-in on a mixed heritage woman for the heinous crime of launching a feel-good lifestyle business, maybe they could read the small print about who’s backing her and turn their Trump and Musk a*s-licking tongues in their mouths a few times before spouting off, lest they end up being the ones looking utterly ridiculous?

If you feel the British and right wing media have been spineless in their continued attacks on Meghan Sussex, discuss!

Meanwhile I need to find me one of ‘em ‘Lettuce romaine calm” baseball caps. Etsy sellers, get to work!

But back to the show - I realise what a basic person I am - because I was watching and I realised that I indeed am the one who has bought a baloon machine for a balloon arch for my little one's 3 year old birthday back in the day and have been one to make a little welcome basket for a guest room 😂. But the one thing I will say is just how cozy and calming it all has been and I have absolutley loved the music. Glad we have 8 more epsiodes - hopefully she'll film a holiday special this summer.

Back in the day being the operative words. It's all so last decade.

Have you located any dupes yet? Tesco do a cracking pancake mix I can point you towards.

What utter nonsense

Meghan’s now responsible for hurting Netflix subscribers? Too silly for words.

Edited

If they follow her bath salts recipe, they may well be - skin burns.

It's such a strange thing to use/sell pancake mix though? They're so easy to make.
I tend to follow cooks who make things from scratch. All these very processed foods have been proven to be so bad.
Maybe she doesn't know that?

doubleshotcappuccino · 08/03/2025 15:47

@TallerSally well said in your opener OP! It's a light program from a woman who gets more than her fair share of vitriol but still comes up smelling of roses - love them both xx

I know, Romina. It's one of the easiest things you can cook. I don't buy dupes of food I can cook very easily from store-cupboard staples. Others may need more assistance, though, because they are not confident cooks. And for some people, it's a one off treat for which they don't want to buy and store ingredients. MM is aiming at the latter markets, because she's not actually teaching them to become authentically good at cooking themselves. Just selling them an imitation of her life in a packet that will end up in landfill. I hope they have the imagination to transport themselves to a McMansion in Montecito, when sampling the UPF laden results from wherever their kitchen is.

RominaDina · 08/03/2025 15:25

It's a strange type of vehicle for her because she's obviously not a good cook, and she's not particularly likable or engaging. It's difficult to know what she could do, really. Perhaps go on one of those Real Housewives shows? I think that's her level.
OP, I don't want to get personal, but it sounds like you're very angry about all this, it's really not worth it.

There are seeds of a good format in it. The parts where she coojs with Chef Choi are far more natural and engaging than when she takes the tutor role. She could lean into the learning angle and showcase a series of experts instead of pretending she is one.

CoffeeCantata · 08/03/2025 16:26

I admire Meghan’s resilience, I must say. To be subjected to the furore, fury and frenzy that she has experienced and come out smiling and determined not to be silenced, not to go off and be quiet somewhere, takes a strength I doubt I would have.

Or maybe sheer brass-neck, utter tone-deafness and chronic failure to read the room?

I don't think she has a clue how completely ridiculously she comes across - I honestly think she believes her own hype. It's a fascinating study in narcissism taken to the limit!

RominaDina · 08/03/2025 16:48

She's her own worst enemy. It's an extraordinary lack of self awareness.

Absolutely—some things are last decade, and yet here we are still talking about them. Funny how that works! Cozy, nostalgic, a little indulgent—not for everyone, but for some, and that’s okay.

I pressure-can and make my own preserves, so I think my base knowledge for cooking is solid—I make a variety of her one-pot pasta with crab, and it’s absolutely delicious. It's been so much fun to see people online trying the one pot dish because, from experience, it's an absolute game changer if you want a quick meal.

Also, I was so pleased to see plantain featured in her cooking! So many people hesitate to cook with it, but it’s such a fantastic starch to work with, and the chips are amazing—definitely worth trying! (Of course, I know you wouldn’t use Meghan’s method, but I do hope you give one of the many other recipes out there a go—they really are great.)

