Blood royal is an interesting concept. The only person who I've heard use it in the medieval context is Andrew about his "blood royal princesses" which is yet more evidence of his arrogance and entitlement.

I see it as one of those quirks you often get in British rules that result from doing things in similar ways for hundreds of years. Different rules for the titles of those born royal is on a par with the way we call an animal one thing and it's meat another. It's a fascinating reflection of history and how things evolve over time. But not to be taken seriously.

Is Harry throwing her under the bus somewhat by not being more present in this show?

He’s probably just bewildered by it. It’s so far out of his realm of experience and knowledge. I often think he looks a bit lost and bewildered when he’s her spare part.

In the ladybug/ladybird bit why does she refer to Harry as ‘my husband’ to a good friend?

Because everyone, including her husband is only defined in relation to herself.

Harry, it would appear, has explained fuck all to her , curtsying to his grandmother, the titles of Prince and Princess and when they are given , the fact that they don't get paid to do walk abouts , the fact that they didn't have a secret wedding before the actual wedding etc etc

She’s not a child. All of us with a brain who watch TV and read know these things. It’s common sense.

If Meghan wanted him there he'd be there! What Meghan wants Meghan gets don't forget 🤣

I agree and I too have only heard it used in modern times by Andrew when referring to his daughters.
But this show seems to be trying to present Meghan as someone who's grown up at a distance from the "simple folk" (quote from the musical 'Camelot').
Why is Mindy so amazed about the fact that Meghan's eaten food from a fast food chain?
Even "blood royals" (awful phrase) brought up in a palace and born into the royal family have doubtless eaten a burger. It's not all flambeed swan.

PigglyWigglyOhYeah · 06/03/2025 07:14

I am confused by the name thing. Apparently she didn't want Archie to have the title Earl of Dumbarton, because she objected to the 'Dumb' bit and thought other kids would bully him, but is now OK with her children having the word 'sex' in their surnames which, as someone who works with teenagers, I can tell you will give rise to much greater hilarity.

He's reduced to the court jester again - jumping out and scaring her 🙄 on her hike with her friend.

Thank you @BasiliskStare 😂

They haven’t all eaten pizza though 🤪

CatsWhiskerz · 06/03/2025 07:24

@glitterturd - your name made me chuckle, I had visions of Meghan using glitter and perhaps dried flowers in her toilets, elevating everything and all that 🤣😉

OctopusFriend · 06/03/2025 07:27

I saw some of that Drew Barrymore interview. Meghan is totally positioning herself as a trad wife. Husband, children and barefoot in the kitchen.
When describing Harry, she used the term "charming". He's her Prince Charming. That's the fantasy. That's her current incarnation, in a fairytale.
From everything we've seen and heard of Harry, I think "Charming" isn't a descriptor which springs to mind.

Didn't Harry always send out for a Nandos?
I think Mindy Kaling comes across as a bit unaware and out of the loop in this. It's odd.

You're on to something.
Please let the next episode be "elevating your toilet".

I wonder if part of the criticism arises from Netflix's enthusiasm for cancelling series at random? I've stopped starting new series there because the ones I enjoy are invariably cancelled just after I've watched the season 1 cliffhanger. In a couple of articles I have found a tone of annoyance that Netflix cancels lots of popular things but still gave Harry and Meghan such a great deal for novices.

Instead of season 2 of this can they please bring back .... well there's a whole list I won't bore you with!

Agree with this.

And I think this will be worrying NF. It is one thing for people not to watch. It is another if people start cancelling their subscriptions.

It has actually made me think about cancelling mine ( I've been paying for Netflix since they posted out DVDs!) because it has made me question where they are spending the money, because it isn't on the series I enjoy.

I hadn't really realised that I'd given up on new series, but I have for the same reason. They keep cancelling/leaving cliff hangers that are never resolved.

RecollectionsMayRealiseMyJamIsNotActuallyJam · 06/03/2025 07:35

I didn't know that about PA and his 'blood royal princesses' that is both hilarious and horrifying in equal measure.
All a bit Harry Potter.

Oh, he's utterly ridiculous. Those girls were raised with the idea they'd be on a par with William and Harry. His entitlement shines through, doesn't it?

I stand corrected on pancakes. Still not convinced by jam on them.

I think it's all carefully scripted, none of the questions are off the cuff .

I do think whoever chose those titles for them was having a little joke. Whether it was the Queen herself or one of the courtiers suggested them. Sussex, Dumbarton and Kilkeel. It just comes across as a bit intentional.

And before anyone tells me off, I am from a place with a bit of an unfortunate sounding name, and although I love where I live, I wouldn't want the name in a title!

The story about them rejecting a title for Archie so he could have a normal life was very obviously not the case, even at the time not many people seemed to believe it and thought it was probably that they just didn't like the name he was given.

Mightymoog · 06/03/2025 07:48

@Jacquettes
Do you also get secondary embarassment when you hear them being referred to as king/ queen/ princess tec.?
I do. It's like something out of a toddler's story.

PrettyFlyforaMaiTai · 06/03/2025 07:55

It’s funny how uncomfortable she looks when she’s the one being clawed at for a change

As Ever Part 6: Definitely NOT a trad wife
