The rumours have been doing the rounds for a while, but Puck News now reporting it, which means it is very likely that their contract with Netflix will not be renewed.

"The streamer is not expected to renew its five-year, $100 million deal signed in 2020 with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Meghan’s passion project, the animated kids show Pearl, has already been canceled, and the unscripted cooking and polo offerings didn’t connect the way the royal couple’s Harry & Meghan did. "

I agree with some of what you say, but you only need to look at other royals to know that they often bring themselves into disrepute. Andrew, Charles even Philip. Go further back, the royals were synonymous with debauchery. Harry isn't the first and won't be the last. I also think people have been brainwashed if they think having a royal family brings the tourists. I think what annoys people is they decided to move and not have anything to do with the UK. Maybe it's not hate, but it is a weird, unnatural obsession.

As much as I agree the royals have always been debauched, I really think the6 behave as many others do , affairs, bitching, controlling, attention seeking, we see it the world over.

however I strongly disagree that the issue is they left the uk. I think very few people care about that, we are a global society, I think thr reason they garner so much attention is so seldom have we seen people behave like this, to have so much and to squander it all, to fail so spectacularly, and to sell stories on your family, to publicly lie, repeatedly. Thats why folks pay attention.

Speculation is feeding some outlets but it is more publicity for the couple.

“They have a couple of unscripted things they’re working on with Brandon [Riegg]. And they actually have, like, a bunch of development: they have a movie in development, a [scripted] series that they’re working on. So all very early development, with a movie, a TV show and a couple of unscripted shows. But yeah, the movie’s great.”

Details were kept minimal but last year the pair bought the rights to Carley Fortune’s bestselling romance novel Meet Me at the Lake about a couple who find love in their 30s.”

Waffle - a 'bunch' in development?

LimeBiscuit · 21/08/2024 11:32

Seeing as it quotes an actual named source it has far more validity than the rumour mill.

Plus this was followed by an endorsement from the Netflix CEO who backs them.

“Fans had been wondering whether the deal would be renewed, especially with Meghan returning her focus to podcasting. Netflix co-chief Ted Sarandos has now broken his silence and admitted he wants the Sussexes to keep creating content for Netflix. Ted also praised Harry and Meghan for being "great at getting attention". He added: "You may love them or hate them, but you're watching." The Netflix CEO then described the couple as "very strong storytellers".”

Since then she has finished her series.

I find it interesting that the papers are always on the back foot with Meghan and Harry. They announce on their terms and don’t address the rumours.

March 2024 - endorsed by Netflix CEO
July 2024 - finished filming Netflix series
August 2024 - high profile visit to Colombia

Now its a wait and see…

Sure but all, you’ve done is go back in time to find something positive about them?

CarmelaBrunella · 21/08/2024 11:43

Although I did laugh at them being
"very strong storytellers"! 😂
Yes, I think we can all agree that they're good storytellers!

LimeBiscuit · 21/08/2024 11:43

lol, oh my a few months is soooooo long ago.

This impatience for news about them just confirms what an actual, ya know, boss of Netflix has said on the record.

I watch for the (comic) disaster of it all. I don’t actually watch or read anything that requires me investing money in them but I’ll catch snippets on YouTube etc. It’s like going to play bingo and you just mark off all things you know are going to be on the card. They never fail at that, at least.

Rhaidimiddim · 21/08/2024 11:52

Gorgonemilezola · 21/08/2024 07:47

Why, when they've obviously received money from Netflix and PRH, do they have such a huge mortgage? Surely the first thing you'd do is pay that down to secure your home. Even if they didn't get $20m for Spare and $100m from Netflix they must have had a wodge of cash, enough to clear the mortgage, anyway.

Perhaps neither are savvy with money. Harry's had other people to make sure he had somewhere to live and money in his pocket. Did Meghan own a home previously?

Perhaps he put a wodge of cash away whete she can't touch it if rhey divorce. I've heard he said he wanted to preservebthe money he git frim himum for the chikdren.

They didn’t buy any rights to the book. Netflix did.

