I noticed the old thread is almost full so thought we could start a new one to carry on the discussion about the rebrand and merching.

Are you an ‘As Ever’ or ‘Whatever’?

@PrettyFlyforaMaiTai brilliant. Isn't it possible for them/her to do some of this now? Could Oprah actually help them by giving them a platform to something to rectify. What do you think her true goal was in first outing?

Jumping the gun and poor planning seem to be behind a lot of the issues. Getting someone like Simon Fuller in their sphere on side might be a good plan. Who advises Victoria Beckham as she and David seem to be killing it currently. I'd be looking at other celebs who are nailing it and learning from them.

Initially I thought that the story about Fergie teaching her how to curtsy was a good story to tell to stay on Eugenie’s good side.

Are they/she still in Eugenie and B's good books? Fergie? They might be able to act as a bridge back in. Fergie understands what it is to be a Royal pariah but seems to have had a real and successful redemption arc playing out. Anything to learn here?

MissFenellaPrism · 21/02/2025 15:30

I doubt very much whether Beatrice and Eugenie will want to fall out with William. If they're wise, they'll cut out H&M and focus on other things. They may find themselves maligned by H&M in an interview or article in the future anyway, it wouldn't surprise me.

Fergie is about to be exposed by Andrew Lownie as being as corrupt as her ex, in his forthcoming book/expose about the two of them. Right now, I'd be putting as much distance between myself and her as I could, if I were Meghan and Harry.

User14March · 21/02/2025 15:37

@FromThePrismOfJammyTodger oh dear. You can see why aristo women give royal relationships a swerve, from what I know Fergie isn’t all bad & much maligned if flawed.

User14March · 21/02/2025 15:39

@MissFenellaPrism awful politics & strategy have to come into play with your own family.

I agree. It's really an awful situation

ThePoshUns · 21/02/2025 15:42

I'm currently listening to the Palace papers on audiobook.
Fergie came off quite poorly in her divorce from Andrew as she wanted to remain in friendly terms with HMQ.
She's secured a deal with Wedgwood and spent a year visiting over 140 shopping malls across the uSA flogging dinner services by showing how to set a table to royal standards. Meg see tp be heading down the same route with her Netflix collab

BunnyLake · 21/02/2025 15:44

@PrettyFlyforaMaiTai

I believe all of that was totally achievable. It’s blindingly obvious to non-narc type people what the right pathway should (and could easily) have been. It’s astonishing that they couldn’t see it.

RecoIIectionsMayVary · 21/02/2025 15:45

I take it on Instagram, who follows you matters?

Would you expect good friends to follow your new enterprise?

User14March · 21/02/2025 15:48

@ThePoshUns that’s interesting & actually reflects rather well on Fergie. She’s sort of affectionately portrayed in Windsors too. Her girls seem to have made stable marriages & reflect well on her. Bea auctioning that hideous wedding showed good character too.

Mylovelygreendress · 21/02/2025 14:20

Is The Tig trademarked ?

Apparently so, Mylovelygreendress, if this is it:
https://trademarks.justia.com/861/91/the-86191386.html

I'm fascinated that someone said that Meghan mentioned The Tig 5 times and As Ever only three, and wonder if there's going to be yet another name change, though at least this one would make some sort of sense

User14March · 21/02/2025 15:50

@RecoIIectionsMayVary who are their/her friends these says? Who can they rely on? Williams sisters?

She's taken money from Jeffrey Epstein. She's extravagant, likes the high life and is profligate with the money she doesn't really have. She's got involved in some stupid personal and business relationships. She's dug the hole she's in herself, the RF aren't to blame.

MissRoseDurward · 21/02/2025 15:56

Give Thomas a second chance on the condition he keeps everything confidential. If he breaks this trust one more time, cut him off for good.

I think Thomas had already been cut off before he spoke to any media, he just didn't know it yet. I don't think she ever intended him to be at the wedding. Why had he and Harry never met, if she intended him to be part of her new life?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 21/02/2025 15:58

I think Harry likes to present that narrative of his ex girlfriend's not wanting a royal role, so they ditched him, , but I wonder if the split with Chelsea was more to do with his cheating and Chelsea finally calling it a day, they were off and on for years

Or possibly she just decided he was a tosser anyway, @Thedom?

Since she's had the sense to stay schtum we'll never know, but remember Harry was still within the RF back then and hadn't yet blown his credibility to bits, so claims that it was all.the institution's fault may have held more weight

User14March · 21/02/2025 15:59

@MissRoseDurward agree. She’d have needed him over way before wedding date to make sure he’d pass muster. I think she knew ‘that letter’ would be leaked too.

No, he didn't fit the vibe. There was no way she was going to have him walk her down the aisle.

babymamalove · 21/02/2025 15:09

Basically, this. By going in so hard on the royal family people got fed up of hearing about them even if they may have had some valid grievances. I think having that many deals was a bad idea though. First Oprah, then Netflix and THEN a book? Serious overexposure and a really bad strategy. It’s almost like they were trying to grab as much money as they could at the beginning but it’s backfired now.

I reckon if they did what you said and split more amicably then Meghan could have launched this lifestyle stuff sooner and been successful because there was a lot of interest in her and her fashion etc. I’m sure there would have been a market for it.

