Charles & Diana's wedding. I was 4.

Snap. We had a garden party with flags and I had a Princess Diana colouring book.

treesandsun · 03/03/2025 20:39

Going to the next door neighbours to see Princess Anne's first wedding - they had a colour tv and we had black and white. It was boring as fuck and probably what put me off them for life. Also remember getting a silver jubilee coin and having a street party.

puffylovett · 03/03/2025 20:53

Another one here with the coin for the silver jubilee. I was about 3 and I remember being given the coin on our village square at a street party. My sister was a baby sitting up in the big old silver cross pram.

AmusedGoose · 03/03/2025 21:04

Watching princess Ann's wedding on the COLOUR tvs in the rental shop.

The Queen’s Silver Jubilee

Me too. I remember hearing the national anthem at the street party and expecting her to turn up. I was anxious because there was litter in the gutter and she would see it.

embolass · 03/03/2025 21:24

1977 Queens Silver Jubilee
There was some kind of street party round the corner, we didn’t go, family weren’t into the Royals but my friends were there and I was just 7 so didn’t quite understand. Now I get why folks didn’t attend

1980: TV news footage of Lady Diana being chased by the press near the nursery school where she worked.

RuthW · 03/03/2025 21:27

Princess Anne's first wedding.

We went Next-door to watch it in colour as we only had black and white. I think I was 5.

Princess Anne's wedding

Luddite26 · 03/03/2025 21:34

1977 silver jubilee waiting near the railway line in hit sun waiting to wave at a train with The Queen on it.
Waited ages and her curtains were closed when the train finally passed.
Also the school Jubilee picnic.

I am old.George VI death.I was about 7 years old and in the infant's school.I have a strong memory of being in the cloakroom and drinking water straight out of the tap when another girl suddenly said ''The King is dead''.

Theoldcuriosityshop · 03/03/2025 21:42

The death of King George VI.

The queens mother death when I was in primary school.

Princess Anne came to my school when I was 6 (around 2002), and it was so disappointing! She didn't have long hair or a tiara or a ball gown or anything!! 😂

FusionChefGeoff · 03/03/2025 21:52

Marching around our living room with my friend aged about 7 singing The Grand old Duke of York as Andrew and Fergie got married.

augustusglupe · 03/03/2025 21:54

Princess Anne’s wedding to Mark Phillips.
We had a day off school and me and my friend went to the swimming baths. I was 9 I think.

MissyGirlie · 03/03/2025 21:55

Princess Anne's wedding, back in 1973.

We listened on a borrowed radio - we were living abroad at the time.

beadystar · 03/03/2025 21:56

Princess Anne came to my city when I was about 7. I was disappointed seeing her- I think I was expecting a Disney princess with a tiara and glittery dress!

MrsMoastyToasty · 03/03/2025 22:03

Mine is of the king of Sweden, despite being in England at the time. My dad got presented to him in the 1970s whilst in Sweden at a trade exhibition and has photos from the event. I was disappointed to discover he wasn't wearing a crown.

MrsGusset · 03/03/2025 22:17

My first royal memory was when Queen Mary died.

Everybody said how very sad it was that she lived long enough to suffer the loss of her son, George VI, but not long enough to see her grandaughter, QEII, crowned.

Mylovelygreendress · 03/03/2025 22:30

Princess Margaret’s wedding in 1960 . I think it was the first Royal wedding to be televised ( black and white).

CrushingOnRubies · 03/03/2025 22:35

Think the death of Princess Diana

MrsAvocet · 03/03/2025 22:48

Princess Anne's first wedding for me. We got the day off school and I have vague memories of watching some of it on tv but I was only 7 and I don't think it really grabbed my attention. I think my older sister was more interested as she was in her teens and into fashion so wanted to see what everyone was wearing. Mind you,we only had a black and white tv so it wasn't much of a spectacle!

Jacquettes · 04/03/2025 02:33

Walking forever when I was a young child to see the late Queen drive by on one of her special days. Blink and you missed it. I remember thinking she looked like my mum but my mum had a nicer hairstyle. Until that day I wasn’t aware a Queen even existed. I had thought they were only in fairytales. So I expected coach, ballgown and tiara in a day time drive by.
