Ouch that's got to touch a nerve for the Sussexes ! I did notice that VB was respectfully dressed as was only right for the occasion.

The Sussexes aren't current news, and I doubt if they give a shit tbh. This constant need to drag H&M into every story is ridiculous.

Oh I choose to disagree hence my post and I've been informed that they were livid about this.

@Pluvia

"
I hope Kemi Badenoch took the opportunity to promote women's rights"

What do you think is the real answer to that?

Why though? They actively chose to not take part in state dinners anymore so it must be a relief not to have to be involved in this one. Are you saying this is more about a lost friendship and that they someone, unreasonably, feel betrayed by the Beckhams?

Cynic17 · 04/12/2024 11:40

Do people really not know that State Visits happen at the request of the Government? The Royal Family has no say in it.
If you object to a State Visit from Qatar, you need to write to the Prime Minister!

stripeyshutters · 04/12/2024 11:40

Already explained the two hit.

Who was there as well as the leaders of the other parties and partners and various other political people.

Meghan never attended a State Banquet . When Harry accompanied Rose Hanbury to the ( I think) Chinese State Banquet , it was reported that Meghan was furious she couldn’t go as she was only H’s girlfriend.
I am pretty sure she would have loved to have gone to one although would probably have been miffed that she would only get 3rd/4th choice of tiara and walk behind Catherine.

stripeyshutters · 04/12/2024 12:01

Meghan was also on maternity leave when the Trump visit took place.

Many things are reported, sources unnamed but 'close to' or whatever. I take everything in the media with a pinch of salt.

Petrified? Painful? What ridiculous observations

She did look terribly nervous, like she didn't know what to do.
She was beautifully dressed.

Informed by who?

So do I but there were several reports and - strange- the Rose/ William rumours started shortly afterwards.
🤷‍♀️

JSMill · 04/12/2024 12:57

I will never forget the look on H's face when he had to be at BP for Trump's visit. His personal feelings were clearly visible. I dislike Trump as well but our government wanted a good relationship with him and H's entire privilege rests on the fact that he and his family represent the nation. If I had all that wealth and privilege, I would make the effort to suck it up.

deeahgwitch · 04/12/2024 12:58

Rose Hanbury was at that state banquet as the wife of the Lord Great Chamberlain, the Marquess of Cholmondeley.

Indeed however he was performing an official role so Harry accompanied Rose and sat beside her at the table .

Ah how lovely to see this example of excess and gluttony just a few weeks after pious Wills was spouting about homelessness. Makes my heart sing.

It’s a state occasion, he’s the Prince of Wales, should he have boycotted it and ask for the cost of his plate to be donated to Shelter?

Samcro · 04/12/2024 14:36

how werid that the op has started a thread about the beckhams who are not royal in the royal topic!! just to have a pop at meghan

Ooh, who told you that? Angela Levin? Allison Pearson? Or another Royal Family sycophant who hates Harry and Meghan? Do tell.

adriftinadenofvipers · 04/12/2024 15:07

Solent123 · 04/12/2024 00:14

Why indeed - why on earth are we rolling out the red carpet for Qatar?

Ask Keir Starmer! Or his predecessor!

adriftinadenofvipers · 04/12/2024 15:08

Solent123 · 04/12/2024 00:25

Well I guess the thread could be about the Beckhams and it is unreasonable that they are there as its a well known fact that VB only eats fish and grilled veg for the last 40 years, so quails eggs and pheasant are a no go. Why on earth the OP thinks it would touch a nerve for H&M I know have no clue - hhmm living in sunny California and avoiding dinners with some seriously dodgy types - and I don't mean the Beckhams.

The Sussexes hang out with their fair share of dodgy types lmao!

OptimisticMermaid · 04/12/2024 01:16

These state dinners are paid for by us. In our name.

At the behest of the government. Do inform yourself before throwing out nonsense statements.

I'm sure the RF isn't falling over itself to do them either. Can't imagine anything much more tedious.

Yep, the govt are total piss takers. All of them.

Apart from the money Charles got from Qatar.

Government Charles 3 million quid. Qatar misogynist homophobic inhuman government. Not in my name.

Are you quite alright there dearie? You sound quite bewildered?

Presumably because they were attending a Royal event ? The fact that they used to be friends with H and M is the link I assume .
There are lots of threads on the RF board that are only loosely connected to the RF ; James Middleton’s book , Hugh Grosvenor’s wedding etc .
