Focus to be on Kate's work not her outfits

Kensington Palace has announced they will no longer be releasing details on Kate's outfits but the focus will be on her work. Not sure about this as journalists are still going to write about her outfits. But I cam see why they are doing it.

on her work?
So the articles about her are going to be a lot shorter then?

Miaow

WinterMorn · 02/02/2025 19:16

If this is the case, it’s only going to work if her outfits start coming from Next, River Island and M&S!

IdaGlossop · 02/02/2025 19:18

I understand why she has done this and hope the fashion industry doesn't suffer. If she's really serious, she could wear the same thing every time she's out in public, like Diana did when she went to the gym.

Hahahaha

Fashion journos are quite able to identify where most clothes come from so I don’t think it will mean a lack of DM articles banging on about how she’s leading the way in trouser suits or whatever

Agree with this, she needs to wear more "normal" clothes!

They're still going to give details from the big occasions so the fashion industry won't be affected.

And the pieces she wears from the high street stores will be easily recognised so they'll not be affected either.

Quinlan · 02/02/2025 19:20

I wish maybe they could have her wear small independent designers and makers from the UK, instead of wearing high street or high fashion. And then report on it, to give those designers some exposure.

It was literally the only thing I liked about Nicola Sturgeon. She wore a lot of small independent, hand made clothing items by Scottish designers and said she did it because if press were going to write about what she wore then she could at least get exposure for small businesses in Scotland.

Snorlaxo · 02/02/2025 19:23

As long as Kate is photographed, what she’s wearing will be a topic that will be reported. There will be people in the industry who will know and pass on the info to journalists.

Of course, but everyday items from the High St tend not to be as attention grabbing as designer outfits.

Ohpleeeease · 02/02/2025 19:25

I think that makes sense and it’s a welcome development, long overdue. There are plenty of YouTubers and Mumsnetters who will be able to identify what she wore and post details about it. It’s right they shift the focus to purpose rather than presentation.

StormingNorman · 02/02/2025 19:30

The palace doesn’t have to release details. There is an army of bloggers dedicated to tracking down her outfits. I imagine this will change nothing.

IcedPurple · 02/02/2025 19:39

I thought KP made an announcement along these lines a few years ago?

lol’ing at Nicola Sturgeon, fashion icon 🤣🤣

ThatAvidViewer · 02/02/2025 19:56

This is old news. No idea why Roya from the Times is saying this is a exclusive when Palace haven been doing this from 2022. It didn't help very much because media still focus on what she is wearing or how much it costs. And if she rewears they concentrate on the fact that she rewore her clothes instead of why she was at that charity in the first place.

That already happens. See the pearl necklace she wore to the Holocaust event. I’m sure they will continue to feed information like this to the media through the usual back channels, it’s just they want to shift the emphasis.

PrettyFlyforaMaiTai · 02/02/2025 20:14

Old news, this was announced in 2022! People and outlets will easily find out what designers and high street clothes she is wearing if they really want to know, KP is just saying they aren’t going to release the details themselves any more. No biggie!

And if she rewears them with shorter in between times.

Am surprised it took them this long to realise she is not a mannequin. Even more surprised that they used to give the press details of what's she was wearing. I mean, just why?

vandel · 02/02/2025 20:24

She should take to wearing an abaya or similar all in one overdress. Make it her signature outfit. I'm obviously not being too serious, but it's the only way the focus will disappear from her choice of clothing.

Overtheatlantic · 02/02/2025 21:05

All royal women get the same treatment.

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 02/02/2025 21:59

As far as I can tell, Queen Camilla is quite happy for BP to spill the beans on her sparkly bits and designer togs. Rather than have her being a 'Copy Kate', I would quite like it if she had BP announce that she was wearing a navy trouser suit from Next that she got in the sale or maybe something she rustled up on her own sewing machine.

Kinkyroots · 02/02/2025 22:03

But she doesn’t work? Not in a shifts/on your feet/9-5 churning reports/digging roads/ teaching kids and all that goes with that? She appears at things to give her name to whatever it is. Work. FFS bloody ridiculous

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 02/02/2025 22:09

Maybe it's a convoluted way of making people more interested in what she's wearing?

HappySmurfs · 02/02/2025 22:13

What work?

I came here to say the same was announced at the end of 2023 too.

I think if this is real, Kate will need to adopt some sort of work wardrobe. Interchangeable pieces worn regularly to the point it is not news to comment on them.

If she follows the Princess Anne example - turning up to lots of stuff in clothes we’ve seen before for years then it does become about the work.

I’ll miss her seeing her on trend fashion choices though.
