Meghan, Queen of the Bores

Times article asking is 2024 the year of the bores. They have many categories, including swiftly bores but Meghan has a category all to herself:

As a mother’ bores

The Duchess of Sussex, queen of the “as a mother” bores, was on peak AAM form at a recent children’s hospital fundraiser in Los Angeles, demonstrating exactly how it’s done in 2024. “From my standpoint as a mother,” Meghan said, establishing her unique perspective straight off the bat, “no one wants to be in a position where you need to go to a place like this.” (Amen. Not great for the children, but let’s focus on the mothers.) “But if you have to, the best place in the world you could go would be Children’s Hospital LA.” Hmm. See what she did there: made a celebration of the hospital staff’s work quite a lot about herself AAM.
And Meghan is merely the icing mother figure on the top of the cake of modern life. Lately, this habit of identifying yourself AAM is rife and licence to bore anyone whenever you choose on any subject, because “AAM” is a shutout. “AAM, I really relish my alone time.” “AAM, I really want to see peace in the Middle East.” “AAM, I think growing your own vegetables is important.” “AAM, I see and feel more clearly.” Sentences beginning “as a woman” have the potential for boring, but with AAM there’s no way around it. Prepare to be off-the-scale bored.

Most likely to say “For me, there is nothing more rewarding [hand on heart] than seeing my little ones eat my homemade pesto.”

Least likely to say “Let’s not talk about the kids.”

Oh give it a bloody rest. You don’t know the woman.

She's a wolf in sheep's clothing! So narcissistic, bullying, pushing her way through to the camera shot, questionable charity monies/administration, lie after lie after lie, camera hunter, grief shark ... the list goes on - it's fine to discuss these things - if you don't agree you can just scroll by

LaMarschallin · 27/10/2024 11:56

CoffeeCantata

Good - though chilling - post about the Sussex Squad tactics and how they're being manipulated. This has often crossed my mind too.

On a lighter note:

your brownies recipe

I'm taking this badly. Like, just mine?!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 27/10/2024 11:58

The Oprah interview with the fabricated headlines made out the British public were racist

Clearly that was the intent, @WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout, and of course it suited some to lap it up as "proof", but like so much else it was quickly discovered to have been based on deceit so was just another thing which blew up in their faces

And that's the trouble with being deceitful: try telling the truth for once and you're apt to find you've lost an audience - or at least those capable of raional thought

Oh I love Nicky Haslam's tea-towels!

They actually make me LOL (not an expression I like to use normally). Hilariously random lists of what Nicky H deems to be 'common'. Some of the ones which come to mind are:

washing your hands after visiting the loo
swans
ordering lobster
your brownies recipe
house keys
grieving
podcasts

etc etc

They are brilliant. My favourite things that he finds common :
Godchildren over 21 and Scottish accents (I have one)

Godchildren over 21

Do you have to cull them, like in "Logan's Run"?

PrettyFlyforaMaiTai · 27/10/2024 12:06

I’m confused about the faux concern about attacks and bullying of Meghan on this thread. The journalist is criticising a habit and is stating that Meghan is the prime example of using the phrase “as a mother”. It also criticises Taylor Swift bores and there’s a photo of William, George and Charlotte with Taylor, implying that they think they are Taylor Swift bores. But no one is saying anything about this?

I think that’s the kindest solution

@CoffeeCantata - well what a list - I can't agree with not washing hands - I assume teatowels is you have staff for washing up & housekeys - the security staff / butler open the door for you. I quite like lobster so I will order it very occasionally or have it at home ( bought cooked ) How can Swans be common. ? elegant and quite protective parents .

But then I am not going to lose sleep over what Nicky Halsam thinks as common. How about dying your hair peroxide and wearing leather jackets as a mid life crisis 😊

It’s because those are not regular posters - the headline seems particularly anti Meghan - despite the actual mildness of the article and thread snark - so it’s popped up on the radar of the ‘Sussex squad’ somewhere and prompted a mass defense pile on.

A complete overreaction which ends up doing the opposite of making their case.

Very indicative of tactics and the current modus operandi saccharorum

I do get the impression that good answer to, what do you find common? Is, anything not Nicky Haslam. But he has definitely found his niche.

BasiliskStare · 27/10/2024 13:38

I think there is a difference between criticism and bullying. I would not condone bullying of Meghan but she really has (to paraphrase Hillaire Belloc ) Meghan told such awful lies which made one gas and stretch one's eyes . OW interview as an eg . If she is going to use her RF title to put herself front and centre and then make mistakes , I think criticism is valid - not bullying. I think criticism of PH is valid. Particularly the RAVEC case. So I would encourage anyone to report posts which are bullying but I think criticism is allowed of this couple when they make a mistake. I read the Tina Brown chapters and she said of P Andrew as well as Harry , having a huge sense of entitlement / lack of self awareness and not being as clever as you think you are is generally a mistake .

Oh well - but I do hold to they are allowed to be criticised , - bullying - no so just anyone report a bulling post. But I think using royal titles puts you on dodgy ground when that is pretty much all you have.
Report at will 😊

and @LaMarschallin and Twistybranch

If you Google Nicky Haslam's common list, or similar, you'll find them all. They're absolutely ridiculous and random - but completely hilarious! Hi justification for including 'washing your hands after visiting the lavatory' was because most people do it, so therefore it's common, darling. He's bonkers.

I don't know if you remember a book of lists of what was naff - it was a long time ago! But it's similar to that - I think by 'common' he probably means something more akin to naff, although that's hard to define. I think of naff as meaning 'unoriginal/overdone or over-exposed/undiscerning/popular because it's popular etc'.
I really recommend his common lists for a bit of a titter!

Twistybranch · 27/10/2024 13:49

I also love it because having a common list printed on a tea towel is ….so common! He knows how to laugh at himself

Maybe she can upgrade AAM to "As a Mother and a Duchess" for peak gravitas.

Oh dearie me!

Lighten up. Meghan and Harry - but especially Meghan because Harry is a bit of a twit - are really amusing on one level. What WILL they get up to next?

But that's only one side of the coin. On a more serious level Meghan in particular has form for being bullying and mean and I can't completely laugh at her.

She hurt the Queen and Prince Philip in their very last weeks/months on this planet, and branded her sister-in-law and father-in-law as racists to the world.

What a vile thing to do. I'd never, ever forgive someone who did that to me. No wonder they've both suffered health problems. Their stress must have been off the scale.

But if Meghan is the type of person you admire, then you do you, and I hope it works out for you.

Oh for Heaven's sake, read the OPand discover what it's about before commenting.

It's not saying Meghan is boring (I admit that, apart from her awful speeches, she's not boring, as such). They're saying that people who go on about her (like me) are boring.

I can live with that!