You seem quite agitated. We are just talking about whether it is likely Netflix will jettison, many of us feel there is weight behind that, you don’t and want to hang on to something the ceo said a few months ago, fair enough. Try not to take it so personally if they don’t get renewed.

WinnieTheW0rm · 21/08/2024 12:05

I'm not sure that "very strong storytellers" is a compliment!

And yes of course he knows they generate a lot of attention.

I took that interview to mean they wouldn't be pulling the contract early. But they need some of that ability to generate attention to translate in to viewing figures before the contract expires.

The Puck article is 5 months on from that. If the shows they have been brewing up do indeed attract the attention he expects, the perhaps all will be well. The Puck article suggests that audience testing has not had desirable results. There's no word on when either polo or cookery/friends/lifestyle will be launched, so we'll just have to wait.

If the cookery etc does not launch in time to sell stuff through ARO for Christmas (or as US based and cooking, then perhaps earlier at Thanksgiving?) then the rumours will fly again.

The polo could I suppose pop up at any time. And I think a previous poster got in right in saying it needs to be like "Sprint" - glamourous, fast-paced, competitive, the psychological race as well as the physical, fame, achievement, known "names" - and not like "The Unknown Runner" which is a lovely gentle programme about Kenyan elite distance runners, but which is very unlikely to appeal much beyond those with an existing interest in running or in Kenya (even if it does get pushed a bit around the times of major marathons)

Thursdaygirl · 21/08/2024 12:17

If Meghan wants to divorce Harry (it was a good idea to move to California) she’s definitely going to wait til he’s got all the money he’s expecting from any further inheritances. Then half is hers.

I suspect you’re right. Also, I wasn’t surprised she got herself knocked up so quickly after the wedding - pop out an heir or two and you’ve got a meal ticket for life.

coolmum123 · 21/08/2024 12:26

I don't hate them as that is a very strong word but I am royally irritated by them. I was meh about them when they got married Harry I liked, Meghan, I didn't know anything about her apart from she had a very annoying character in Suits (I did watch it until I got fed up of them striding into offices and shouting at the person in there 😂)

However my irritation with them stems from their hypocrisy starting with the preaching about being aware of our airmile usage and then they flew around in private jets and so many other things but that retort to the Queen's statement about 'service is universal' was gobsmacking! Has anyone ever spoken like that the late Queen?! It was unbelievable.

They could have been successful once they left the RF if they had been humble enough to appreciate their skills and lack of. Instead they tried to insert themselves as credible in subjects they have no experience nor knowledge of.

Also they want the massive income to fund their lifestyle but only work (apparently) one hour a day even Jeff Bezos works longer hours than that even after becoming a billionaire. Its like they live in a fantasy land. Which snakeoil salesman is telling them they can do it like this and be successful?

Sorry for the rant!! lol

Staunchlystarling · 21/08/2024 11:41

No, I queried what was said by Netflix.

Plenty of positives of late but this is about the so called ditching by Netflix of the ‘famous couple’. I guess we’ll know when it/if it happens. Personally, I am not gleeful about it one way or the other. I do hope that the ‘cooking’ show for want of a better word is successful though as I enjoyed Archetypes. There is Lemonada also to delve into next year.

To have any success with production is hugely difficult so it is a wait and see game, for now.

CarmelaBrunella · 21/08/2024 12:41

Not a rant. I think you've made some valid points, @coolmum123 . My issue is all the lies.

What annoys people is that they decided to move ...but still expect to have exactly the same relationship with the UK. Like asking for a separation but still wxpecting a FWB arrangement. And then trashed the UK's culture as racist.

CarmelaBrunella · 21/08/2024 12:45

They've moved, but are still trading on the royal family status.
That's hypocritical.

LimeBiscuit · 21/08/2024 12:50

Please provide evidence of trashing the UK ‘culture’ as racist and define what you mean by ‘culture’. I do recall them calling out the media and I do recall Meghan and Harry talking about Archie in the context of conversations around skin colour etc.

CarmelaBrunella · 21/08/2024 12:51

So, @LimeBiscuit how come Archie is Prince Archie - the claim was that he wouldn't get a title because of his skin colour?
