Meg’s era of joy

Triplesec · 06/10/2024 22:40

Showing up to support her very close friend who lost her child and also the children’s hospital at an evening gala. What a friend to have in the Duchess. Meghan was glowing, fresh faced, wore minimal makeup, was confidant and smiley. She was well spoken and supportive of the evening fund raiser when interviewed. Show Up, Do Good. Yes, she always does. Loved her look too.

Of course it is inappropriate to speak about black/mixed women's hair in a nasty way.

Is it appropriate to speak about anyone's hair in a "nasty" way?

Let's re-educate people on history.

Thank you. I'm always happy to be educated or even re-educated.

First of all, as we all know, black people were abused for many years by white people. One of the ways that white people abused black people was to be nasty about their hair.

Been "nasty" sounds most unpleasant.
Where is the evidence of this here or in quotes elsewhere?

This is why you still find many black women now - permanently straightening their afros.

So is it okay for my mixed race friend to straighten her hair? Or for me to have a perm?

Of course it's inappropriate to talk about a mixed race woman's hair negatively, and then compare it to a man's hair. This thread is so nasty.

and then compare it to a man's hair.

Why is that bad?

This where is the "evidence" thing is a strange thing that some people on here keep posting.

It has pointed out to you several times by other posters and myself what was said on here that was nasty about Meghans hair.

When there are multiple posts by multiple posters saying this, why then ask "for evidence"

It's such an odd thing to say

A lot of this thread is disgusting. No wonder she left England, if this was the amount of abuse that she got from people here.

It's like a pack of vultures. Real, real nasty and cruel stuff.

I don't think 'a lot' of this thread is digusting. That's way over the top.

One or two posters have said insulting things - but by far the majority of comments have been measured and reasonable.

Meghan has chosen - nay, fought - to inhabit the shallow, glossy, false, appearance-is-everything world of Hollywood. To suggest it's out of order to comment on her appearance is really ridiculous.

You live by the sword, you die by the sword.

And I haven't spotted anything which could be called racist - even comparing her hair to Russell Brands, which I admit isn't very complimentary, is in no way racist - unless you can explain why???

Regarding your last point. You said "why is comparing her hair to man's hair bad".

Calling a woman "manly' is used as an insult, as you well know.

Several other posters on here have said that Meghan looks manly in the photo. Then someone said that her hair also looks like a man's

My cousin is coming round to my house tonight to show me a new dress that she has bought for a wedding.

If she tries on the dress in front of Me and I tell her she looks "manly" and that her hair looks like a man's hair, do you think she will take it as a compliment or an insult?

In other joyful news!
Good to see that the law is finally catching up on the Sussex Squad.
This woman, one of the worst, most prolific members, posted on X, threatening to blow up Buckingham Palace. Thankfully, it looks like she may be put away for 2 years.
Her pseudonym was Olivia Cromwell. No mention of her Sussex Squad membership in this article but the main thing is that they are obviously being watched, very closely.

Obviously, completely unhinged, she is representing herself.

I hate seeing a woman's worth placed on beauty but that also goes for those who gush about beauty as welll. Meghan has made a living off being beautiful from deal or no to deal to the part of Rachel in suits. Both parts required beauty first and foremost. Meghan has no problem even now using her looks for financial gain with clothes sponship and benefits in kinds from designers. Then there's Harry who is putting incredible pressure on lilibet with the princess Diane comments and now the "blessed" with meghans hair. I worry for lilibet as I'm torn with the privacy as when she eventually makes an appearance the scrutiny will be vile and Harry has piled on the beauty standards pressure. Their supporters don't help with every photo released being gushed over like teenagers with their first crush as apparently being photographed seems to imply their winning in life because of Meghans beauty.

Their supporters don't help with every photo released being gushed over

You mean like all the dislikers, with every photo released being picked apart, like vultures around a carcass?

Both sides of the same coin

I think my words have been rearranged.
I said:

And are we supposed to ignore black mens' hair too?

"I loved the martini glass shape you had shaved on the back of your head but the Mickey Mouse is awful!" would be something I shouldn't have said to my cousin?

You rearranged things I said to mean something quite different.

Lifestooshort71

I know nothing whatsoever about tweaks or surgeons but I do know I'm a much kinder person than you! Gosh, I'll leave you to be a mean girl......

No, you obviously know very little.
Really, you should learn about the meanings of some words.
Well done on being kind - I'm sure you'll make a big difference in the world.

CoffeeCantata · 09/10/2024 12:39

Are you seriously suggesting that a public figure, as Meghan would see herself, with an incredibly high profile and a background in acting, should be immune to comments and speculation about her appearance/possible surgery/make-up/hair?

She's not a private citizen and never wanted to be. She's a red-carpet hogger and publicity-hungry celebrity. That's the world she's chosen, and I for one wish she'd go back to Montecito and stay home.

