Attractiveness in women is a tricky one. Beauty has been valued in women to some degree for a long time. “Mirror mirror on the wall”. All those knights with their “fair lady” poems. But you might say other things were also valued at the same time. I was reading Chaucer’s Canterbury tales recently and, when they pursued a beautiful lady, you can see in the text honesty and character and virtue were also highly valued. With the already mentioned crude Daily Mail sidebar it seems “good looks” (and the cruder the better) seem to be valued more and more now and in isolation; image is everything esp in our media driven tik tok world. PS. I have met a couple of beautiful women in their 80s but it wasn’t the same thing as a ‘good looking’ 25 year old obviously. But yh, beauty is overvalued. When you meet a lovely person they automatically seem more so.

I bring good news. After two reminders and cc'ing the web designer, As Ever has sent me an email confirming I am unsubscribed from the mailing list.

And yeah, the pressure on women now is pretty big.

MissRoseDurward · 12/03/2025 12:23

She was pretty when she was younger. I'm always struck by just how pretty she was, when I see older photos of her, especially when she was going for a more natural look. I thought her wedding day make up was lovely.

FarmerDramaLlama · 12/03/2025 12:56

Unsure if this is true obviously.

I find her teeth distracting like a lot of Hollywood women now. Too big in her head.

I must admit I do have arm envy! Meghan knows she has great arms as they’re always on show and being waved about. Apparently toned slim arms are today’s signifier of wealth as it takes so much time and money to stave off bingo wings.

I'm glad you said that. Being neither cash or time rich I now have an excuse for my own bi go wings. 😀

Weepixie · 12/03/2025 13:20

I agree. Her face has shrunk and all I can see when there’s a picture of her nowadays is a talking head with huge teeth.

Admittedly it is a very long time since I read The Canterbury Tales, but that isn't what I remember @MidnightTales value on youth and beauty and general lewdness is my memory.

Heartiest Congratulations , Ida . 😁

LivelyMintViper · 12/03/2025 14:44

I'm glad she seems to have abandoned the ringlets from episode 1. I have yet to see anyone they look good on, let alone a mature lady.

Vespanest · 12/03/2025 14:53

I have trouble understanding why bring this down to beauty and looks, there are much more interesting things such as actions, performance and personality . Bringing her looks into the conversation if anything just feeds the opposing theory that it's just petty women jealous of her beauty. I cringe when it's done to Catherine and I cringe when it's done to Meghan

LivelyMintViper · 12/03/2025 15:19

If she was not trading on appearances she would not spend so much on it. Feedback on it is an essential part of her planning. She has tried marketing herself as an activist and without any obvious success she is now in the throes of marketing lifestyle. This is entirely about how things look. Unlike Catherine whose public focus is largely on what she is doing.

MaturingCheeseball · 12/03/2025 15:24

I don’t like to dwell on looks either, but…. this show is all about appearances. Meghan “sells” herself on her attractiveness and clothes. I don’t think anyone commented on Delia Smith’s outfits or face/figure. Nor Nadia Hussein to be more modern. Nigella, yes, but she was hamming it up which is a concept utterly alien to Meghan!

MaturingCheeseball · 12/03/2025 15:25

Sorry, crosspost with @LivelyMintViper

Aaah thank-you, @BasiliskStare. You may want to mute your enthusiasm a bit though as a) the email isn't branded - no footer etc - so looks anything but professional b) my questions about what has been done with the ARO mailing list have not been answered so no attention to detail there 🙃

Lack of a sense of humour and ability to laugh at herself is one of the things that makes Meghan hard work.

Admittedly it is a very long time since I read The Canterbury Tales, but that isn't what I remember @MidnightTales value on youth and beauty and general lewdness is my memory.

My point is that the chivalrous “fair lady” concept was meant in a wider sense, not just a basic or base ‘attractiveness’. The wider sense of the wonderful, loyal female paramour/wife is in a couple of the tales, and very moving I found it too. Of course a couple of the Chaucer tales were on the lewd side (the wife of Bath’s tale springs to mind ha, shades of Carry On Up the Khyber, plus a few serious marital observations), but I found that refreshing in its own way 😀

MidnightTales · 12/03/2025 16:13

G

This is quite funny too, maybe not as funny as Vanessa feltz

glitterturd · 12/03/2025 20:29

It was all a bit Will and Grace - an outdated and lazy stereotype.

YourWinter · 12/03/2025 20:42

Meghan seems unaware that her narcissistic character is massively exposed (elevated?) even in the trailer for WLM. Desperately trying to impress, desperate for validation, for gratitude, but it’s all so false. No matter how much she insists it’s all about “showing up”, showing she’s thinking of someone, showing she cares, and needing effusive gratitude and congratulations for being So Kind.

Where was the kindness when her father needed it? She didn’t “show up” with quiet and genuine kindness for any of her blood family, nor for Harry’s, and look what they’ve been through in recent years. I don’t believe she has a shred kindness in her, no empathy, just an overriding urge to be the centre of attention, only inclined to “give” when she can publicise how fabulously generous she’s been - look! Look at me being kind! Did you see me being kind? Who is the kindest Duchess of them all? ME! ME!

She’s a lousy actress, a liar and a hypocrite, and a spiteful, selfish woman.

She wanted to be a princess in a palace at least, preferably a castle, and all she was offered was a royal apartment, and a royal “cottage”. Poor little fool.

Mayomash · 12/03/2025 20:55

@YourWinter I agree with you - she is showing one face of the narc MO - the nauseating love-bombing / kissing-up to those whose approval she seeks by spewing her repeated soundbites about love / kindness / showing - up etc. in her grandiose, delusional and contrived series - in order to elevate her own status.

But actions speak louder than words and behind closed doors the other real face of the narc - kicking-down on suborinates by bullying and belittling her many staff over very many years in many workplace settings has been repeated and independently investigated and reported. Her behavior is so appaling she has hounded people from their jobs and left others needing professional support to restore their mental health after being the target of her bullying.

Going against the grain, I actually think Meghan looks the best she ever has these days. She’s a stunning woman.

I just watched part of the Drew interview. I’ve never watched that show before but woah, Drew’s gushing is off the scale. Is she like that with all her guests? It’s so over the top!

She is, I’ve seen snippets and some very funny parodies. I think Drew is a genuinely warm person though and had an unbelievably traumatic childhood, and so pours her energy into being nice

BigWillyLittleTodger · 12/03/2025 21:44

Agree wholeheartedly with both posts @YourWinter and @Mayomash how she is still feted by the media and her stans is beyond comprehension when you think that celebrities have been cancelled for a historic tweet or lost their careers for far far less than this awful women, I’ve said this before but her friend Ellen De Generes must be absolutely baffled that she lost her career for a toxic working environment on her show yet Meghan appears to be untouchable no matter how heinous she is.
