I thought he'd sneaked off to the middle east at one point but maybe I have that wrong

You're not wrong exactly, @Extiainoiapeial ; there was definitely some talk about him going to live there, but as so often a lot was speculation rather than coming from him directly IYSWIM

So faux royal tours like the other pair get labelled as doing. Why aren't the same people commenting on these I wonder. Why is the purpose, why are they going? Who is paying for them? Why expertise do they have to be talking at an economical forum...blah blah blah

oh believe me, I wonder a lot about the point of any of them.
From chief parasite down I am baffled that people actively seek their opinion on anything and the fact that they are lauded and showered in privelige makes me furious.
The lot of them

Yes indeed. They are all over the middle east like a rash, and speaking at the World Economic Forum is quite gobsmacking.

I think there is far more to this than meets the eye but of course they are protected under the Royal umbrella and need to keep dear daddy topped up with cash.
Beatrice in particular is on a lot of advisory committees, various Boards, and has set up a company called BY-EQ 'adding emotional intelligence to artificial intelligence'. I thought she worked for a Tech firm. Fingers in lots of pies I presume....

MrsLeonFarrell · 03/03/2025 17:04

I believe that Eugenie, Sarah, and to some extent, Andrew get away with it because the tabloids aren't that interested in ethics. They want conflict, manufactured or real, to generate clicks.

Agree, if tomorrow your family was only one left on earth, you could decide you are royals of the world lol that's how stupid it all is. It's so outdated harking back centuries from the time someone declared themselves powerful enough to do so.

True, end of the day it ultimately makes those people feel better about themselves and their lives by being negative about others. Ohhh look at her, thank god I'm not that embarrassing.

It's more exciting then what Andrew and his girls get up to.

Extiainoiapeial · 03/03/2025 18:05

I so agree.@MrsLeonFarrell But but but... if the public knew the true extent of how certain members of the royal family use their connections to make a lot of money for themselves, it might be very different, but luckily (for them) the tabloids stay away. And of course they have harry and meghan to take the flack and provide clickbaits.

Yes and I really do hope that the more serious papers look into it. I'm a constitutional monarchist as I've said before but I believe that the system needs to fix the flaws that are gradually being talked about since the late Queen died.

I am totally with you on this. I am not what I would call a Republican because I know nothing will change for generations.I am realistic. So I accept what we have got with a big proviso.
Transparency on oh so many parts of the Monarchy. It really has to change.

but WHY.
WHY do the press not want to call them out.

I think there is something to what Harry said about how they Palace have a deal with the press. I believe it because how else do you explain it.

but again, what's in it for the press?
Surely nobody buys a paper these days because it has a picture of Kate grinning manically at some cornered 4 year olds so why not dish the dirt and get a big surge in readership?
It could be like the MPO expenses scandal with a new thing everyday. I bought the Telegraph every day when that was going on!

The Royal Rota are basically sycophants, otherwise they don't get access. I would imagine all of the Royals are covered by the " Dont talk about this or you won't be invited to tea etc.

Oh , wouldn't that be marvellous if no press took pictures or interviewed them.
First step in my fantasy of them turning up places and being ignored.

They got to be anointed royals (see latest coronation) by having ancestors being better at patching deals, killing and land grabs than any other local warlord.

'Gangs Of London' on horses.

CathyorClaire · 03/03/2025 20:59

Some sections of the press very admirably
do.

The more pressing questions are why nobody seems to want to listen and why the stuff that does come to light then sinks like a lead ballooon.

This is how I see it too.

Ha! ‘gangs of London on horses’ is a good description of their ancestors.

The Royal Rota aren't a set group of journalists. It's a rotating group as covering the royals is shared among different media. They always get spoken of as a homogeneous group but that isn't accurate.

Extiainoiapeial · 04/03/2025 07:08

Yes, they work for different media but are quite happy to make up anything to make the royal family look good, like negative comments in an interview on the Oprah programme that they hadn't even watched!

The RR/Royal reporters are just sycophants

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 04/03/2025 07:21

I’m not so sure about the sycophantic thing. IMO they are sitting tight on stuff and then one day it will blow up when they have enough. Think it was one of the papers that in the words iof Eliza Doolittle ‘did him in’ ie exposed Andrew. I’m quite prepared to be wrong though so happy to be corrected.

I very much disagree with this.
They have more than enough to start digging or to just report what is already going on especially in regards to shady money deals.
If they were going to do it tyhey could have by now.
we need someone who really loathes the institution to be a big shot in the media, trouble is a lot of editors etc. still look to get new year honours etc.

CaptBirdsEar · 04/03/2025 07:44

I'm so over the RF since Lizzie died - they are all superfluous imho.

Extiainoiapeial · 04/03/2025 07:55

Yes, I think royal reporters may be sitting tight on stuff they know and would not be reporting it because they value their position too much. And the royals want to tightly control their image, they need the media, but only positive media 😂

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 04/03/2025 08:07

good point about the honours thing.

I still think they sit on stuff until there is enough to do an exposé (?) I’m not saying that’s necessarily right though!

Oh, the donkey rescue and rehab. I watched that finally - only about a month or so ago. 😂😂