She's as tough as old boots, apart from anything else. And very few comments on here would come under the 'mean girl' category. Critical, analytical, speculative - but not mean.

For real mean, go to Celebitchy where people rub their hands in glee at Catherine's cancer and accuse William of beating her up and having sex, not only with Catherine's friend, but with her husband too. Lovely people.

(Oh - and why am I not surprised at the crazy appearance of that SS woman who's been arrested for her horrible threats. Sorry - low blow - but I've read so much vicious stuff from them that I'm giving myself an amnesty on being kind. So arrest me!)

Totally unnecessary, I agree.

Double standards yet again.

MaturingCheeseball · 09/10/2024 12:53

I wonder if that SS woman in court has ever appeared on MN?

MummyJ12 · 09/10/2024 12:59

They walk amongst us @MaturingCheeseball. She’s been allowed bail and still has her X account, so she’s still using these platforms. Although her posts are all private now and the Sussex Squad posts have been hidden/deleted funnily enough. She also used the pseudonym of DaisyYork.
These people definitely need help.

Pot kettle black? It’s not very nice to make fun of someone’s name, give people snide nicknames or call people bitter. Just because other people do it, you don’t have to stoop to their level. Take a leaf from Michelle Obama, “when they go low, we go high”

'British Royalty', I mean, she really is nothing without her connection to the British Royal family, its proved time and time again, no mention of Suits, Archewell, etc. just 'British Royalty' even though she is not British and hates the UK and her husband's Royal family.

I wonder if these are the nurses People magazine said she had photos with as she was leaving?

Rhaidimiddim · 09/10/2024 13:09

theemptinessmachine · 09/10/2024 08:46

It's pretty clear to me that she has had work done. Her nose in particular is narrowed and the tip reduced. Many of the famous African American women get their noses narrowed. Halle Berry, Beyoncé, Janet Jackson, Kelly Rowland. Meghan is no different in that respect.

Are we allowed to talk about Black womens' noses?

As a mother of a daughter I have never commented on my dd's appearance to others as I don't consider that to be what's valuable about her and I don't want her to think that either. Just yesterday I was with her when I met an old work colleague who had never met dd. She said 'aren't you pretty? Don't you have lovely hair?' I immediately changed topic.

And that's a shame. Nothing wrong in telling your DD she's pretty and has lovely
hair.
That's just a few of the good things about her, I would think?

If that is minimal makeup, I'm a cauliflower. And she is a beautiful woman with great figure but I've seen her in more flattering styles, I'm not keen on the strange cut of the bodice, I don't think it works for her at all

Edited

She hasn't got a great figure. Her legs are far too thin. She is beautiful in some of her early photographs. So was Priscilla Presley and Meg Ryan. Look what cosmetic work has done to ti their faces. Not good.

Meg Ryan was a shock to me because she had such an expressive face - that was a huge part of her acting charm. She would still be gorgeous if she’d let herself age naturally. Or even if she’d just stuck to minor ‘work’.

Reese Witherspoon is striking the right balance at the moment - will be interesting to see how she manages the next two decades. Jennifer Aniston also seems to be managing not to take that step too far.

I think Jennifer Aniston has gone too far just recently. She's had something done to her jaw line that has masculinised her.

I think Meghan is treading a careful line with her cosmetic work and hasn't yet gone too far. She looks less 'pretty' than she did when younger but does look very Hollywood polished which is a different thing.

She's nowhere near the Meg Ryan or Courtney Cox level of mess up. I guess they were a lesson in where the line is for those that followed them. They were the first women into their 40s and 50s to utilise some of the new cosmetic tech.

I think there's going to be some lessons in the taking ozempic too far for those coming later as well. M could be a cautionary tale for that she is becoming extremely thin and potentially getting the lollipop head.

StrawberryWasp · 09/10/2024 14:04

Jennifer Aniston looking slightly masculine.
She's always had a strong jaw but something has changed.
I think chin implants or forehead Botox which drops the brows can lead to this.

Yes you have no wrinkles and a tight jaw line but you don't look prettier. You look smooth but slightly uncannily masculine.

It is sad that people feel they have to modify features that they have naturally due to heritage/race in pursuit of a false ideal of beauty but I wouldn't blame them for it, especially in the entertainment field. The fault is with society that fetishises youth and a very narrow, rather warped, definition of what is attractive.

It's always gone on in Hollywood of course but seems to be becoming more generally pervasive and extreme. I imagine having your bags done (I've been tempted, they're inherited)/a well done facelift at the right time could work very well, but now it's fillersfillersfillers botoxbotoxbotox etc and people end up looking very strange (they certainly don't look younger)

Genuinely hope that Meghan knows when to stop. She was and remains very attractive.
