Times article asking is 2024 the year of the bores. They have many categories, including swiftly bores but Meghan has a category all to herself:

As a mother’ bores

The Duchess of Sussex, queen of the “as a mother” bores, was on peak AAM form at a recent children’s hospital fundraiser in Los Angeles, demonstrating exactly how it’s done in 2024. “From my standpoint as a mother,” Meghan said, establishing her unique perspective straight off the bat, “no one wants to be in a position where you need to go to a place like this.” (Amen. Not great for the children, but let’s focus on the mothers.) “But if you have to, the best place in the world you could go would be Children’s Hospital LA.” Hmm. See what she did there: made a celebration of the hospital staff’s work quite a lot about herself AAM.
And Meghan is merely the icing mother figure on the top of the cake of modern life. Lately, this habit of identifying yourself AAM is rife and licence to bore anyone whenever you choose on any subject, because “AAM” is a shutout. “AAM, I really relish my alone time.” “AAM, I really want to see peace in the Middle East.” “AAM, I think growing your own vegetables is important.” “AAM, I see and feel more clearly.” Sentences beginning “as a woman” have the potential for boring, but with AAM there’s no way around it. Prepare to be off-the-scale bored.

Most likely to say “For me, there is nothing more rewarding [hand on heart] than seeing my little ones eat my homemade pesto.”

Least likely to say “Let’s not talk about the kids.”

If Harris wins the election, 2025 will be the year of the childless cat ladies. 😁

I read that as “if Harry wins…” and though “blimey, don’t give meghan any ideas!”

Slothfully
But your the ones wasting your time.

The glee with which you pounce on anything that is published about her so you can pick her apart, make mean spirited comments and laugh at what your fellow snipers say. And heaven forbid anyone should point that out to you on a site where anyone has the right to post.

What do you get out of having such hatred for a woman you've never met who hasn't done anything to harm you?

Please stop with the weird and aggressive vitriol in Meghan's defence. She would only want you to be kind.

But what do you get out of it, OP?

Probably the same thing you get from chastising others …..

Think it’s quite obvious that there are a lot of posters that don’t understand British satire.

Very tiresome

I understand British satire but still think it’s a bit sad and not that funny.
And I don’t even like her.

LaMarschallin · 27/10/2024 09:33

Surely everyone's wasting their time posting on MN or any other social media?
Like anybody just chatting down the pub or over coffee is wasting their time.
In modern society there's the luxury of time to waste: people knit for fun, rather than warmth; cook for interest rather than avoiding starvation.
Everything doesn't have to be pared down to extremes of "hate" or "love" and all the matters discussed don't have to be weighty ones.
I'd read the "modern bores" article in the Times too ("Meghan AAM bore" being one small part) and was interested to see what others thought. I think the thread has been fairly light and certainly contains jokes at Meghan's expense but pretty mild ones.
A slight problem might be that some posters don't understand that comments made in the OP's first few posts are an extrapolation of the AAM trope in general.
The first two paragraphs of the article are about Meghan saying that, AAM, she can see how awful it is when a child goes into hospital. As a human, most people can see that, surely?
But the rest of the article, starting:
And Meghan is merely the icing mother figure on the top of the cake of modern life. Lately, this habit of identifying yourself AAM is rife and licence to bore anyone whenever you choose on any subject, because “AAM” is a shutout
leads in to how AAM is used generally.

I’m beg to differ. The Oprah interview with the fabricated headlines made out the British public were racist whereas (bar a few bad apples and racists) had been largely welcoming at the start and turned out to cheer at the wedding spectacle. And that’s why I care that MM & Harry are finally being called out.

Your posts include:

  • calling this thread a murky corner
  • repeatedly asking other posters why they post
  • stating posters are showing hatred towards Meghan
  • calling posters ‘snipers’

So I disagree with your statement completely, that your posts aren’t weird, aggressive of vitriolic

That's a good point.
It's no longer enough to have a go at people who are critical of Meghan - there are some very unpleasant posts about our whole "salty little island".

I daresay that Chomsky would find a few things amusing about the cultural grammar on this thread.

"The gall to report posts" (my italics) seems an odd way of putting it, like it's a bit of a cheek or disrespectful or something, instead of the actual way MN is moderated.

Twistybranch · 27/10/2024 10:47

Looks like all their posts were deleted, so must be a banned poster.

This is such a depressing thread. Proper mean girl vibes, spiteful, bitchy and just yuk.
Before a witty riposte comes in, I'm aware of Flouncers Corner and have no intention of heading there just yet, so the door won't hit be hitting my arse on the way out, sorry.

Meghan is a controversial figure and someone who has chosen a very high public profile.

She has done some very questionable things which have affected others very seriously. There are serious allegations of workplace bullying against her on both sides of the Atlantic.

She is not beyond criticism, whatever you may say or think.

The tactics of the Meghan-worshipping Sussex Squad are culturally fascinating - as well as depressing and horrifying. I'm sure there will be a few PhDs based on the whole thing in years to come: the manipulation of image and identity, the marshalling of social media (by SS and also even more sinister operators such as Russia and China) to undermine the RF and destabilise the UK/Commonwealth in general, the cynical piggy-backing on black identity politics in the US etc etc.

And people pretend not to understand why we're interested in 'someone we've never met'.

Then you’ll have a coronary if you ever see Nicky Haslams tea towels

Oh I love Nicky Haslam's tea-towels!

They actually make me LOL (not an expression I like to use normally). Hilariously random lists of what Nicky H deems to be 'common'. Some of the ones which come to mind are:

washing your hands after visiting the loo
swans
ordering lobster
your brownies recipe
house keys
grieving
podcasts

etc etc
