With the exection of Sophis in blue and B's husband, I'm sorry but the Royals look ill and sad. It's a shame.

Dully dressed? It's coats on for a chilly walk to a formal Christmas Day church service. They're going to be photographed, so I think how they're dressed is very appropriate.

MinnieCauldwell · 27/12/2024 09:32

I do think the children should have been taken home after the service, to play with their presents, like all kids want to do on Christmas morning. They should not be expected to do the 'grab and grin for needy random adults.

MerryMaker · 27/12/2024 09:34

Yes dully dressed. Kate wore a lovely tartan court a few years ago that was bright but smart. Smart coats can still be more exciting than the coats worn on the Christmas Day walk.

PoppysAunt · 27/12/2024 09:35

Well, at least the coats were neat, classic and fitted well. I hate sloppy dressing.

I’d hate to have to go through that palaver every Christmas morning. If I did, I’d look a bloody sight rougher than that lot.
look alright to me 🤷‍♀️
Why would you look rougher than someone who has cancer? Are you a heavy drinker

😂 has been known on occasion but generally no. Just your average 60 year old who doesn’t have dressers and people to do my hair or make up. Wouldn’t appreciate having to get up at the crack of dawn on Christmas morning.
Incidentally, when I did have cancer in 2016 I didn’t look unwell at all.

They do not go to church at the crack of dawn, just an ordinary time. Kate obviously has her hair done and that will take time, the rest just look to have done their hair as much as I do when going out the house i.e. shower and blow dry my hair. Its not that big a palaver, especially with staff to help.

MrsSkylerWhite · 27/12/2024 10:05

Each to their own. Blow drying hair on Christmas morning would be a palaver to me.
As I said, originally, they all look fine to me.

BestBeforeddmmyy · 27/12/2024 10:16

Dunno who Sophis is. Dunno who B is, let alone their husband.

I mean I don’t know if we are allowed to ask but is Charles winding back on engagements until he’s 100% ?

I imagine if he's been having treatment consistently for over 12 months rather than with breaks in between, it is really to keep the cancer under control and not a cure. Without knowing the type of cancer it's difficult to say but I suspect Charles being 100% is unlikely. He has announced other overseas trips so it seems that having waited his entire life to inherit the role he wants to make the most of it.

I think he's looking as well as can be expected, some days better than others, which might be because of where he is in his chemo cycle.

JustAnotherDadOf2 · 27/12/2024 11:31

Yep, cancer and advanced age will do that to you.

I think they look fine. But their coats are dowdy. I have a shower every day and blow dry my hair. I thought most people did who cared at all about their appearance?

Havalona · 27/12/2024 14:14

So that's the obligatory Promenade done again for another year. How bloody performative and boring that pap walk looks. Like many others, I guess it is the only day of the year apart from weddings and funerals that they go to church anyway.

We won't see them again until Easter.

That walk is so worth it to them isnt it? Job done now were free for a while, happy days!.

MerryMaker · 27/12/2024 14:31

@Havalona I thought William hinted it would no longer happen when he was King?

Serenster · 27/12/2024 14:47

Like many others, I guess it is the only day of the year apart from weddings and funerals that they go to church anyway.

Several members of the family had actually already attended the early morning service on Christmas Day before return to Sandringham and coming back for the 11am service.

Several members like Queen Elizabeth are active Christians. Charles wanted to be the defender of all faiths, and William said he is not terribly religious.

Where is Eugenie? I have just watched the footage and I don't think any of the main Royals look well or happy . Beatrice's husband looks chipper though. I couldn't see Anne either.

MerryMaker · 27/12/2024 15:05

I thought Eugenie was with her in laws

Anne was there in red. Apart from Charles and William the others didn't keep to the order of precedence that they did when the late Queen was alive so Anne was further back than she had been before.

Floralnomad · 27/12/2024 16:37

In the pictures I saw Anne was walking with Edward and her husband was just in front with Sophie and her daughter .

WinterCrow · 27/12/2024 17:21

I found a You Tube clip courtesy of Hello magazine of total whackjob behaviour in the Sandringham crowd. One man, while he was raising his voice and jabbing his finger at William (who remained implacable throughout, as did his family) attracted the attention of a uniformed policeman and plain clothes security, who were there in seconds to take a good hard look at him and that section of the union-flag-hatted crowd. The children were right there, between their parents.

Personally, I don't think this bonkersness should be encouraged, nor the children exposed to it. I hope William does put a stop to it, and says that the children can be seen outside the church for a few minutes milling about, but then put in a car - or at least walked straight up the middle of the path by older cousins or relatives like Louise and James, waving but without stopping. When they are a bit older they can choose to meet-and-greet up close and personal, or not.

I can't link the clip here, but you can find it if you search 'Royal Family in HIGH SPIRITS as they leave Sandringham HELLO! You Tube'.

It's on the clip from 3 minutes onwards. Go to 3.10 if you want to dive straight in.

boredashellbythiscrap · 27/12/2024 17:25

William won't put a stop to anything. Charles said he was having a slimmed down monarchy but he has changed nothing. What they actually say and what they do are two different things completely.

BestBeforeddmmyy · 27/12/2024 10:16

Dunno who Sophis is. Dunno who B is, let alone their husband.

I'm guessing Sophie who is now 'HRH the Duchess of Edinburgh', and Beatrice who is on the royal family website now as 'Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice, Mrs Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi', I shit you not.

Havalona · 27/12/2024 20:01

They managed to keep Andy away. Too bent to walk I suppose

I don’t care about my appearance, that’s where we differ. I bathe every day but my hair is neither here nor there (mostly literally 😂).

I’m glad we can both agree that they all look fine.

I am, probably but not absolutely sure, a republican but I wish them well. Cancer is a bummer.
