Perhaps some organisation will organise a glitzy "awards" ceremony with celebrities and the media. Perhaps William could tearfully go on stage and accept a trophy , an award for some of his patronages? Maybe people could then be persuaded he does some work?
Seems like an odd approach. I prefer someone to do actual work, rather than just take the credit for self aggrandisement.

William gives out the awards; he's not the recipient

Another unpopular opinion - people are really happy and indeed honoured to be on the Honours List, are delighted to be guests at a Palace; and the population in general is perfectly happy with the system as it is for recognising community work (political honours being a totally different kettle of fish)

CarmelaBrunella · 25/07/2024 18:26

Exactly, @EdithWeston . That's how it should be.

Harry says that his nickname is Harold in Spare. Same with Willy for William 😃

Yes. I read that somewhere so that's why I said: "Harold" and "Willy" are William's and Harry's nicknames for each other"
I'm just surprised that Harry fans are adopting William's nickname for him rather than Harry's real name of Henry.
Just my musings.

I think you didn't quite get this:

Perhaps William could tearfully go on stage and accept a trophy , an award for some of his patronages?

😉

Well that would require William to actually do something to deserve an award so I can’t see that happening any time soon.

So sad that even with the example of his little brother starting the Invictus Games with probably a tenth of the support William would get, plus the examples of the Prince of Wales Foundation and the Duke of Edinburgh awards, William still can’t manage to do more than talk about how nice it would be if homelessness went away …somehow…because it’s bad….and he doesn’t like it.

Also who the he'll cares about this? So some rich people pat each other on the back and give Harry some obscure trophy? No one knows or cares about these awards, unless they are given to Harry and the British tabloids go into a tailspin about what an insult they are to the Royal Family!
Maybe the free publicity is whybthey are given? It's the people who are permanently offended by the Sussex estate and everyinging they do sndxsay that is keeping them relevant. If they paid for pap shots and awards but the British tabloids didn't decide to write 500 stories about each event they wouldn't do it.

CarmelaBrunella · 25/07/2024 18:16

You have no idea what he does. Don't be so dismissive of someone's project like this.
You don't like him? Fine. However, to be so negative on the basis of scant evidence seems very poor to me, whether you like the person or not.

So do you have any evidence that he does do more than show up for a cup of tea occasionally? Because as far as I can see other than saying he would build 24 homes in Cornwall (and there’s no evidence he’s done more than slap his name on that initiative which in any event is hardly likely to make a major impact) I can’t see he’s actually done more than talk.

salem4cuddles · 25/07/2024 18:41

@CandidHedgehog I can't see what Harry has actually done to achieve awards

Oh, I got it.

I see it as fanciful and misplaced, because his role and status is different.

What awards to the RF accept? SPOTY, plus a nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize, but have there been any others in the last 50 years or so?

Getting the right people round the table to talk, and having a mechanism to see if they do as they say, is no small feat.

Yes, they could have done it without him, but it seems they weren't for if they were, there would have been no space for the initiative) and there's an impressive roll of participants, all of whom have publicly welcomed it (yes, I know they would hardly have panned it, but there seems to be real enthusiasm, as well as welcoming the increased profile)

Well, I have already said so. This is because I've been there and seen it. You're obviously intent on dismissing this. You won't change your mind. Fine.

CarmelaBrunella · 25/07/2024 18:52

@EdithWeston yes, you should see the level of detail and involvement, the whole thing isn't a flash in the pan for the headlines. I think that's what's going against William; he's not seeking celebrity.

People don’t care really as these people are far too removed from the plebs. Some like to argue so what better topic than a family that appears polarised through the lens of the tabloids. I swear I will wet myself when Harry and William appear together showing brotherly solidarity in due course. They’ll have to find another bone to scrap over. 😂

Probably a bit of fun in the Windsor Games 2024. 😉🏆

@CarmelaBrunella I quite understand that him turning up and taking a proper interest must be really good for morale. And that's a significant chunk of money. I just don't see how what he's doing is hard work for an active youngish man and how he adds value.

If you don’t think starting the Invictus Games and all the work he’s done for it since isn’t enough then I really don’t know what to say.

Well, he is, genuinely, very involved, very hands on and very well informed. However, certain people on here don't want to believe it because they don't like him, their choice.

You’ve said you’ve seen him show up and shake a few hands. I’m assuming from this post that’s all you’ve seen since you are apparently able to say nothing more and that you have absolutely no evidence to say he’s doing ‘work behind the scenes’ as you claim.

As you say, you aren’t going to change my mind when you can produce nothing that might cause me to do so.

@CarmelaBrunella "Well, he is, genuinely, very involved, very hands on and very well informed. However, certain people on here don't want to believe it because they don't like him, their choice."

I'm not denying it. I just don't understand what he can actually contribute practically. What expertise does he have? What hands on stuff does he do? I'm sure he's very well informed- I used to write briefing for quite senior (although less senior than the PoW) and they were very well informed by the time they'd read their papers!