I truly appreciate your kind offer for a Tesco dupe for pancake mix. However, as someone who makes her own from scratch, I don’t think it’s necessary—but that was really thoughtful of you to think of me. The one thing I have gone and duped is the truffle salt from Waitrose becuase I am that girl 😂.

I haven’t had a chance to watch the last two episodes yet—that’s my tomorrow afternoon plan—but I’m really enjoying the series so far!

and how would you reply to some of the othe comments?
Could you start with the point that a secomd series has not been commissioned, it was all filmed at once to be released in 2 segments?

FromTheOfficeOfJammyTodger · 08/03/2025 17:42

Well no, @skullbabe we are not talking about balloon arches positively. We are horrified (or should be) about the unnecessary environmental impact, and the general tackiness. But you do you if none of that bothers you.

Yeah, the one pot method has been popular for a while. Pity Meghan didn't have the courtesy to acknowledge the originator of that recipe she copied.

I'm not a massive fan of plantain. I think I had it every day during my travels in Africa and again in Central America. Put me off a bit. Perhaps I'll give it another go. Pamela Anderson did a wonderful chip recipe on her programme, really informative about the science and methodology. I am sure I could adapt that.

So glad you were able to find at least one dupe. I hope you add it to your Christmas list.

TallerSally · 08/03/2025 17:43

Mightymoog · 08/03/2025 09:57

Season 2 was filmed at the same time as season 1
It was always going to be shown as it would make no financial sense not to.

it is already out of the top 10 which is a swift exit

I have no idea what Trump or Musk has to do with her show if you could please explain

Reading the reviews, you’d think Meghan and her innocuous cooking/lifestyle show are the biggest threat facing Western civilisation and, heck, the global economy at this time.

Which begs the question, why are journos spending so much time filling online space with one article per hour bashing a mixed-heritage female entrepreneur selling drugs and nuclear weapons… no, scrap that, selling pancake mix and edible flowers - far away in California?

Because they can, right? Much safer for them than bashing the true threats to Western civilisation (and at the very least, to women’s hard-fought for rights, particularly pertinent today, IWD) and the global economy… who happen to be extremely powerful men whose millions and power the journos are petrified of…

Meg-bashing, the preserve of the feeble?

Surely, different strokes for different folks—surely that’s okay? Not everything is for everyone, and that’s kind of the beauty of it all.

As for the one-pot recipe, we all know (well, I do anyway) it’s an old method, so there’s no real originator here. But if we’re now expecting every public cook to footnote their sources, I look forward to seeing that standard applied across the board. Because let’s be honest—there are quite a few TV cooks whose recipes are far from original, and I don’t recall them citing their sources either.

Pamela’s show isn’t available in the UK yet, so I haven’t watched it (though I did catch a YouTube short of her making sweet potato fries—so yum!). I love that it’s getting appreciation. Highlighting vegan cooking is so important, and I’m all for it! I once made a 'blue cheese' from cashews (apologies to my tasters—it was not my finest work), so seeing that she’s done an 'ice cream' from cashews is so exciting for people like me who need to be dairy-free! Definitely checking out her show when it hits UK Prime.

Oh, and no need to add truffle salt to my Christmas list—already got it. 😉

@TallerSally At this point, it’s undeniable that Meghan drives traffic and clicks, and that’s the real engine behind the endless articles dissecting her every move. The sheer volume of coverage—whether positive or negative—isn’t about her actual influence, but about the business of outrage and engagement. It’s less about critique now and more about a self-sustaining media industry built on clickbait and outrage farming.

And the negativity? Well, that’s been brilliantly weaponised by Netflix (hat tip to another poster on another thread). Whether people are watching out of genuine interest, curiosity, or pure hate watching, it all counts the same in Netflix’s data. Her critics might think they’re taking her down, but in reality, they’re part of the PR machine—boosting traffic, generating headlines, and ultimately ensuring Netflix (and Meghan) cash in when that $100 million contract ends.
