You can't dress a particular way and enjoy yourself? How sad

I can dress in a way appropriate to the occasion easily and very much enjoy myself. Unlike most of MN it seems I actually love weddings and miss those few years where they were seem8ngly every other weekend in our 30s.

I wouldn't be able to wear all yellow or whatever and feel comfortable. I'd be too embarrassed for myself and for the couple too for their crassness.

But we digress. If I were invited to a weekend at Balmoral I would welcome a dress code and guidance because it would be an experience far out of the ordinary and I wouldn't know what to expect or what was expected of me.

What is wrong with that? Honestly, looking for tits on ant

That's such a brilliant way of putting it! 😂

DappledThings · 26/08/2024 17:52

I can’t see the point of offending someone just because you don’t personally like something
I wouldn't offend anyone, I'd just politely decline.

Aren't the Royal Family marvellous accommodating special requests such as wheelchair access. FFS!!

Wheelchair access can be very difficult in some buildings, especially old ones so they probably mean that they require some notice to arrange it. It isn’t always as simple as just providing a ramp. Believe me, I speak from experience. I can imagine that would have to be several adjustments to somewhere like Balmoral 🤷‍♀️

Manypaws · 26/08/2024 17:55

You are going to a castle for the weekend, funnily enough it doesn't have a lift so they will provide suitable accommodation that meets your needs. How can anyone possibly find fault with this?

Are you permanently and personally offended by everything the RF family say or do? I’m thinking you are just on a wind up now, no one can be offended by the RF saying they have wheelchair access available at ancient buildings which were not built for wheelchair access in the first place, you have really jumped the shark with that ridiculous gripe 🙄

Considering the number of places/events that seem to give no thought to how people with disabilities are going to manage, it's nice to know the Royal Family and staff appear to go out of their way to ensure those with disabilities are accommodated.

As to dress codes, would you go to a mosque in short sleeves or to a Vatican audience in hotpants and a crop top? A posh restaurant in ripped jeans and a dirty t-shirt?

You're being ridiculously disingenuous, and making yourself look a little silly in the process.

No, that's the point. I wouldn't and wouldn't need to be patronisingly told in the invitation not to.

Good for you. Some people may not be aware of social conventions, religious practices etc. Advising someone is not being patronising, it's being helpful.

You may not need to be advised but many people would be.

Uricon2 · 26/08/2024 18:22

I've never heard the stories about Blair's dress at Balmoral before, but I find it incredible an ex public schoolboy (or in fact, anyone) thought a City suit was appropriate attire for yomping over grouse moors and assorted hills, which it is well and long known is a preferred RF pastime at Balmoral. Find it hard to believe that it happened or that the QM (publically) commented.

Having seen loads of tourist in the queue ahead of me at St Peter’s in Rome recently be turned away for bare shoulders and short shorts, you’d clearly be surprised how many people don’t have a clue that there may be dress codes to comply with….

Yes, a very unlikely story all round.

Just posting disagreeable bollocks for the sake of it now I think.

DelectableMe · 26/08/2024 18:30

I agree. Particularly the access and additional requirements.

Nadeed · 26/08/2024 18:36

DelectableMe · 26/08/2024 17:51

They're not claiming to be marvellous. They're saying that any additional requests will be noted for the purposes of adjustments. I think that's standard everywhere nowadays?
I got asked about food allergies last time I went to Nandos.

Because I would assume the Royal Family would accommodate food allergies and disability access needs.

They're preventing people from assuming wrongly, by making things crystal clear. What's wrong with that? (I know I am going to regret asking...!)

Nadeed · 26/08/2024 18:37

It is more usual to say - rather than special requests, disabled access, we will of course ....
Stating it is a special request makes it sound as if they are doing you a favour.

WhitesAndStripes · 26/08/2024 18:38

In Australia does it cut both ways. Eg you can't have men only golf clubs?

Does it mean there are no women only gyms in Australia then?

@AutumnCrow it was front page headlines that Cherie wore a trouser suit. This was against the Royal Family dress code. A load of old fashioned bollocks.

Aye. Stop digging ffs.

In your oh so humble opinion.

The hounding of Catherine during her recovery should be evidence of how Harry and Meghan were hounded by the sleezy tabloids😶. Leave them alone.

Charles needs to let the hammer down.
