BBC News - Questions over Andrew's judgement and finances raised again

At this point I think we really have to ask when he has ever displayed good judgement. Thank goodness he isn't a working royal anymore.

Charles needs to watch The Godfather ll. When Michael Corleone became the Don and realised his brother Freddo was a completely liability who had betrayed the family he realised he had to get rid. He told his henchmen that nothing should happen to Freddo “while our mother is alive”. Once their mother died…

This made me laugh out loud!

Yes you are right and far from being sorry, he's not even slightly embarrassed.

No, according to Fergie, in her latest interview (where she bleats that she wishes she was asked to do more for the RF - god forbid!), Andrew is 'sad'. Oh dear. One tear, left eye. But the good news is that good old Fergie 'won't let him down'. How touching.

cheezncrackers · 18/12/2024 08:45

I wouldn't describe Charles as enabling him but he does need to be tougher. I wonder if he is being too kind because he doesn't want to upset his nieces, although surely at this point they must know what their father is.

Well yes possibly a kindness to B & E, but also because Charles understands very well that he's treading a fine line being firm with Andrew and totally alienating him. And if he does the latter, as we see beautifully illustrated by this Chinese spy debacle, he makes Andrew even MORE likely to fall under the influence of shady characters seeking to exploit him and his royal profile (such as is left of it). Plus, look what happened when they cast H & M out in the cold - if they cut off his money and leave him without a 'suitable' home 'befitting his station' he could well look to write his memoirs and that would be an utter horror show for Charles and the rest of the RF.

Remember Peter Philips and his ad for Jersey milk which was broadcast on Chinese state tv..

I thought it was Japanese TV, which is rather different!

BodenCardiganNot · 18/12/2024 09:31

@cheezncrackers
Just had a look and nope, it's Chinese TV

I think that Andrew's memoirs (should they materialise), if they are as tone-deaf as his Maitlis interview and Harry's Spare, will make him into even more of a laughing stock than he already is. And god knows what risible claptrap he'd write about 'the Duchess' and 'their Royal Highnesses my daughters'.

I think that insights into families have a tendency to splash back a lot of the dirt on to the story-teller.

I don't believe Andrew is sad for a moment. Sadness isn't the same as having a tantrum because you aren't allowed to do what you want.

Memoirs? God, can you imagine! They'd be entertaining, if nothing else.

molly-coddling is inappropriate and leads to worse outcomes

as does placating someone out of fear

it’s a form of extortion and we all know greedy people rarely stop themselves - they usually keep demanding, threatening or harming

someone needs to Barbara Woodhouse him with a firm no and a bap on the nose with a rolled newspaper

They should buy him a small house in Montecito. Fergie and Meghan can do yoga and walk the dogs together. Fergie can give parenting advice. Andrew can golf.

It’s clear you know nothing about Montecito.
There are no “small houses” in Montecito.
If Andrew couldn’t afford that Swiss chalet, he really couldn’t afford a home in Montecito. And seeing as how his older brother cut him off, he’s in no position to purchase a mansion much grander than the one in which he currently resides — which he has allowed to crumble down around him.
Besides — nobody trusts him. What makes you think Harry would? That’s just downright silly.

There are actually, @DreamTheMoors, though "small certainly isn't the same as "cheap")
If you go down Olive Mill Drive there are condos between the highway and the coast (a pal lives in one)

They would probably say something like, having being brought up in such elevated circles, he was too honourable and too polite to refuse his good Chinese friend access to the Palace.

It might be worth it for the laughs. He would have to get one of the many Royal arselickers correspondents to ghost write it. It would be completely horrific! They would have to pad out ' I'm a Royal Prince' and ' I am a war hero' into several pages!

MrsLeonFarrell · 21/12/2024 14:53

The Times today claimed that courtiers call Andrew and Harry The Dukes of Hazard. A bit unfair to Harry but the singular would make a great title for Andrew's autobiography.

I reckon we could sketch out an outline of the ducal memoir for a ghostwriter.

Chap 1 - Born spare, born most beloved of all

Chap 2 - Here are all my titles and styles because I'm terribly important

Chaps 3 - How I was always mummy's favourite little soldier

Chap 4 - Charles's failings as a child, of which there were many

Chap 5 - How I became a war hero

Chap 6 - How I became a living sex god and also the world's most devoted family man

Chap 7 - How I became a living trade envoy legend and was talked about a lot

Chap 8 - How I became a living golf legend because I used my opportunities wisely

Chap 9 - Straightforward shooting weekends

Chap 10 - How I didn't really know Jeffrey, Ghislaine or the Chinese chappy very well at all; it's all a big misunderstanding

Chap 11 - Why Charles is a big rotter

Chap 12 - Here's some hints at more family secrets I will spill if Charles doesn't keep millions rolling my way

DreamTheMoors · 21/12/2024 22:33

Will Andrew get mad? Is he a bomb waiting to go off? Do Charles and, say, William need to worry that Andrew will get fed up with being excluded and pointed out as the f—k up of the family and start to blab about family members and their secrets?
I’m sure he has some good ones to share. What’s keeping him from talking?
It seems to me that Charles must walk a fine line between being the “decent brother” and not angering the idiot brother into blasting the rest of the family into next year by revealing their embarrassing or perhaps even shocking secrets.

Extiainoiapeial · 21/12/2024 22:39

Nah, he's a company man, and gets funds from big bruv. He's not brave

I'm sure Andrew's secrets are far worse than anyone else's. I don't even he is stupid enough to risk them getting out.
