I have seen several newspapers referring to this German documentary. It's the first I've heard of it.

ZDF is the equivalent of BBC in Germany so it would be fascinating to see what they've discovered. They would definitely not stoop to tabloid gossip and whatever is in the documentary is likely to be journalistically solid. It's also left leaning so quite unlikely that H&M would be able to play the racism card as a motivation for the film. Germany also has far more mainstream celebrities who are black or mixed race compared to the UK, due to American soldiers from WW2 starting families or (sadly in some cases) leaving behind illegitimate kids. The fact that Meghan is mixed race is a non-issue in the context of German media culture, although they do love gossip about the British Royal Family. Kate and Meghan are always used for clicks so that is probably the motivator behind the documentary.

BasiliskStare · 27/07/2024 13:38

As pps have said H&M will choose soft interviewers & that is up to them. But I think sometimes this doesn't do them any favours eg the Oprah one.

I know this would never happen but would it be very naughty of me to say I would have loved to see that Oprah interview with the same questions asked being conducted by Jeremy Paxman. I reckon there would be more blinking the headlamps than Ben Swain in "in The Thick of It "

Shame on me 😊

ABirdsEyeView · 27/07/2024 13:41

Oprah damaged her own brand with that interview imo. It made her look sloppy - there was no rigour. I used to have a lot of respect for Oprah but in her desire to get the exclusive, it's like she forgot to actually interview.

He's like the divorced husband who rewrites his previous life to convince himself he is doing the right thing and not to feel guilty.

I wonder where he gets THAT from🤔

BasiliskStare · 27/07/2024 13:47

@ABirdsEyeView I agree - it would have taken her research team about 20 mins to debunk eg the marriage in the garden and why Archie wasn't named a prince whilst QE was alive. Which she could then have asked about. Never mind her just taking their word for everything.

Absolutely soiled her credibility as an interviewer! She literally drank it all in and hammed it up as far as possible - then the truth started seeping through the cracks in the lies and Oprah's reputation was scorched!
Hasn't it been removed now from anything Oprah has a say over?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 27/07/2024 14:15

With this level of fact checking, we can be assured that the contents in the final documentary are true

I expect most will do some fact checking if only to avoid lawsuits, but it doesn't necessarily follow that what remains will be truthful, especially if it's little more than anecdotes from anyone claiming to know Meghan

There's been so much nonsense talked that I want proof these days, including from H&M, but I do agree that this latest thing may tell us little that we don't already know and that they're probably just puffing it up - after all it's what they all do

Oprah was salivating at the thought of this interview. I believe she portrays a very - can't say it - attitude.

Is this the one where the guy goes to the Archwell offices and finds them completely empty?

Poor woman. What an awful thing, to have her past and mistakes on show for the world to see - it's harassment on a global scale. Nobody's perfect, everyone has something they're ashamed of or have lied about.

Yeah well she didn’t take issue with that in the Oprah or Netflix doc did she.

I do wonder whether Oprah was only granted the interview on the basis that she was completely compliant. What she probably hadn’t anticipated for a number of reasons is just how often Harry and Meghan’s truth was removed from reality.

BasiliskStare · 27/07/2024 15:52

I suspect it was Oprah because she is so very very famous. & yes I suspect she really wanted that interview. What I would be interested in is whether Oprah thinks they played her like a ten bob fiddle or she regrets not researching the facts behind some of the questions.

Of course as O is a billionaire she may not care - But just accepting some of those answers without the teeniest comeback I wonder if she does worry about her reputation. So a small example - M - I don't think people realised we were married in the yard 3 days before. Had Oprah said - were you officially married or is that when you felt like you were married would not have been over the top. Had M said - that day ( the rehearsal ) "That's when we felt we were married " that's fine - her feelings - not fine presented as fact & embarrassing when the ABoC contradicts her.

I get the impression Oprah does think that. As pps have said, she's had the interview scrubbed from everywhere she possibly can.

