Are you sure? Because that's literally against US Company Law. Per the 2021 Platform Accountability and Consumer Transparency (PACT) Act, there has to be a clear option shown to unsubscribe.
The endless cock-ups around the launch of As Ever support my theory that the Sussexes are desperately short of cash. I can see no other reason why Meghan would be doing this launch so cheaply and shoddily.
To summarise my reasons for believing she's doing this launch on the cheap:
- Inadequate patenting advice - good (ie expensive) patent lawyers would have advised from the start that ARO was a no-go, and would also have advised that As Ever is a bad brand (too diffuse, and also, already in use by a niche but popular clothing company)
- Bad PR support - hence the leaks. Good (ie expensive) PR agents have the bargaining power to control leakage. Meghan clearly does not have this.
- Bad brand advisers. A good branding specialist would have clocked immediately that the brand logo is not only ugly (less sunny Cali, more ancient Sumerian stone carving) but is also similar to one already in use as the civic symbol of Mallorca. Hell, a Google Image search could have told Meghan this for free; albeit we know from her own words that Meghan is not aware of the vast company, Google, nor its famous search engine, so perhaps we can forgive her here. But a brand specialist would have told her!
- Bad business consultancy. Jam is a TERRIBLE product to lead with. It's too cheap to make; most people only make occasional use of it, so repeat orders won't be frequent; it's being launched at a time when the East and West Coasts are quitting sugar en masse; the US market for artisan jams is BEYOND SATURATED, as per Whole Foods and Trader Joes annual reports (and in-store shelves). Jam doesn't have the aspirational quality nor the product quality to make decent operating profit margins.
Speaking as a PR and marketing professional I am genuinely shocked; these are the kind of mistakes that an MLM hun in her early 30s with no college degree and no marketing experience would make when starting up her at-home business with zero staff or advice. It's THAT basic. And that's even before we get on to the tired, Instragram-in-2015 aesthetic of the visuals released so far.
I'm willing to believe Meghan when she says she's a highly intelligent and detailed oriented person, but in that case, what the hell is happening here? Is it a joke? Just, for the love of all that's holy, WHY???
