The baby is a girl and has been born prematurely weighing 4lbs. She is said to be healthy and doing well.

She is called Athena Elizabeth Rose.

As it's taken a week to announce the birth, I imagine there may have been some initial concerns.

I wish them well.

(DS was born at 36.3 and was 7lb 5oz!).

You're welcome 👌

bless you cant let this go.
Have these flowers 💐as a peace offer and move on.

dumpydumpydumpdump · 29/01/2025 20:08

I suspect they wanted to get home and be on an even keel before going public. She was advised not to go to Italy for Christmas by her doctors so clearly some concern a few weeks ago.

I also think they likely wouldn't have issued a photo if she'd been born nearer term and announced same day. This is being done because of the delay so they want to give assurance baby is doing well, no causes concern etc but also not post too intimate a picture.

It's me that can't let it go? 😂 I was just saying you were welcome, after you thanked me. There was no need to reply.

Its mumsnet its rude not to reply to a message as we read on a lot of threads lol.

I agree. Like others have said I normally roll my eyes when famous people only show a picture of their babies foot or a full face shot with emojis over their face but the picture they released of Athena with her little arms over her face, almost like she's saying "no photos please" really made me smile.

On a different note PP were pondering what they might shorten her name to, Thea perhaps?

TroysMammy · 29/01/2025 20:18

You can always tell those new to Mumsnet. They have a negative opinion on many topics. They can't wait to spew out their nastiness and then they'll start to get their comments deleted. Pathetic people with sad unfulfilled lives.

WhoStoleYourHighHorse · 29/01/2025 20:23

Lovely news and very lovely names.

Lovely news and very lovely names.

I agree (and am secretly pleased that just as Eug had 2 of the same, Bea has too, and that she has lovely red hair)

MrsLeonFarrell · 29/01/2025 21:27

I like the photo, all babies (except mine of course!) look the same to me so I'm not fussed about faces but I like the colour combination of her hair and the blanket. Reminds me of a beautiful sunset.

Thedom · 29/01/2025 21:52

Petite little girl, both her daughters have lovely names, very refined and tasteful.

HappyNewYou · 29/01/2025 22:42

What a beautiful name!

upinaballoon · 29/01/2025 22:44

Well, if Ethel could be shortened to Eth I suppose Athena can become Ath.

(Oww, Ron. Yes, Eth?)

Women have babies every day. There's nothing strange about it. But even in 2025, with our modern operations and transfusions et cetera, it's always good to know that a baby has come safely into the world, 'trailing clouds of glory', and that the mother is doing well.

Hants123 · 29/01/2025 23:45

They've said that she came several weeks early which must have been scary, great to hear that she's home and doing well.

Jacquette · 30/01/2025 01:59

JSMill · 29/01/2025 17:57

It's quite difficult to shorten it. Maybe that's why she picked it. My mum had a lovely name but people always shortened, which she hated so she picked names for me and db which almost impossible to shorten.
I hope mum and baby are doing well. It must be a bit scary having such a tiny baby.

I wonder if her name will be shortened to Thee (soft TH). Sounding more like Fee, and rhyming with Bea. Does Sienna also get Si (sounds like See)?

Ignore mee.

Dustyblue · 30/01/2025 02:15

She is a small wee thing! Mine was 5lb 15oz at 38+6 and we had to rush around getting smaller newborn clothes for him. I'm in Australia, so that means size 0000 instead of 000.

So long as she's healthy. Being born small means they have to be fed more frequently, great fun, although I imagine Beatrice has a 24/7 Nanny on hand.

If she's breastfeeding that won't matter much... no sleep for you!

GildedRage · 30/01/2025 02:38

what amazes me is that she was in london at the c&w for a whole week and not a peep of anyone seeing beatrice without a belly while getting a tea or biscuit, although i would notice edoardo and think (i've seen that face somewhere) i might not think much of him being in london.
i'm so happy to hear a new addition to the world has safely arrived.
the news i read suggested she was told that she could go into labor early hence the change in christmas plans.

Meredusoleil · 30/01/2025 02:52

paranoiaofpufflings · 29/01/2025 16:06

They used Elizabeth as the middle name for the older daughter too - they really want to keep that connection to the late Queen!

That's exactly what I said to dh!

Love the name Athena. So pretty. Although they have gone with Greek this time compared to Italian with Sienna. They should have picked Aurelia or Aurora to keep the Italian theme going 😉

So now Andy and Fergie have 2 grandsons from Eugenie (August and Ernest) and 2 granddaughters from Beatrice. Its a perfect combo 👌

It shows that people will respect privacy and it is perfectly possible to live life under the radar however famous you are. I'm glad they had time to process and celebrate before anyone found out.

HouseAshamed · 30/01/2025 08:26

@Meredusoleil ,Sienna isn't really Italian, and Aurelia and Aurora aren't very nice.

The Athenas I know are Tia and Tani.

PigglyWigglyOhYeah · 29/01/2025 17:09

I assume you say this to all your friends, family, and acquaintances on announcement of their own arrivals. Do you write it in cards for work colleagues?

But she isn't a friend or acquaintance or even a working royal. If there is such a thing.

unmemorableusername · 30/01/2025 09:04

I hadn't even realised Eugenie had had a second.

Funny the sisters each had 2 of the same sex.

Wonder if either will have a 3rd?

Zara did.

I'm assuming Athena will continue its rise up the baby name charts.

It looks like they also view Edo's son Wolfie as being their grandson too, which is lovely when you read so often on here about the times grandparents favourite their "real" grandkids.
