Opinion - I do agree Meghan Markle received a crash course in racism that was called out very early on by Harry and then women MPs. For the future, the UK will be perceived as having missed their one golden opportunity. Not that Meghan cares anymore about our country, can’t say I blame her either. I despair about the blindness on both the left and the right. However, it may be the quiet conservatism of many that is preventing an open dialogue on matters that become so political. I am always curious about life, race and culture but I know any curiosity I have must be tempered with respect for differences and thinking how what I might say to someone will be received. I may have no ill intent expressing curiosity about skin colour but it is never something I would say about someone I did not know. Catherine clearly has a sensibility that I do not share and it points to a woman who is insular and not forward thinking. Catherine othered Meghan and she is now seen by many as a royal ‘Karen’, a product of her upper middle class background who more than anyone needed a crash course on the subject of race relations. A ‘baby brain’ text cited as not something to be said about herself when they did not know one another well is far less of a problem than othering all those who are not 100% white.

Absolute load of nonsense!

@Sunnydaysandthebeach - Kate is a royal "Karen"?!

What an odious comment!!

Catherine is largely a SAHM which is great. Wheeled out to perform when necessary, signs off on other people’s work with ‘early years are important’. Okayyyy. 😂 Who knew!

A Karen/Ken has a sense of entitlement which means they try to control or lecture others without any authority or reasonable need to do so. William and Catherine both did this to Meghan and Harry. A woman of substance arrived and they both hadn’t a clue…

What a load of bollocks.

"A woman of substance" my hairy hole!! Don't make me laugh! What "substance"???

Gorgonemilezola · 01/08/2024 23:44

'Catherine othered Meghan'. Nope.

'a sense of entitlement which means they try to control or lecture others without any authority or reasonable need to do so. William and Catherine both did this to Meghan and Harry. A woman of substance arrived and they both hadn’t a clue…'
And again, nope. No suggestion anywhere of Kate trying to lecture on control anyone. There do appear to have been instances of Meghan doing a bit of lecturing and she certainly seems to control Harry.

The only “othering” I see is the belittling and dehumanising of Catherine by Sussex supporters. And we all know where that narrative stems from.

I saw a woman who did not understand her own part in what took place between the two households that led to bad feelings. Even the comment ‘recollections may vary’ which was the immediate response is now known to have been Catherine’s and it shows her inherent denial that what she said caused offence to Meghan. The fact that it was immediately in a press notice signed off by the Queen shows conversations did take place and Meghan did not lie. It also shows how quickly the institution acts when it wants to protect both its image and its primary principals. Harry and Meghan must have once again realised just how the institution will react regarding its own interests and public facing image. Hopefully, the letters passed between Charles and Meghan will have resolved matters and that hurt feelings are no longer an issue for either side.

I thought it had been known for ages to be created by a group of senior royals in confab (with Katherine one of those most sure that wording such as that needing to be included). But it was IIRC attributed to "sources", which may or may not be right.

There were threads about that at the time

If this book is insinuating this is a revelation, then it's way off, and it also suggests the author has a low opinion of the target audience's ability to remember things. Or is there an actual named, credible source for this now

salem4cuddles · 01/08/2024 20:30

Are you just unable to understand that a Karen is a derogatory term?

Probably means only that she joined MN after the many threads on how very offensive the term is. But should now know.

And will no doubt desist from using a term that is provocative and tends to derail, unless of course the aim is to derail. So, back to the point....

Is there anything in the book that is actually new about Catherine? Or better sourced than hitherto?

Quite. And again, despite assertions to the contrary, the only negative comments are being directed to Catherine and William.

@Runnerinthenight 😂😂😂 your expressions

Obviously, as with anything, I encourage anyone to take the Vintage Read with a pinch of salt, but she's generally pretty fair in critiquing books.

She does note Jobson is explicit in linking the creation and spreading of the Rose Hanbury rumours to the Sussex Squad online.

Thanks Mrs F for posting this, I saw it yesterday and thought to myself, that’s one I will wait to buy from the charity shop. Shauna is wonderful, I love her lovely manner and great sense of humour, and she is always very fair in her reviews. She’s dissected and cross referenced pretty much every royal biography of recent times, so I trust her when she says Jobson’s book comes up short.

I never understand what's the point of all these books. Written by hangers-on based on "sources", it might or might not be true. OP please let us have your opinion.

I see that the disparaging comments about Harry and Meghan have started already though.

Your is the first mention of them on this thread, actually. Careful what you wish for, sugar.

Yeah sure

Brilliant! Don't know how I missed that one.
I picked up a copy of Endgame in the library the other day (it was showcased as a "Suggested Summer Read") and opened it at random
Immediately came upon some breakfast scene with Meghan flitting in a housewifely manner around the kitchen, and bluebirds helping her to stir the steel-cut oats while Harry sat adoring her... or some such drivel.
Decided my stomach wasn't up to it.
Also remembered that authors do get a very small amount of remuneration if their books are borrowed from the library. Doubt my loan would have made any difference but even so...
Think I got much more from the JC version.
Edited as got the blooming title wrong 🤦‍♀️

Thanks for the links to the John Crace articles! 😂brilliant! "To protect my privacy, I was going to have to invade theirs" 😂

Reading the "Endgame" link, I suspect some people would actually believe the claims! Very funny 🤣

i think the poster thought they were being clever in referring to the right wing rioters as “Kate’s friends”. 🙄