I don't feel sorry for Oprah - she's a very powerful and self-interested woman, but she must have cringed as so many of the things she appeared to swallow whole (and with OTT histrionics) have been retracted or easily refuted.

Please show us Meghan’s “disturbing jealousy of Catherine.”
I haven’t seen evidence of that.
Anywhere.
However, you seem to be consumed with your hatred of Meghan.
That’s obvious in your post.

Have you read Spare?

BasiliskStare · 27/07/2024 17:29

@CoffeeCantata - Let me be clear I don't feel sorry for Oprah - as you so rightly say - rich beyond Croesus very powerful woman . I just wonder if she doesn't look back and say "was that my finest moment. " I don't think it was but who am I to say - neither rich nor famous me . Even with all those squlillions I suspect Oprah does have some self respect about her job.

I don't know but if I were her ( which I am not ) I would not touch M&H with a bargepole from now on.

How the other half live eh? 😊

Runnerinthenight · 27/07/2024 18:35

butterbeansauce · 27/07/2024 10:24

And have they condemned the attacks on her?

The abuse she gets is unrelenting.

No-one short of a child abuser or murderer should be subjected to this sort of scale of scrutiny.

Equally I don't think W & K should either. Taking sides as if it's a football team is repugnant. These are people's lives and constantly speculating if someone is going to get divorced, has a personality disorder, is generally a bitch is enough to send anyone over the edge. It's quite disgusting and I don't know how they're allowed to print this stuff.

They haven't because that's not their 'modus operandi'. They don't comment on any of it. M&H do.

Plus M&H publicly disparaged members of the RF. I have zero sympathy with them. They can dish it out but can't take it.

DH has a good friend from home and uni who writes for a UK broadsheet and is based in California. He has said all along there is a lot of stuff being sat on about MM's past - stuff about her behaviour, treatment of other people, her 're-writing her past' and including photos. He said the British secret services removed stuff that was in the public domain but that some papers were ahead of them and have copies locked away.
No idea if it's true but he has been consistent about it.

Although the remit of the security and intelligence services includes dealing with threats to British democracy (which include destabilising the head of state by non-democratic means) and the prevention of serious international crime, I don't think the reputation of the wife of the 5th in line to the throne is going to make it on to their "to do" list.

If there are hostile states manipulating SM, that might be noted, but they will be vastly more concerned with the aims of those bad actors and identifying their bot accounts (to help identify their other activities)

Puzzledandpissedoff · 27/07/2024 19:20

That's not quite right, @Runnerinthenight; there are very many reports of a palace spokesperson saying something to various media in support of H&M, but I ignore those because "sources" can be made up

However there's also this, which actually came from Kensington Palace (see first item on the list): https://ladysinclair.substack.com/p/did-the-palace-never-protect-meghan

AnnHistorian · 27/07/2024 19:20

Meghan has a tell when she wants Harry to go along with whatever she's saying. You can see it in the engagement interview, the Oprah interview and the curtsey story. Why he goes along with it is unclear.

Oprah has, I think, said she views it as her best ever interview. I find that astonishing. She didn't press them, she didn't question a thing they said. Just lapped it alllll up.

AnnHistorian · 27/07/2024 19:25

That's nothing new for Oprah. She did an interview with Whitney Houston lapping up her story about being sober for months when she was obviously high as a kite to anyone watching.

It's been pretty rare when a statement has been issued; normally they don't. Like the one Harry rushed out in support of Meghan.

Bet it made her a lot of $$$$$ though. No wonder she was thrilled, even if she did end up looking a bit foolish and gullible.

BasiliskStare · 27/07/2024 19:34

@JohnnyAndTheDead - Well that told me ( in a nice way ) - & I am absolutely prepared to believe you. But if I were Oprah - I wouldn't say her best interview ever - but I am not she. 😊💐 Interesting to hear
