Meghan and Harry have released a statement in regards to the California wildfire via their Sussex.com website.

It reads:

”In the last few days, wildfires in Southern California have raged through neighborhoods and devastated families, homes, schools, medical care centers, and so much more – affecting tens of thousands from all walks of life.
A state of emergency has been issued.
If you feel compelled to help, here are some resources and ideas:
Support
Organizations such as José Andrés’ World Central Kitchen, which has been a longtime partner of The Archewell Foundation, are serving meals to both first responders and victims of the fire.
CAL FIRE and LA Fire Department Foundation and others are working closely to support firefighters who risk their lives, bravely showing up in these high-risk environments to help save homes, families, and communities in need.
Animal Wellness Foundation is continuing to house and care for animals evacuated by the fires while Compton Cowboys is providing emergency transportation services for horses.
Airbnb and 211LA have partnered to provide free, temporary housing for those who have been displaced.

Baby2baby is providing essential supplies including diapers, clothing, hygiene products, and emergency kits to families in need.
All Power Books and many others are staying open for emergency use, offering supplies and water for pickup while working tirelessly to distribute essentials to those affected.

Open your home
If a friend, loved one, or pet has to evacuate and you are able to offer them a safe haven in your home, please do. And be sure to check in with any disabled or elderly neighbors to see if they need help evacuating.
Give back
Some families and people have been left with nothing. Please consider donating clothing, children’s toys & clothing, and other essentials. The American Red Cross is on the ground helping those in need.”

Helping animals helps us all.

Non-profit organization leading in animal rescue, animal protection and awareness; and low-cost medical care. Adopt, volunteer and foster opportunities available!

Harry is not " local" to this area. He has travelled 111 miles to get there. No one needs celebrity grief vultures.

111 miles is nothing in a US context

itsstillmehere · 11/01/2025 11:49

Avoiding 3 of the bigger areas on the way?

itsstillmehere · 11/01/2025 11:52

"
What is so wrong about him bringing those skills to a local disaster? I am sure he is better at it than most! "

Maybe he can use his hands to outline the shape of a house to them or suggest they give a name to their missing house.

IAmATorturedPoet · 11/01/2025 11:54

@Serenster I’m hoping those images aren’t what they look like because 😱.

spanieleyes · 11/01/2025 11:54

Passing the Kenneth fire, the Hearst fire and the Palisades fire on the way!
My friend lives in Westlake Village. the local church, like many, is organising collection of supplies, food and clothing for those hit by the devastation. She is going there to help, not driving down to Pasedena. That's what most people would do.

Wheresthebeach · 11/01/2025 12:24

elessar · 11/01/2025 11:06

That's awful.

I mean what's the actual purpose of them being there? The fires don't need celebrity presence to raise awareness - it's global headline news anyway. So the only purpose of them being there is for their own profile, which is pretty gross.

I'm not seeing other celebrities doing this sort of thing, which tells you everything you need to know.

They are obsessed with self promotion.

itsstillmehere · 11/01/2025 12:42

Meghan looks very jittery in those videos from Pasadena grabbing at people and pushing at others. It's all very bizarre.

NotaRealHousewife · 11/01/2025 12:45

They could very well be genuine but for reasons I can't put my finger on the whole visit made me cringe

She properly is aware that all of the images are going to appear in tabloid newspapers and on sm accompanied by comments saying what a b*h she is. I’d be shaky in those circumstances too.

spanieleyes · 11/01/2025 12:56

Then maybe she should have stayed at home.

I rarely post on here, I have a " historical" interest in the Royal Family and am probably a little anti- Meghan but not rabidly so. But, for some reason, this has really pissed me off! Starting with the " From the Office of " statement to the cameras and hugs, it just all seems to be feeding on the grief and despair of others.
I think I shall back away or I fear I will start fizzing!

