Meghan, Queen of the Bores

Times article asking is 2024 the year of the bores. They have many categories, including swiftly bores but Meghan has a category all to herself:

As a mother’ bores

The Duchess of Sussex, queen of the “as a mother” bores, was on peak AAM form at a recent children’s hospital fundraiser in Los Angeles, demonstrating exactly how it’s done in 2024. “From my standpoint as a mother,” Meghan said, establishing her unique perspective straight off the bat, “no one wants to be in a position where you need to go to a place like this.” (Amen. Not great for the children, but let’s focus on the mothers.) “But if you have to, the best place in the world you could go would be Children’s Hospital LA.” Hmm. See what she did there: made a celebration of the hospital staff’s work quite a lot about herself AAM.
And Meghan is merely the icing mother figure on the top of the cake of modern life. Lately, this habit of identifying yourself AAM is rife and licence to bore anyone whenever you choose on any subject, because “AAM” is a shutout. “AAM, I really relish my alone time.” “AAM, I really want to see peace in the Middle East.” “AAM, I think growing your own vegetables is important.” “AAM, I see and feel more clearly.” Sentences beginning “as a woman” have the potential for boring, but with AAM there’s no way around it. Prepare to be off-the-scale bored.

Most likely to say “For me, there is nothing more rewarding [hand on heart] than seeing my little ones eat my homemade pesto.”

Least likely to say “Let’s not talk about the kids.”

Why waste your time writing such a nonsense thread on people you don't know, based on articles that are written to make money?!
Why am I replying to this nonsense?? 😆 Leaving now...

😂😂

The MM bullying needs to stop and I am not a fan either!

You need to report the posts you think are bullying, and if MNHQ agree they will delete (as they have done so very many times before with posts that cross the line in any way)

Twistybranch · 26/10/2024 19:43

The article is clearly tongue-in-cheek at yet that seems to have completely went over some posters heads.

‘Fun’ and ‘sponge’ comes to mind

I know it's literally everyday non stop. My God what do people want from meghan, do they want her to jump off a cliff or something.

Henry must have played the only father in the world card at least as many times as Rachel.

Why isn't he getting a press bashing?

AutumnCrow · 26/10/2024 20:19

Might I ask, @Slothfully and @laveritable and @ZaraCC why you don't like / are not fans of M?

Well, quite. I sense a PR attempted rehabilitation in the wind. Personally, I think he's non-redeemable. There's a limit to how far monarchical hypocrisy can stretch.

Slothfully · 26/10/2024 20:49

And yet somehow you found yourself here in the murky corner

They show up in active convos. And now on threads I'm on.

Bloody hell what a mean-spirited article. Imagine being happy to have that appear with your name on it.

No it's not.

Bullying posts are deleted - rightly so.

I very much doubt that anyone who comments negatively on someone who places themselves in the public eye wants that person "to jump off a cliff or something"

That sort of hyperbole, and assumption about the motivations of posters (many of whom have been chuntering on about the RF on MN - negatively and positively - since the inception of this board over a dozen years ago) is rather dismissive of varied and more nuanced individuals

Princessfluffy · 27/10/2024 06:38

Can I suggest that if you think MM needs more support you make a donation to Archewell instead of wasting your time here. I think this would be way more meaningful and helpful for Meghan.

Thedom · 27/10/2024 06:42

So much of the criticism and snark they get is because they repeatedly and very publicly display how hypocritical and disengenous they are. Most of the public aren't buying what they are trying to sell about themselves.

I can see why the author of the Times article sees the 'As A Mother' spiel coming from MM as her being a bore, its just another one of the catch phrases which she repeats without any appearance of being authentic.

Misogyny.

I think the article was trying to be funny, like a million 'I hate this about modern people' articles before it, but the writer missed the mark in every section and just came across as mean spirited.

Twistybranch · 27/10/2024 07:39

It wasn’t mean spirited at all. Get a grip

To be fair, she doesn't let him talk if she's there so it's likely more him ... plus she wrote that 'book' Bench 🙄

I thought it was, particularly the sections on Slow Horses, trainers, Halloween and Swifties. It was as if the writer doesn't like people liking things they personally aren't interested in and to me it came across as mean spirited. I think they meant to be funny but, again to me, they missed the mark.

Then you’ll have a coronary if you ever see Nicky Haslams tea towels

Maybe, maybe not. It's possible to do these things with humour. If Marina Hyde had written it, I suspect I would find it funnier.

Those that make a career in the celebrity world do so knowing that they will be a subject which others talk about. Some good. Some bad. Some ugly. It’s not complicated. It’s not difficult to understand.

And those who play the game successfully know when to laugh at themselves and when to accept criticism, something both Harry and Meghan seem to have trouble with.

Slothfully · 27/10/2024 08:50

But what do you get out of it, OP?
