Focus to be on Kate's work not her outfits

Kensington Palace has announced they will no longer be releasing details on Kate's outfits but the focus will be on her work. Not sure about this as journalists are still going to write about her outfits. But I cam see why they are doing it.

I wish maybe they could have her wear small independent designers and makers from the UK, instead of wearing high street or high fashion. And then report on it, to give those designers some exposure.

It was literally the only thing I liked about Nicola Sturgeon. She wore a lot of small independent, hand made clothing items by Scottish designers and said she did it because if press were going to write about what she wore then she could at least get exposure for small businesses in Scotland.

😂😂😂😂😂😂Orange is the new black !

She should take to wearing an abaya or similar all in one overdress. Make it her signature outfit. I'm obviously not being too serious, but it's the only way the focus will disappear from her choice of clothing.

I was going to suggest a royal uniform they all wore to public events. A nice unisex jumpsuit with their titles embroidered on the breast pocket.,

wipeywipe · 03/02/2025 00:43

Has she had enough of coat dresses?!

Hahahaha

Fashion journos are quite able to identify where most clothes come from so I don’t think it will mean a lack of DM articles banging on about how she’s leading the way in trouser suits or whatever

Or walking in Diana's footsteps because she wore a blue dress
Cue DM article side by side photo of them both dressed in blue etc.

Supersimkin7 · 03/02/2025 01:14

Kate’s dresses work harder than she ever will to boost the UK’s profile.

Miaow, me, but she can’t insist that she ‘had no constitutional role’ and is ‘focusing on the family’ one minute then claim she’s a serious public figure the next.

As it happens Michelle Obama or Mrs Gates wouldn’t give two hoots for a clothes caption: their world-class work speaks for itself.

I thought KP made an announcement along these lines a few years ago?

They did. The Royal Family appear to be doing so little these days that they constantly reannounce things.

wordler · 03/02/2025 03:11

This wasn't a new 'announcement' by the royal family. I assume it was probably a response to someone from the press requesting clothes details from the press office and they have replied that they don't do that anymore.

Compare the briefing notes released to the press for engagements by William and Kate - you don't get an addendum for William with a list of where his socks, tie and shirt are from. It's inappropriate for those details to be automatically included for Kate.

She's trying to get the press to focus on the children's hospice centre and there are journalists ringing the press office to see where her shoes are from?

It makes sense in the current decade not to treat women at work differently from men. Also, it's not needed from the official source - there are many blogs dedicated to identifying every single item of clothing within minutes of an engagement - see whatkatewore.com - so the designers don't lose out when there's no official statement.

Even the DM readers who are usually incredibly sycophantic are not happy about this!

Seriously, DM readers hate everything and anything—who cares what they think? Like I said earlier, this is old news. They haven’t released details about what she’s wearing since 2022.

Greygreencheckswithblue · 03/02/2025 08:53

Is this the only “reform” we are getting?

🙄

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 03/02/2025 09:19

Will KP be throwing a bone to us plebeians by keeping us up to date on William's 'shackets' instead?

Samcro · 03/02/2025 09:33

if this is a fact its odd. Kate isn't like Anne/Sophie who just get on with it.
her clothes are what people seem to talk about most.

DappledThings · 03/02/2025 09:36

I had no idea information about clothes was ever released. In as much as I've ever thought about it I assumed anyone interested knew loads about different designers and researched it.

I saw a collage recently of her at the last 10 Rememberance Sundays. A different black coat every time. Completely ridiculous. There's no way she needs a new one every year or even every decade.

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 03/02/2025 09:54

The late queen seemed more consistent in her messaging. Perhaps there's a high PR staff turnover at KP and everyone has a different idea about how to 'package' them and which aspects to emphasise and promote.

They are doing exactly the same with them. There are many articles about what they are wearing. Only difference is that nobody cares about them.

DownThePubWithStevieNicks · 03/02/2025 09:56

Good old Royal Family, single-handedly keeping the fashion, tourism, and sex trafficking industries going.

I wish she would wear charity shop
a belt / a clutch T-shirt or bag here and there would be really helpful and green

How often do you see the ex Mrs Gates in public photos?

winfongdown · 03/02/2025 10:49

As for Michelle Obama didn't we hear non stop about her arms? 😂

Ohpleeeease · 03/02/2025 10:59

Sophie’s fashion has had some attention recently - that lady loves her leather!

Onlyonekenobe · 03/02/2025 16:37

I did think re the "substance over style" comment, what substance? Isn't style literally her substance? What else is there? Her main achievement (which isn't nothing) has been to marry and remain married to William, in that fish bowl, and have birthed the next generation all while looking well turned out and keeping her opinions to herself. What other substance is there Confused?

vandel · 03/02/2025 16:41

She is and always will be the uninspiring trailing spouse of a lazy git. The clothes are irrelevant when you realise this.

WhoStoleYourHighHorse · 03/02/2025 16:43

Good idea but will very much be led by her own choices. If she can become a re-wearer of a smaller, less conspicuous, wardrobe then good for her. Or, she can continue to make her clothes the story and fly the flag for uk designers. Ultimately it will be down to her to choose a path and then follow it. What she can’t do is have it both ways.

WattleTyler · 03/02/2025 16:46

Her work. Don’t make me laugh. What work?

She’s just a show pony. Her clothes are the most interesting thing about her, and they’re boring.