If thinking about what random strangers might say about her is causing her distress, then maybe public life isn't for her.

itsstillmehere · 11/01/2025 13:00

@Mulchadoaboutnothing12 what is she bringing to the situation though?

itsstillmehere · 11/01/2025 13:15

IAmATorturedPoet · 11/01/2025 13:17

If the thought of photos/tabloids/commentary were making her jittery then why go? there are many other more inconspicuous options available to her (she listed them in her statement ). Nobody made her go, she didn’t need to drive 100 miles. This was their choice so 🤷‍♀️.

itsstillmehere · 11/01/2025 13:21

It's her imposter syndrome breaking through.

I know. They are such utter hypocrites.

CurlewKate · 11/01/2025 13:35

I suppose it could be relevant that Pasadena is the location of one of the 4 sites where World Community Kitchen is distributing meals?

IAmATorturedPoet · 11/01/2025 13:39

Oops my last post was in reply to @Mulchadoaboutnothing12 - I forgot to include the quote 🤦‍♀️

BemusedAmerican · 11/01/2025 13:40

Back in 2001, we were asked to stay out of NYC below 14th street, unless we lived or worked in the area, to facilitate the Twin Towers recovery efforts. This kept out tourists and allowed people to clean up. The air down there was also very toxic.

I saw a video yesterday where the announcer stated that H & M had alerted the media thst they had requested a tour. The LA government officials should have said no. H & M are wasting the time of people who are dealing with an ongoing fire situation. They should be home, donating money like other celebrities, and not forcing city officials to deal with them and their entourage.

In addition, if they were really concerned about their safety, they would not be running around an area filled with very toxic air. I had to wear a mask for a week when we got the smoke from the Canadian wildfires. I'm not in California, but I'm sure the air quality is bad.

People are dead. Whole neighborhoods are destroyed. I'm trying not to think about the wildlife. Yet these two are once again making it all about them.

itsstillmehere · 11/01/2025 11:35

And mixing with the common people.

"The interaction was broadcast live on Fox News, with news anchor Susan Hirasuna later being slammed online for describing Meghan as 'Princess Markle'. She also received criticism for saying Meghan was 'hanging out with the commoners'. "

We're the commoners forelock tugging and cap doffing? 😂

Thanks.I didnt make it up honest. Sarah Vine called them the pound shop royals in an article in the DM a few months ago. Got to laugh at Princess Markle. Even dafter than Duchess Meghan.

BemusedAmerican · 11/01/2025 13:47

I saw the Fox News clip. The announcer did use the term " commoners".

If they really wanted to help World Kitchen, they would hand them cash for supplies, tie on aprons, and start chopping veggies.

It's still the furthest away from where they live 🤷‍♀️

Baital · 11/01/2025 13:51

I was in Cape Town when a wildfire on Table Mountain couldn't be controlled, and 15,000 people list their homes - mostly informal buildings.

Various organisations - government and nonprofit - put out requests for items for the firefighters and those who had lost everything. There were collection points all over the city. People were asked not to travel to the affected areas, because the ladt thing the agencies with the expertise required was to be stuck in a traffic jam behind lots of grief vultures.

All fire stations in the city, for example, would take the donations and take them in bulk to be sorted and distributed.

There were established agencies - police, elected representatives, the city Disaster Management team etc - who had the expertise and working relationships and framework to track the situation and respond. The best thing the well meaning public can do is respond to their requests and not get in their way.

I slightly knew someone who worked in the Disaster Management team, it was interesting listening to him. Apparently there were 42 identified potential major disasters, including wildfire, aircraft crash at the airport, the nuclear power station up the road melting down etc.

The local agencies (police, fire etc) were responsible for the immediate/emergency response, they have the local knowledge and relationships. The Disaster management team were expected to be up to speed and leading the response 24-48 hours after the start of the crisis, at which point sleep deprivation will be kicking in with the local responders, and their decision making would impaired.

Isn't that why the RF (and government ministers etc) don't turn up in the immediate aftermath of a crisis?

CurlewKate · 11/01/2025 13:35

They drove past other World Central Kitchen sites that were much closer to Montecito to get to Pasadena, so that doesn’t seem a likely motivation.

CurlewKate · 11/01/2025 13:54

@itsstillmehere "It's still the furthest away from where they live"

Is it? Fair enough. I don't know much about LA geography.
