Focus to be on Kate's work not her outfits

Kensington Palace has announced they will no longer be releasing details on Kate's outfits but the focus will be on her work. Not sure about this as journalists are still going to write about her outfits. But I cam see why they are doing it.

@winfongdown Didn't J Crew basically get a massive boost because Michelle Obama was always wearing them?

This isn't new news - the palace announced it years ago and those blogs like whatkatewore often say what a piece is and then go back and retract it becuase they didn't get an official memo and so had the wrong thing.

I absolutely LOVE a bit of royal fashion watching but I'm quite happy to purposefully choose to go look at the fashion pages or to a dedicated website to get that info. It's ridiculous that when she's at a children's hospice mainstream media are focusing on what she wears. Plus the double standard of men vs women is infuriating. I'm already terrified for Charlotte and what's going to happent to her with this level of obsession for girls/women, the more so the closer they are to the "main family".

Good idea but will very much be led by her own choices. If she can become a re-wearer of a smaller, less conspicuous, wardrobe then good for her. Or, she can continue to make her clothes the story and fly the flag for uk designers. Ultimately it will be down to her to choose a path and then follow it. What she can’t do is have it both ways.

It’s not saying she’s not going to fly the flag for British designers or make sartorial choices which support the engagements she’s going to. For example the pearls she wore to the Holocaust Memorial Day were from a Jewish owned business.

The point is the communications office don’t need to release a press report focusing on her clothes - they can focus on the people or charity that is being promoted. Anyone interested in the fashion can rely on the numerous fashion blogs around.

I wish she would wear charity shop
a belt / a clutch T-shirt or bag here and there would be really helpful and green

I’m here for that. I love fashion and feel a bit sad at the thought of the possible demise of the high end industry designers but the fashion industry as a whole is one of the major contributors to the climate crisis.

As for Michelle Obama didn't we hear non stop about her arms? 😂

Yes, it was manufactured outrage at the First Lady baring her arms. That’s what was said anyway. I think the outrage was as always about something else because when Melania bared her arms it suddenly wasn’t a problem.

CathyorClaire · 03/02/2025 20:56

the focus will be on her work.

That strikes me as a triumph of hope over experience.

This announcement was already made 2 years ago. Interesting how the media brought that back up now, after Kate's been mostly off duty for a year knowing how most people would react

on her work?
So the articles about her are going to be a lot shorter then?

Love this!

CurlewKate · 08/02/2025 11:19

I would put money on there being more coverage if she wore something from Next than if she wore another Anya Hindmarch. Look at all the fuss when she "recycles" an outfit aka "wears something more than once."🤣

It’s quite offensive that it’s called ‘Work’.

A good first step in the shifting of focus would be for her to do some work.

It is, but I suppose calling it ‘waving and smiling and occasionally reading a speech someone else has researched and written, and which has been carefully vetted by the palace’ might make people think about whether royal robots wouldn’t be cheaper and just as effective.

Everything remains exactly the same. They haven't shared any details about her clothing since 2022, so there’s no change in that. Roya from The Times just recycled old news and added 'exclusive' to her story.

Kate visited a prison yesterday to see how one of her charities was helping in a mother and baby unit. I expect she's now off for half term but she's done well so far in 2025.

I agree. It's really positive that she's out and about so much already this year. She must be feeling a lot better.

You must have very little imagination to think that!

Any public appearance where you are scrutinised to the nth degree and must be completely prepared etc etc is demanding, to say the least. Whenever I had to do public-facing, on-my-best-behaviour-tasks for hours on end I was always shattered afterwards. It's the strain - and not everyone is an extrovert people-person, and if you're not (like me) then it's super-stressful.

Work takes different forms. For some, it's sitting in front of a computer thinking and possibly creating - hardly moving a muscle. For others it's digging holes. It's all work! Don't be daft. It's her job.
