You’ve said you’ve seen him show up and shake a few hands. I’m assuming from this post that’s all you’ve seen since you are apparently able to say nothing more and that you have absolutely no evidence to say he’s doing ‘work behind the scenes’ as you claim.

As you say, you aren’t going to change my mind when you can produce nothing that might cause me to do so.

I said no such thing.
I've no Idea why it's such a struggle to read my posts. If you dislike him and want to disbelieve any positive stories, fine. No skin off my nose. Just don't fail to read then claim wrong information.

CandidHedgehog · 25/07/2024 19:26

Well you’re right about one thing - you aren’t convincing me in the slightest.😀

I think it's a bit pointless to say things like "oh I know him and he is lovely and works hard" because really there is no way of knowing if you're telling the truth or exaggerating what you do know.

I could say that I know a few people who work for the Royal Foundation - some on homelessness and early years - and they are.. not as positive about Kate and William. It's true but it's equally pointless as I doubt any of the posters who are fans of William and Kate would believe me.

CarmelaBrunella · 25/07/2024 19:32

@spriots I knew, absolutely, that those on here with a strong dislike for William would be instantly dismissive. Sometimes, though, you do come across people who are prepared to take blinkers off and consider the situation with evidence eg the articles posted above. You don't? I don't particularly care. I try to judge people on their actions rather than gossip. I don't believe some of the nonsense on here about Meghan and Harry, and I do like to keep an open mind. However, this isn't the sort of thread for that, is it?.😉

Because I have worked on one of the projects. He talks to everyone, the people working there, all the homeless people, the planners and builders. He arrived in a car with one other person, no entourage, no press, no fanfare. He sat and had a cuppa with three guys, learning their stories. I thought he was very genuine and sincere but of course this will be criticised in some way, which is sad.

This is what William did.

CandidHedgehog · 25/07/2024 19:34

AvrielFinch · 25/07/2024 19:33

This is what William did.

So showed up, talked to people and had a cup of tea. Just like I said.

Evidence he does any work behind the scenes? None.

spriots · 25/07/2024 19:37

The articles about homelessness and William are full of ambition, I don't think we can say anything about achievements, it's too early. I would be thrilled if he solves homelessness. I just think the plans are very full of bland aspirations and quite light on what they will actually do. A lot of phrases like "galvanising coalitions" that sound good but are light on sense. And the news page is basically a lot of photos to make William look good..

It’s a bit like Kate’s early years. Six years to come up with the conclusion that the early years are important. Somehow I suspect actual experts in the field had some idea of that already.

Next step? Is there a next step? She apparently intends to ‘draw people together’ (as William apparently intends with homelessness).

It sounds suspiciously to me that that for both of them that means ‘take credit for work that would be done with or without me’. OK, they may raise the profile a bit but their work is hardly innovative - not like the organisations set up by Phillip, Charles or Harry.

CandidHedgehog · 25/07/2024 18:39

So do you have any evidence that he does do more than show up for a cup of tea occasionally? Because as far as I can see other than saying he would build 24 homes in Cornwall (and there’s no evidence he’s done more than slap his name on that initiative which in any event is hardly likely to make a major impact) I can’t see he’s actually done more than talk.

Also Charles was already doing this, and has built a village of sustainable housing. I dont know how affordable it is, or how successful becsuse we never know. William isn't doing anything groundbreaking. He just has a lot of people saying how amazing he is. I have a lit of respect for Charles and Camilla for their clear work with charities that achieve things. As I said before, I think William and Harry are the same. Eill do whatever it takes to cling onto their position. For William it is paying lip service to whatever his pet project is. For Harry it is whining and lashing out at the press. But at least he has done what he has with Invictus. @candidhedgehog Be fair, we now know we need to nurture our children!
Neither of them can do anything about these issues without being political, and without huge amounts of money being thrown at them. Kate would gave done well working on girls sports or something. Something that is less complex and more in her comfort zone. The early years looks like something some courtiers has suggested because she is a mum and she can take lots of pictures with toddlers.

CurlewKate · 25/07/2024 19:51

@CarmelaBrunella I don't particularly dislike him- but it is a bit puzzling that you aren't more forthcoming about what he actually does. I've asked several times- and you are obviously well placed to tell us. I like experts!

Edited

As you can tell from the previous posts, I agree with you on William.

Sadly, I also agree with you on Harry. I actually think he and Meghan are not particularly good for each other. They were (in my opinion) mistreated by the RF and the British media and I note Harry actually won at least one of his phone hacking cases. However, they are now reinforcing each other’s sense of injury which isn’t good for either of them. They need to make money - I agree their security is needed - but I think Harry would be much happier if he could go back to full time charity work with veterans - that seems to be where he is happiest.

This is really shitty. That’s a child.

sausawyee · 25/07/2024 20:00

@CandidHedgehog what initiatives are there that have not already been thought about? We're not looking for Leonardo da Vinci here - it's all about endorsement. 🙄

salem4cuddles · 25/07/2024 20:00

That's a child for goodness sake

I think, @CurlewKate that you are genuinely interested, so thank you. I'm no expert! Just keenly involved. I think I'm going to leave it here because it's all too polarised on this thread and I can see how the wind is blowing, but thanks 👍

Your input has been really informative

Likewhatever · 25/07/2024 20:04

I’ve got another one.

I don’t give the tiniest weeniest shit that Kate is a SAHM. Lots of people are. I was. Good luck to her.

Also - I give only a tiny bit more of a shit that William is taking it a bit easy on the old royalling. Once he’s in the Top Job that’s probably going to be it. He’s going to be doing it for a lot of years. The Queen (the proper one) understood this and supported him spending time with his family.

I’ll admit I’d like to see a bit more of him Princeing for his money, but this year has been such a stinker for him.

edited for typo

But that’s not how they present it - both Kate and William claim to be presenting something new and to be doing substantive work (which never seems to result in anything) behind the scenes.

If they copied the Queen and just showed up to endorse and raise the profile the work done by other people, I’d have no problem with them. It’s the pretence they are doing more than that that I have an issue with.

Edited to say: By ‘the Queen’, I mean Camilla - she doesn’t pretend she’s doing groundbreaking work in osteoporosis, she just puts in the hard work to publicly raise the profile. The same for her work in domestic violence - she shows up and packs toiletry bags for rape suites, she doesn’t pretend she’s leading initiatives to stop rape.
