I read Tom Bower's book. I found it an awful read, it really dwelled on every negative about the Beckhams. It was like he had a real axe to grind with them. I thought it would give a more balanced idea of them.

He's allegedly a serial cheat, can't keep it in his pants. They are both completely fame obsessed, money obsessed, obsessed with the PR message from the brand.

I think he comes across worse as a person than her, as in he seems a nasty piece of work whereas she's more vapid. Allegedly the marriage only stayed together because she threatened him with losing the children and he couldn't bear that.

Who knows what the truth is but they certainly seem to have very superficial values.

One last message re the 3m. This money no doubt went to the charities. But these people have the resources to do things following proper process. Like we all have to. It is way more work to get a million out in cash and give it to Charles as cash, than to do a bank transfer. The only reason is to stop money laundering checks.

Amusingly the opposite is true, since the checks will happen both when you get the cash out of the banks in the first place, when you give iit to the charity as they’ll have to do their own checks and when the charity deposits it in their own bank account. Ironically because all of those organisation would have to regard a large cash transaction as a red flag. That doesn’t mean that there is anything inherently wrong with it though - just that it is unusual and needs to be carefully checked. If it passes the checks, as this transaction did, everyone is happy.

And of course the donor knows how to use bank accounts. But that wouldn’t have given him nearly as much personal gratification and affirmation of his wealth and largesse as casually handing over a huge amount in cash. It’s the same vibe as people handing over surfboard-sized cheques to charity simply for the photo op. I suspect they also know bank transfers are available.
