The baby is a girl and has been born prematurely weighing 4lbs. She is said to be healthy and doing well.

She is called Athena Elizabeth Rose.

Funny the sisters each had 2 of the same sex.
DSis and I were the same, and we find it really sweet. The cousins are very close.

It is nice to see Bea's DSS being part of the wider family.

They used Elizabeth as the middle name for the older daughter too - they really want to keep that connection to the late Queen!

She'd have been told a definitely not if she'd asked on baby names can she have two with the same middle name Grin

paranoiaofpufflings · 30/01/2025 10:24

@RitaFromTheRanch That was exactly what I thought when I saw the name 😂

I wonder if her name will be shortened to Thee (soft TH). Sounding more like Fee, and rhyming with Bea. Does Sienna also get Si (sounds like See)?

Ignore mee.

Edited

Thee and See sound very possible to me.

I hadn't even realised Eugenie had had a second.

Funny the sisters each had 2 of the same sex.

Wonder if either will have a 3rd?

Zara did.

I'm assuming Athena will continue its rise up the baby name charts.

'I'm assuming Athena will continue its rise up the baby name charts.'

Takes me back to Clarrie Grundy's William being born.

HouseAshamed · 30/01/2025 11:30

They might. Their cousins William and Zara did. The King and is siblings had 2 each.

Love this news.

Lostinidea · 30/01/2025 12:44

@PigeonDress Aww thanks, I thought so too. Fergie has had her fair share of criticism over the years and admittedly not all of it undue, but she always strike me as a thoroughly good egg. I would imagine she is a brilliantly fun granny too.

It looks like they also view Edo's son Wolfie as being their grandson too, which is lovely when you read so often on here about the times grandparents favourite their "real" grandkids.

What is a 'GiGi'? Trying to fit the initials with any known variant of 'grandmother' assuming that's what Fergie means, and can't.

I'd guess it's what her grandchildren call her. The same way the late Queens grandkids used to call her gan gan I believe.

I am putting my money on Athena being called Hen. Very Mitford!

How do you get Hen from Athena?

They were Hons not Hens

Jessica and Deborah Mitford called each other Hen as they both loved keeping chickens.

And Athena - it’s right there in the word itself.😀

HouseAshamed · 30/01/2025 15:40

My friend calls everyone Hen. In the north midlands everyone is Duck. In Lanashire, you get called Cock.

Hen from Athena is quite a stretch.

Yes but you don't hear "Hen" when you say it.
"A - theen - a"
not
"At - hen - a"

CurlewKate · 30/01/2025 15:59

I had two absolutely enormous babies- DS was 2.5 times bigger than this little one. She must be so dinky!

Thanks for assuming I don’t know how to pronounce Athena 🤣

Nicknames aren’t based just on how you pronounce a name tough. Otherwise, how did Harry come to be called H by Meghan though when you don’t hear H when you say his name ? Or Harold by his brother?

William was called Wombat by his parents as a family nickname, Louis is Lou-bug and QEII was Cabbage. Cutesy references to animals are very common as family nicknames, partiuclarly posh families, hence why I suggested Hen.

jeffgoldblum · 30/01/2025 16:21

Don't bother @Serenster , lots of nitpicking today!

Needmorelego · 30/01/2025 16:23

@Serenster yes but randomly coming up with "Hen" as a nickname didn't really jump out at me just because the letters H E N are in the middle of the name.

Needmorelego · 30/01/2025 16:24

jeffgoldblum · 30/01/2025 16:21

Apologies but I wasn't nit-picking.
It was more of a "huh?" moment. I just didn't see the connection between the name Athena and the name Hen.
That's all.

Serenster · 30/01/2025 16:24

Well, it did to me and made me think of the Mitfords and upper class family nicknames. 😀

Needmorelego · 30/01/2025 16:27

@Serenster that's ok.
I don't know any upper class families personally so I wouldn't know what these families call each other at home 🙂
