With the exection of Sophis in blue and B's husband, I'm sorry but the Royals look ill and sad. It's a shame.

I have a shower every day and blow dry my hair. I thought most people did who cared at all about their appearance?

Where do I start?

The billions of people of people on the planet who do not have secure, daily, affordable access to water and electricity, let alone the gadgets required?

People like me with ethnicities that mean our hair doesn't lend itself to daily blow-drying?

People who are unwell, or disabled, or otherwise incapacitated and unable to do these things daily, on their own?

People as above who would need a carer to assist but can't afford one, or for whom the state cannot provide such daily care?

People who are worn down, in shelters, homeless provisions, or deprived of access?

People who don't give a fuck, for all sorts of reasons?

Careful now, your faux superiority and prejudices are showing.

William won't put a stop to anything. Charles said he was having a slimmed down monarchy but he has changed nothing. What they actually say and what they do are two different things completely.

I think he did slim it down.

The problem is that we thought that meant less expensive.

What he actually meant was fewer people to do the “work” and keeping the money to himself.

BemusedAmerican · 28/12/2024 03:13

I thought everyone was happy that Charles wanted to stop funding Andrew's lavish life style! I don't think that's "keeping the money to himself".

Next year the RF should go to church in ugly Christmas sweaters and neon or pastel down jackets and Uggs.

Maybe next year the only ones doing the Christmas walk about is Charles, his children and grandchildren. So that makes 7 of them and he has no relationship with Harry. The rest of the hangers on should be left at home because if he was talking about a slimmed down monarchy it makes 7. With that their funding should be cut and maybe some of the palaces should be open to the public to generate income.

Thank you for this. You put your points really well. I hate that kind of "well this is what I do, surely everyone decent is the same?" myopic arrogance.

Or, perhaps, any family members who would like to attend a church service on Christmas Day do so. Most of the family attending church on Wednesday receive no public funding.

boredashellbythiscrap · 28/12/2024 08:20

They all benefit from the no inheritance tax rule which is set up in trust funds for them all. Anne's children live on her estate rent free so this crap about them not receiving public funding is rubbish but as usual the royalists take it as gospel. Why all the criticism of Harry then he receives no public funding and if he chooses to throw his family under the bus to earn a living so be it. The rest of them are living off tax payers and wouldn't survive in the real world as they have no marketable skills apart from being members of this family.

Harry's current court cases have cost the UK taxpayers over £600k (so far), and if he wins his case against the Home Office, he is looking for 24/7 taxpayer funded security.

I think people have been very unfair on you @fedup33.

When I saw the pictures in the Daily Fail
I thought they all look like they’ve been through a really hard year, which they have have. I think Charles looks very unwell and I think Catherine, and particularly William, have aged so much. It’s astonishing what stress and worry can do to a person and I was taken aback when I saw the photos too.

And no, I’m not a ghoul or a freak or any of the other extremely unkind insults meted out to you either, but I happen to agree with your points.

Serenster · 28/12/2024 09:55

Jusr to note, but absolutely anyone can set up a trust fund for their children / grandchildren. Money placed into the trust fund is then exempt from inheritance tax for them too.

CathyorClaire · 28/12/2024 10:46

What he actually meant was fewer people to do the “work” and keeping the money to himself.

Exactly right.

If we have to have them there should be a return to a fixed sum Civil List predicated on the number actually "working".

As for the Christmas pap walk, I haven't seen the pictures so have no opinion on how they looked. I'm just gobsmacked at the ever increasing wheeling on of less and less relevant extras and wondering why.

Notouchingmybhuna · 28/12/2024 11:50

I can’t believe that Beatrice’s step son is now paraded annually as part of the firm as well. I wonder what his mum thinks, or indeed if she has any say.

MrsLeonFarrell · 28/12/2024 11:52

I don't think describing people walking to their local church service on Christmas Day as a pap walk is fair. Pap walks are when celebrities ring the media in advance specifically so they can be photographed (if memory serves Kim Kardashian was usually in a car park). At least some of the royals go to church every Sunday they are at Sandringham so it's hardly sorting they do specifically for the press to photograph.

I wouldn't personally stand around watching but 🤷‍♀️

What message would it be sending if he was excluded when the rest of his cousins were there?

Is there any reason to think she wasn't asked about him accompanying his father to church?
Apart from a preference to think the worst of people, perhaps?

HelenWheels · 28/12/2024 15:59

or Lady Chatto's son, Samuel, and his girlfriend Eleanor also paraded

i expect mums are proud

I suggested washing and blow drying your hair before going to church is not quite the massive terrible job that was being suggested.

If that's all they are, where's the Canned Old Duke of York?

JustAnotherDadOf2 · 28/12/2024 17:53

waving and smiling, and walking for a living, who'd have thought there could be a career in that? Just imagine the questions and answers in the job interview were it not hereditary.
What are your strengths?
What are your weaknesses?
Where do you see yourself in 10yrs time?
Hohum...

@MerryMaker it wasn't your post I was commenting on - it was @WinterCrow who ran with it spinning it to include various aspects and concluding with privilege. She was having a go at your innocuous comment.
