I'm not overly a RF fan, but to me it's a photo of that day that was special to them this year, so will always be a double edged sword reminding them Kate had cancer but also she's cancer free which would likely have been their highlight of the year.
It's much more demure than a formal picture like the one in front of the Christmas tree up thread. It's also nice they're being informal and human with the wills Kate etc than the 'I'm so much better than you' bullshit from the Monteshit show clowns

This one!

That's a really weird photo. I may be wrong but didn't Diana hate horses? They look like they are advertising riding clothes.

And it isn't very Christmassy is it. Which isn't a criticism, royal cards are never very seasonal.

CurlewKate · 20/12/2024 08:47

@PigglyWigglyOhYeah
"Does their Christmas card require its own security team? That's what we're talking about. Does it need escorting down Kensington High Street to do its shopping, or perhaps you think it needs monitoring as it visits the local farm shop"

You said my contribution to the RF is £1pa. I was merely pointing out that it isn't.

myrtleWilson · 19/12/2024 17:35

Am bemused as to why wearing coats would make it more Christmassy?

Because it would be more seasonal.

By the time of that card, she loved riding ...... taught by James Hewitt, wasn't she?

I didn't realise that and I may be confusing her with Catherine who is allergic.

StormingNorman · 20/12/2024 09:51

Personally I’d like to see Charles, William and George dressed up at the three kings - school nativity style. Maybe a camel and a few palm trees in the background.

I don’t know tbh. Whoever was HoS would require security. I’m not sure whether their families would though.

Well, as your tax payer contribution is about £1 per annum for the whole royal family, I imagine 'not much' is the answer.

You really think this bunch costs just £60million a year? Seemingly we’re giving billionaire Champagne Charlie nearly half a million just to do up his house!
If forelock tuggers are happy with this then let them pay my share.
This whole royal debacle should be done away with now.

Not2identifying · 20/12/2024 10:51

@Gall10 Presumably you're referring to Buckingham Palace. If the royals were abolished, the taxpayer would still pay to have it restored so it could open as a tourist attraction (albeit it would then probably become self-funding but only after more outlay from us).

We were talking about your contribution to the cost of a Christmas card, but I see you would like to talk about something else entirely. I suggest starting your own thread. Merry Christmas.

Well tough luck because it's not changing any time soon!!

Oh and it's not 'his' house. It's owned by the Crown Estate. But why let the facts get in the way of a good whinge...

arselicker · 19/12/2024 21:06

@wigsonthegreenandhatsforthelifting you have a bit of a cheek to accuse me of being a hateful person were you not the poster on the h & m thread saying Megan was a ugly child and making disparaging remarks about their children. Children that no one has actually seen. "I reckon you must be pretty hateful as a person ".

I am still waiting your retraction of your false allegation, and an apology for making it.

If you said something about @wigsonthegreenandhatsforthelifting that was incorrect - why aren't you apologising, surely that is the mature response?

@arselicker I'm sorry I missed your little gems but I am guessing it wasn't a retraction or an apology...

Says a lot about a person that can't acknowledge when they're wrong. It was a horrible accusation too,

EdithWeston · 20/12/2024 09:44

But was that riding a horse? 😉

I thought Diana rode horses as a child then stopped after an accident. There are certainly pictures of her riding with QEII in the early 80s, before Hewitt came along. He taught William and Harry though.

BalloonSlayer · 21/12/2024 07:24

I saw an interview with Earl Snowdon, who took that photo. He said it was his idea, and acknowledged that, looking back, it was a duff idea. He said Diana was very sweet about it and went out and bought some riding trousers for it as she didn't have any because she didn't ride. (I would happily buy those riding trousers if they made my legs look like Diana's do in that picture!)

But photoshop a santa hat on that horse and it's a winner.

@BalloonSlayer "He said Diana was very sweet about it and went out and bought some riding trousers"
Yep- bet she popped out to her nearest Decathlon for some jhods....
