ARO update

At the end of August, there was a partial rejection of the ARO trademark because of the name and descriptions. Also issues with the logo.
They had 3 months to rectify, which you would think would be ample time.

But just a few days before the deadline, an extension has been applied for. Which would be another 3 months

So it’s obviously not an easy fix, I’m sure there have been countless people working to get this done and they have months! Yet they’ve not been able to sort it.

Seemingly, you are only allowed one extension. This would take her to the end of February. So pretty much a year since she’s launched and it’s no further forward, if anything she’s in a worse position. What a disaster.

You weren’t criticising the business, you were criticising her. Read what you wrote again.

The quip about inspections brings to mind the deranged people who contacted California’s health department over Meghan sending jams to friends lol

I wasn't criticising her, but she's a public figure so as such is fair game. There is no business to criticise in any case.

And pointing out that any business selling food to the public needs to undergo health inspections is not a 'quip'. It's a fact and a pertinent one. Your line of argument is a bit disingenuous.

I disagree but we move 🤷🏽‍♀️

Meghan is her own brand, so discussing the points about why the business, being built on Duchess of Sussex brand, may not be a roaring success is valid.

A quick google .......

"A brand is a set of visual assets, stylistic choices, and other resources that combine to form a cohesive image.

A brand is more than a logo, name, or slogan. It could include almost anything that contributes to your company’s reputation — like the tone used in your messaging or the dress code for your employees.

The various ways you’re perceived by the public is your brand.

A strong brand image helps differentiate your business from the competition. If you can establish a positive impression among your audience, attracting leads and retaining existing customers will become easier over time. This could lead to organic marketing as loyal customers feel inclined to advocate for your brand."

JSMill · 02/12/2024 12:05

I don't think people actually buy Duchy originals because of its royal connection. At least not anymore. Actually IIRC I don't think it was making money and then Waitrose took it over and made it work. I wouldn't say it's massively successful even then.

wonderingconcerned · 02/12/2024 12:21

MM is unpopular and untalented.

So no aspirational brand values from which to build a business.

These are facts born out by frequent and consistent polls alongside her inability to secure and sustain any entertainment projects post the initial Neflix and Spotify deals despite the power of WME behind her and the huge opportunity that marrying a prince initially afforded her.

Not only is she percieved as disappointing, inauthentic and shallow - worse she is has also repeatedly and consistently over time and geographies been reported to have bullied at least 12 of her staff.

Unpopular, untalented and nasty to boot.

As PP have said brands are about reputations built on trust.

Her early reputation on initially joining the BRF has since been exposed as fake - the collateral damage and the trail of destruction she has left behind in relationships of numerous friends, colleagues and family members is something else and indicates a High Conflict Personality not to be trusted.

I think ARO can be a success still, you don’t have to sell branded products to make money. No contradiction there.

You stated ARO would be a success and you were looking forward to ARO 2025

Then you say you don’t know if her products will sell.

That is very much a contradiction

Dont make up excuses about selling other products now

Why didn’t Meghan record her lifestyle show in her own house ?

I guess privacy???

Though again, it's a missed opportunity. Part of the reason these home style cookery shows are a success is that we (the public) like to get a glimpse into their lives.

Nigella, Delia, James Martin, Ina Garten - we like watching to see what appliances they use, what cookware etc. (disclaimer I know Nigella nowadays films in a recreation of her own kitchen, but early shows were definitely in her own home).

We like seeing their own places as it gives a stamp of authenticity and relatability, as well as aspiration.

Sunblessed · 02/12/2024 12:34

There isn’t even any info leaked if she is working with local farms etc for produce.

All we’ve been told from their sources to Page six, is that she’s keeping her cards close to her chest. Which means nothing.

It means, just like we heard that her business would launch later in 2024 with products and that never happened, neither will this. She can’t secure a TM for any name until late 2025. There is a backlog at the Patent office since Covid and it takes months and months for paperwork to go through at the moment.

Im sure the cooking show still be released before the Netflix contract is up in Sept 2025.
But this is just her PR trying hard for the public not to forget about her brand , while she tries to sort out the disaster that is her lifestyle business.

I mean who would want to buy products from someone whose own lifestyle could at best be described as chaotic. Abandoning her family, her husbands country, her acting career, old friends. She isn’t successful in her personal life at all- why do people think we want to buy a slice of that toxicity?

You are deeply obsessed with Meghan and her purported failures please understand that folks who feels just as strongly as you in the opposite way exist lol

I think she should open a physical location too. An actual orchard people can visit.