I think that they also had a lot of people around them set to benefit financially who would have whipped them up and dazzled them with the prospects of $$$$$. MM arrived with her lawyer, agent and PR agents all in tow. They were working on brokering deals/collborations for her / them from the outset. They also had the likes of OW scmhoozing them, then the battle between publishers and streamers to get the exclusives. H&M were hot property then and their representatives did pull off amazing deals in every commercial medium. So the agents, the collaborator and H&M all cashed in initially......but it hasnt been sustainable as they have zero talent, any original ideas or any ability to work respectfully with teams to design, develop and deliver an initiative.

It was also always about money though - as per the first line of their leaving announcement (to be financially independent ie more $$$$$) .... the philanthropy and elevating communities or what ever tedious word salad was spouted was just smoke and mirrors to hide their ugly egos and naked greed.

MissRoseDurward · 21/02/2025 16:17

I think she knew ‘that letter’ would be leaked too.

I think she probably intended that it would be leaked.

TheMeasure · 21/02/2025 16:21

And don't forget her trying to blame "the institution" for her niece not getting invited to the wedding. "The guidance we received... it would look odd and raise questions about why Samantha wasn't there."
Bollocks. I don't think many queried why Samantha didn't get an invite. But they sure as hell wondered why there was no other family there at all (apart from Doria) but the bloody Clooneys and Oprah made the Quire stalls in the chapel.

I tend to agree but why, if so, did vanishingly few consider a ruse?

PrettyFlyforaMaiTai · 21/02/2025 14:46

I keep thinking if I was actually advising them, what would I recommend to salvage this whole mess. But I don’t think they are salvageable. We’d have to go back to 2020.

I'd advise:

  • Wait to talk to the Queen and royals before announcing Sussex Royal. They jumped the gun in order to beat the media breaking it first. But their gung-ho approach blindsided the royals that the Queen had no option but to offer all in or all out. It’s only media speculation until the Sussexes confirm it, but they are obsessed with controlling the narrative.
  • Ditch Scobie as their mouthpiece and build better rapport with media. Harry should still pursue phone hacking scandal but either settle earlier and permanently put it behind him. Or else go all guns blazing fully expecting to win the moral high ground but lose money and dignity.
  • Do not do Oprah interview AT ALL!
  • Release Harry & Meghan documentary but keep it positive, no whinging about the media and royals. It should be about their love story and making a new life in California. No victim mentality.
  • Harry releases biography but it’s called ‘Call me Harry’. No whinging about William getting more sausages or the men in grey suits. Focus on his mental health journey, career and relationships with Meghan. How living in a royal fish bowl wasn’t for him though he appreciates the privilege and opportunities brought. He is happier being “just Harry” etc.
  • Meghan releases a podcast about herself (Being Meghan/Simply Meghan/Just Meghan) where she discusses her skin care, beauty, fitness regime etc. She shares anecdotes about her life and shares her views on the big news stories of the day, all in a light hearted chatty sort of way
  • She links her instagram to the podcast and advertises the products she discussed on the podcast. She does what I eat in a day/outfit of the day posts and collaborates with brands. I could see her collaborating with the California tourist board and share secret local gems in the area. Mix her designer wardrobe with high street etc
  • Eventually release ‘Love Meghan’ as a light hearted cooking show. Invite celebrity or well renown chefs and create wholesome family meals. Market it as ‘embracing imperfections” rather than ‘elevating the ordinary and have fun goofing around and getting it wrong. Don’t merchandise products but release a cook book.

Also:

  • Stop faux royal tours
  • Keep in contact with English family and maximise exposure at jubilees and coronation.
  • Give Thomas a second chance on the condition he keeps everything confidential. If he breaks this trust one more time, cut him off for good. Ignore Samantha and don’t engage.
  • Decide if you want to keep Archie and Lili away from the limelight or not. No teasing the back of their heads or using blurred images of them to advertise your products if you won’t release any official photos of them.
  • Keep up charitable endeavours but keep it quiet and behind closed doors unless you want to promote the charity with an official visit. No bringing the cameras to war cemeteries or grief vulturing in disaster zones.

This is excellent advice for a rational emotionally stable couple.

However it doesnt account for the off the scale outrage that H&M felt after they didnt get what they wanted - half in, half out which they assumed they were entitled to prior to the Sandringham summit. Their grandiose and delusional egos were piqued and the malicious and vexatious revenge campaign erupted (their agents/OW/PRH etc would have been rubbing their hands with this escalation of the ordinary as more $$$$ in dirt)....and here we are. It made them money in the short term but the ongoing bullying, cruelty, vindictiveness and disingenousness of their behaviours to many people - family, friends, colleagues and staff.......leaves a very nasty taste in the mouth.

friendlycat · 21/02/2025 16:32

@PrettyFlyforaMaiTai
Has summed up exactly what should have happened in the beginning.

And sadly it’s all so obvious. No rocket science.
I simply cannot believe they weren’t advised to do this by the professionals.
However they don’t have the emotional intelligence to recognise good advice and Meghan's personality obviously can’t handle absorbing sound advice and implementing it.
