Montecito is about 100 miles away from Pasadena, where Harry and Meghan went. To get there they also have to drive right through the fire-ravaged communities at Pacific Palisades and Malibu.
Having been personally involved in local efforts to help in the aftermath of humanitarian crises (the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the 2023 Turkish earthquakes) I know from experience that there is a tonne of tasks to be done locally. Meghan and Harry announced they’d donated clothes and other items - those donations all need to be collected, sorted and packed up for transportation (you have no idea of the ridiculous stuff that people “donate” to an emergency - they treat it as a chance to clear their house of anything they don’t want irrespective of its purpose, condition or cleanliness!). The same is true of food banks - there is loads of logistical efforts involved in getting he food sorted and transported from a local hub to a distribution centre.
I commend Harry and Meghan for wanting to help out. I just wonder what took them all the way down the Pacific Highway to Pasadena, driving past a devastated community to do so, other than the desire to hug impacted residents and demonstrate their compassion on camera. There are so many other ways they could have helped locally without looking like they are using the devastated residents of Pasadena as props.