Come on now 😂😂😂🙌🙌🙌

It's like word association. You say Gordon Ramsay - you know what you are getting. You say Nigella Lawson - you know what you are getting. You say Meghan Markle - you get masses of stuff which is not always positive. She doesn't have an identifiable brand.

You know what, when I hear the RF, I get nonce defenders and racists. So maybe you have a point.

Her Montecito home is pretty big. I'd have thought that, if the will was there, it wouldn't be particularly difficult to allocate a couple of rooms and part of the garden (maybe parts we've already seen on Netflix and other material they've released) as areas that could be 'dressed' for filming, but still have plenty of space left over for private family life.

And whereas MM's "brand" doesn't really resonate in UK, that doesn't necessarily mean the same in US. I've assumed her focus is US (and that's reinforced by the goods we've heard about so far being too heavy to ship to UK).

So a more important question is how she comes across in the US. And how far a damaging article in as well-respected and influential publication as The Hollywood Reporter would impinge on activities beyond acting and producing.

Mylovelygreendress · 02/12/2024 14:15

H and M’s house is huge with multiple bedrooms , bathrooms , an office, sauna, gym, games room and arcade, as well as a wine cellar and a five-car garage not to mention a pool house and spacious grounds . I seriously doubt the children’s routine would be affected as their Nannie’s would keep them occupied.

Yes, usually if you buy someone’s products it’s because you want to feel you’re a little bit part of that lifestyle (eg buying a Chanel lipstick instead of a generic or high street one). I’m really not convinced many people want to emulate or feel a part of M’s lifestyle. The only thing I’ve ever bought that had a famous name attached to it was one of Elizabeth Taylor’s perfumes back in the 80s. I bought it because Liz seemed the epitome of glamour and I wanted a bit of it.

To you, you don’t like her, which is perfectly fine.

The fact is there are people who will buy clothes, shoes and bags just because she wore them.

There will be people who buy her jam because she makes them.

Pretending that what you feel is universal and all consuming does not wash.

Of course there will be people who like her enough to buy her jam and will buy things because she has worn them.

The real question is whether there will be enough of them to make her serious money. Because in order to make the kind of money she is presumably hoping to make you need to attract widespread and repeat business. That is the point on which I am dubious (based on past performance), and you are confident. Time will tell.

‘Royal Expert’ Angela Levin is interviewed for the documentary. 😂

i stopped reading after that. Hopefully the documentarians have more that.

I suspect it is not going to be interesting at all, but I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you Mylovelygreendress.

I didn't really understand why a German TV company are that interested in Harry. I suppose he is part German from way back when. I would assume that it has something to do with the Invictus Games and how much it cost the German taxpayer. Will be interesting to see how it works in 2027 and the financials.

A few gems:

Meghan was once hated, but now she is merely derided; South Park saw to that. The Sussexes only appeal now is the comedy gold to be mined in the gaping chasm between what they believe they look like (fearless fighters for freedom and justice) and how they appear to the rest of us (two spiteful toddlers attempting to be bosses of a sandpit).
Markle will be remembered not as a feminist role model or a savvy businesswoman, but as the Doofus Duchess – arguably one of the great comic creations of our age, recalling variously Nigel Tufnel from Spinal Tap, David Brent from The Office and Alan Partridge.

When Meghan arrived, she seemed so modern; now she looks like a relic from another age, a bored, rich, housewife whose only status comes from marrying well.
It’s a small thing, but for me The Handbag summed it up, going out for lunch in Montecito this week, wearing an outfit costing more than £60,000, Meghan carried a Dior bag embossed with the letters ‘DSSOS’ - Duchess of Sussex.
It would have been trashy behaviour from a footballer’s wife - flaunting the fact that your only achievement is marrying a rich man – but from a woman ceaselessly yapping about feminism, it was a spectacular own-goal.

She’s completely right about just being a rich housewife and that handbag embossed with her title is very gauche. I’m surprised she hasn’t taken to wearing a signet ring with with her coat of arms

Meghan Markle has become one of the 'great comic creations of our age'

COMMENT: Julie Burchill dissects the Sussexes exclusively for the Sunday Express and writes there are quite a few things she can't forgive Meghan Markle for - but probably the worst thing is for finally making her a monarchist.

It’s like the cringeworthy doormat with their monogram.

isitsnowingyett · 02/12/2024 23:41

I remember the days on here when certain posters used to talk about things that Meghan wore and would put on their Christmas lists eg ear rings.
