Sussex Whiplash

Sometimes, all the different media outlets who purport to know the inner workings of all things Sussex can give me whiplash. One moment the Sussex duo are on the outs with everyone, hemorrhaging or devoid of influential friends, making no headway with Netflix, losing money, can’t afford their mortgage and claimed to no longer be relevant. Then Suits saw an upsurge in viewers - fantastic ratings on Netflix, the BBC buys Suits, Invictus is being promoted via Harry’s award and trips, he receives a heartfelt standing ovation, Meghan finishes filming a new Netflix series purportedly linked to a nascent commercial venture and a new podcast is set for next year.

‘Lonely’ Harry, as some will insist on writing, is also not something that rings true for me. He has too much charisma, energy, interests, causes and is a people person. I also cannot think of anyone who needs to say I am friends with x, y, and z on a regular basis for the benefit or not of strangers. We don’t know who they are friends with, really. Meanwhile, pundits continue to engage those interested in the couple with whatever they can attributing the information to some made up mysterious ‘sources’. I suspect their real friends are quietly keeping their own counsel. Especially, now they have seen the mutual pathological loathing that Harry and the tabloids have towards one another. Can’t say I blame them either.

Now there is this:

Considering Whoopi G had less than favourable words for the couple I’d like to have been a fly on the wall at any meetings held. No doubt ‘netizens’ will have their microscopes to the ready to give us all their ‘insights’ regarding the events of the evening. No doubt I’ll get whiplash again when all their combined fingers hit the keyboards.

If Charles is benefitting from "the spoils of colonisation" then Harry is. If Harry is, then Archie and Lilibet are.
So in 20 years time do we expect an apology from them?

popthepopcorns · 21/07/2024 11:40

IsoldeWagner · 21/07/2024 09:07

That was so funny 🤣! They really are entertaining.
Did you see Harry's thunder face as they walked down the aisle? A proper teenage grimace 😂

Yes, remembering those sorts of incidents makes me wish they'd never left. Endless entertainment.

PrincessMee · 21/07/2024 11:41

"I’ve got plenty of criticisms of Harry but can see how this all works on here now. He can not be granted any grace at all. Everything he does is wrong, self serving etc etc etc."

Never a truer word was spoken about Harry. This is how he is perceived on the global stage now due to his antics. He brought it on himself.

I know, they're often unintentionally very funny 🤣

@IcedPurple this is the problem with many posters who are not actually familiar with the British system. They have an idea in their head of how the Royal Family operates based on their ludicrous ideas that come from some stupid American movie.

Our local library had a book sale recently and Spare was in the 25p pile . Can anyone beat that ??

It's in the old telephone box library in the next village for free?

TheRecollectionOfTheGhostsMayVary8 · 21/07/2024 11:50

I completely agree @CoffeeCantata

He chose the dollar instead of dignity.

I do feel sorry for the children too but it is what it is.

They will not be trusted either.

Having seen the damage done to a child who was encouraged to report everything they saw in another household and who had heard derogatory comments being made day after day, year after year?

Might be best they keep a healthy distance until such times they are able to make a considered opinion about matters.

@Mylovelygreendress - see if you can watch it, it's so funny! Harry's face throughout is an absolute picture. W&C decided to not show H&M up, but they always manage to show themselves up anyway! Once again, less about the Commonwealth, more about their status.

The "face" made me think for the first time that perhaps Harry wasn't quite so loveable and caring as I'd always thought he was. I honestly wouldn't have been surprised if he'd thumped someone.

I suppose those who blame Charles for getting a bit agitated about a pen (the day after his mother died) think the display at the Commonwealth service was just fine.

IsoldeWagner · 21/07/2024 11:53

One rule for Harry, one for the rest of the RF.
Harry's behaviour is set to a very low bar for some.

PrincessMee · 21/07/2024 11:53

Gorgonemilezola · 21/07/2024 10:09

'Everything he does is wrong, self serving etc etc etc.'
It quite often is though. Possibly not through Harry's decisions alone, but the Oprah interview and Nigerian visit particularly spring to mind.

There has been talk before about Meghan not understanding the British culture and the reality of the British Royal Family when she came to live in the UK. I think it has worked in reverse with Harry and Meghan's show biz culture. Possibly he THOUGHT he knew how it was going to work but in the end he was mistaken. He was lured by people wanting to listen to him - starting with Meghan- and he was probably thrilled. Here was his chance to be more than a Spare. He didn't realise how dog eat dog it really is in that world and he had no experience of that in his privileged life. Meghan doesn't care about his family but I imagine that underneath he still does.

PrincessMee · 21/07/2024 11:56

Hughs · 21/07/2024 09:05

The mention of status and H+M's penchant for it reminded me of the Commonwealth service just before they left, when they pushed through the row of chairs in front of them rather than filing out normally - to avoid the risk of being behind Edward and Sophie as everyone walked out of the abbey 🤪

That is just so embarrassing 🙈. Sad and pathetic too. It is in line with imitation marching.

LactoseDeservesTolerance · 21/07/2024 11:58

The reason Harry is never granted any grace is that he never admits to any mistakes and he never seems to grant any grace to others.

He has made his complaints about his family public, knowing they have a policy of not responding. Yet he fails to do any meaningful public self-reflection.

Why would anyone expect him to be greeted with empathy and understanding when all he does is sit in judgement of others?

Oh, they’ll blame Charles for that, too.

MummyJ12 · 21/07/2024 12:00

I don’t know if he still cares for his family in the UK and misses them in the respect that most of us would miss our families, or if he is just starting to realise what he’s given up. The security behind the palace walls of not just physical security, but financial security and the palace PR machine that obviously did such a wonderful job at managing his image. He took all of this for granted, probably thought it was easy, but it isn’t. He’s having to navigate all of this for himself now and it keeps going wrong for him and for Meghan. He is probably shocked by how it’s turned out.

Just found and watched it ! Oh dear how awkward ….
They really are the gift that keeps on giving .

BigWillyLittleTodger · 21/07/2024 12:05

Anne Boleyn? Half a millennium ago? Compared to less than 70 years?

Dear me, do I have to explain sarcasm to you? 🙄

The British govt have stopped short’ . Charles is sitying on vast pile of wealth surrounded by the spoils of colonisation. This is not only a UK govt problem. It’s also a problem for Charles and family - Harry included- and it’s Charles’ duty as King and head of his household to say the words.

You do realise this is a worldwide problem don’t you? It’s not only Charles who is surrounded by the spoils of colonialism, millions upon millions of people around the world, maybe even you have benefited from what your ancestors did. It isn’t up to Charles ‘to say those words’ he is Head of State he cannot say anything unless the Government order him to do so, however Harry who is not handcuffed in any way can say exactly what he likes as we have seen countless times over, he is happy to ‘hold talks’ with the First Nations Chief about the Crown’s historic commitment to indigenous people when he had absolutely no place to do so, yet on Africa Parks where he is the President we get some bland statement and then tumbleweed.

BigWillyLittleTodger · 21/07/2024 12:15

No I did not say it’s basically fine for Harry to do ‘fuck all’ . So don’t twist my words.

I said I’m waiting to hear further from Harry too. Just like I’m waiting to hear Charles’ apology to Kenya. It’s not whataboutery, it’s about how similar they all are.

Ok then, you will have to wait for the Governments response on Kenya, it’s not up to Charles, his hands are tied whatever his personal feelings. How long will you give the President of Africa Parks his Royal Highness Prince Harry a free pass on the atrocities that are happening today under his watch?

LactoseDeservesTolerance · 21/07/2024 12:20

Are we waiting for the Romans to apologize to GB then also?
