H & M announce a visit to Colombia

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announce they will visit Colombia

mol.im/a/13698271

Another country on the "Don't travel" list.

"But the UK and US governments have both issued security alerts over travelling to Colombia amid fears over crime, terrorism, civil unrest and kidnapping - and Harry's decision to visit comes amid his ongoing battle for his security when in Britain.
The UK's Foreign and Commonwealth Office 'advises against all but essential travel to parts of Colombia'. And the US Department of State issued a travel advisory for Colombia stating: 'Reconsider travel due to crime and terrorism. Exercise increased caution due to civil unrest and kidnapping. Some areas have increased risk.'"

Perhaps he thinks this is the way to get his security reconsidered? Personally I'd say the opposite.
If he still had UK security I'd expect them to do a risk assessment and say "NO".
Why should security personnel be put at risk by being required to travel to these dangerous destinations.

Sophie's work with VAWG is excellent, and it's a shame it doesn't get more publicity, but I suppose she's not really click bait or controversial, which always helps!
You're right, @MrsLeonFarrell and I do wish that H&M would address the online attacks of W, but especially Kate in the last 8 months or so. It really has been vile.

I think if they did it would help heal the family, it would get them a lot of respect and it would give their campaign a big boost.

How many parts of the UK are on the don't travel unless necessary 🤔

Yorkshire?

Yes, I agree. It would be the right thing to do. I hope that they address this, it seems to be something they are keen to be associated with, and it would certainly help relationships.

OlympicWomen · 02/08/2024 11:02

Excellent work 👍

Yorkshire?

Are you trying to reignite the War of the Roses?

MrsFinkelstein · 02/08/2024 11:25

Columbia is an amazing country and it would be great if this visit highlighted that.

It just seems a bit of another unforced error - it's hypocritical to say he feels the UK is unsafe for his family, then he and Meghan visit countries with travel advisory notices.

I think Harry is struggling to remain relevant and is floundering. Trying to keep doing stuff he did as a Senior Royal, but with little point or clarity.

jeffgoldblum · 02/08/2024 11:41

It's been pointed out that so far Harry and Meghan have visited ( or about to) 2 out of the 3 new countries to join invictus.
Nigeria
Columbia
Israel
Is this the reason?
Will they be visiting Israel next?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 02/08/2024 11:43

If Harry and Meghan keep going with the campaign against online bullying, at some point they are going to have to address the toxicity of the Sussex Squad because of the increasing profile that group has in the public arena, beginning when Catherine was sick. I suspect they are worried about a backlash from the squad but confronting them is the only ethical way forward

I agree completely with the principle, @MrsLeonFarrell, but sadly H&M have shown repeatedly that ethics come pretty low down in their priorities, and that while anyone's prepared to host their hypocritical comments about social media without incisive questioning they'll continue

You're also spot on about the wretched media and their clickbait, but then that's why some of us prefer to rely on what the couple have actually done or said

Will they be visiting Israel next?

Edited to add don't go there, @jeffgoldblum; please, please don't go there!! Wink

OlympicWomen · 02/08/2024 11:45

Well, Jeff, visiting Israel would be a security exercise on a whole other level. I'm going to say more dangerous than going to St Paul's Cathedral in a royal motorcade. But who knows.

OlympicWomen · 02/08/2024 11:47

Exactly, @Puzzledandpissedoff - best to rely on what the couple have said and done themselves. Proof enough of their awful attitude and behaviour.

I don't think any celebrity will be visiting Israel anytime soon. It is far too divisive.

The fact though that they are visiting new Invictus countries makes a lot of sense. Typical of the tabloids to try and use it to stir division.

jeffgoldblum · 02/08/2024 11:50

Sorry @Puzzledandpissedoff , not being controversial.
But previously it was pointed out during the Nigeria "tour" that it was to do with invictus, posters joked are they going to Columbia next?
Well here we are!
I'm no longer surprised!

I think though it shows that his court case about security isn't about facts, it's about his complicated feelings about status. Which means that this will only cease when he works through those feelings.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 02/08/2024 11:53

Sorry, not being controversial ...

There's nothing to apologise for, @jeffgoldblum, and I know you weren't ... I just meant that it doesn't bear thinking about, except while cringing behind a sofa!!

jeffgoldblum · 02/08/2024 11:59

Oh I know @Puzzledandpissedoff , just wanted to point out to all , that I consider this a real possibility now , previously I would have considered it a joke! 🤷‍♀️

sausawyee · 02/08/2024 11:59

They were invited by the Vice President who is quite a woman with a great deal of experience - certainly much more than the pampered pair. It does make me wonder though if Harry and Meghan think they are going on an unofficial trip on behalf of the USA this time.

I'm sure Meghan can tell her her P and G story 🙄😂

sausawyee · 02/08/2024 12:07

I had never heard of this woman but have done a great deal of reading about her. It is impressive but she is a divisive figure in Colombia and has had an assassination attempt made on her.

I wonder if she will tell that P&G story from the kitchen sink on the set of her new Netflix cooking and lifestyle tv show

Why are you asking for something that no member of the Royal Family gave Meghan? As has been highlighted in many, many places Meghan received death threats and terrible racist coverage in our national media. Not once did a member of the RF speak up about it. Instead it was left to ordinary decent people, women MPs, other countries and the formation of an online group of Sussex supporters to speak out. As with any supporters many of the Sussex Squad are unpalatable and over the top. However, just as many Catherine fans go for Meghan regularly and have said vile, criminal stuff that has led to prosecutions. Meghan and Harry have asked for peace for Catherine and Meghan herself said Catherine was a good person. I think considering the royal family did not have her back it is more than anyone would do in her position. I’ve no doubt the UK is in her rear view mirror and she is carrying on with her own life. She shows up and does good, always has done throughout her life. Rehashing the past does not achieve anything either.

sausawyee · 02/08/2024 12:47

There's so many holes in your story @ThePinkyFinger which have been discussed time over on here.

Yes, rehashing the past achieves nothing. So why not speak out against the Sussex Squad online bullying that is happening right now? To ignore it undermines their claims to be on a campaign against online bullying.
