A fitting endorsement from Fred Hargreaves OBE who on X wrote, “As ever, a genuine and heart-felt speech from the Duke of Sussex - the driving force and passion behind the #InvictusGames. So good to see this Award, and share the stage with Elizabeth, Kirsty and Israel.”

From the Royal Website, how the ‘driving force’ - Harry - brought Invictus into being:

https://www.royal.uk/invictus-games

Positive Harry posts have been flooding X. Haters were out too. Some negatively posting in a quasi-forensic manner. No ‘gotcha’ revelations, however, nor tens of thousands of likes which the repost of Harry’s speech on ESPN by the knowledgeable Robert Griffin III now has. In less than 2 days 51+K likes and still rising.

I also checked out some (too many) #Sussexsquad posters. It revealed teachers, veterans, different nationalities, colours, creeds, nurses, retired folk etc etc. Thus I formed a completely different understanding about the use of the hashtag to support the Sussex family. There were also very strange users of the hashtag too. The hashtag was additionally utilised to send the message out on X to put the anti-Harry and Meghan posters or ‘derangers’, as they are often called, on mute and not to engage. Quite a restrained and civil position to promote and many did just that. Invictus awareness was successfully brought to those who had never heard of the international fraternity of veterans with disabilities and injuries by this hashtag alone.

Watching the videos on X I saw Harry speak with sincerity and humility under pressure. His words, “The truth is, I stand here not as Prince Harry, Pat Tillman Award recipient, but rather a voice on behalf of the Invictus Games Foundation and the thousands of veterans and service personnel from over 20 nations who have made the Invictus Games a reality. This award belongs to them. Not to me.”

Harry has now been awarded, by a very diverse online presence, a new respect. And I do believe he’s also a jolly good fellow…and so say many, many, many of us. 😊💙

I am so glad I went on my very new X twitter account for I was disgusted with the Daily Mail’s use of Pat Tillman’s mother to denigrate Prince Harry as it was totally uncalled for. Call it for what it was - a hit piece of journalism designed to create a mini storm online. We know nothing about the context of how they obtained words supposedly said by Pat’s mother about Harrry. I was aghast too at how Pat’s widow has also been treated by some online posters. Her foundation may not be perfect but she does more than anyone to honour him. Pat’s mother also did not go on any mainstream American media either where her complaints would have been listened to and would have provided the much needed context for the hate motivated article by a newspaper under the spotlight for its nefarious journalism and click bait articles about Harry.

Harry’s response was beautiful. The way Harry acknowledged Pat’s mother went further than him being a royal. It was a standout out moment of what being human is all about. I do believe he’s also a jolly good fellow…and so say many, many, many of us. 😊💙

I know, smilesy - I read the link you were kind enough to post earlier - but I'll be absolutely amazed if in reality it doesn't cost Birmingham a great deal

To say nothing of how it may look to all those who've been told "We can't afford that ..."

Yes Puzzled, I agree it’s not a good look in a bankrupt city

I’m wondering if it was deliberately done to keep Meghan away 😂😂

Earole · 23/07/2024 12:28

The Invictus games is a big platform for Meghan to showcase herself but I do wonder if she'll have the nerve to attend. I also wonder if Harry will have been replaced by then .

DelectableMe · 23/07/2024 12:33

I think she'll have the nerve to attend, @Earole because it's a very important event for her, it's good publicity and she's modelling clothes.

I am not sure given her feelings about the U.K. . There is a very real chance that they will be booed ( again) . I am sure that Meghan would have much preferred the event to be held in Washington where she could hobnob with politicians and celebs.

MummyJ12 · 23/07/2024 13:03

It wouldn’t surprise me if it’s been a knee jerk response to the overwhelming Trump lead. Yet now a real contender has replaced Biden’s nomination so they may now wish they’d have waited a bit longer to announce it!

Yes, that's a good point. We'll see.

Just lost a line there...

And look at their (attempted) retraction of so much that they alleged to OW when they realised that telling the actual truth, rather than their "own truth", might be to their advantage. I'm sure H will want to take back a lot of what was written in Spare once it starts to impact his life and freedom in the US.

Too early in the morning...

Probably why there's no paperback edition. Too many passages that can be shown to be factually wrong; leaving a dilemma about whether it can indeed be reprinted in its current form.

DelectableMe · 23/07/2024 13:39

What's the truth though?
What are the lies?
They've contradicted themselves so many times and have been proven liars.
Oh what a tangled web......

Nosummerontheagenda · 23/07/2024 13:48

Puzzledandpissedoff · 23/07/2024 12:10

In all honesty no, but remembering that I don't know them personally and that this involves a very worthwhile cause I try to hang onto hope that this time will be different - though with each crass choice that hope's getting very thin now

It's also why I'm coming more and more to the view that Invictus might do better with a different Patron, while recognising that's their chouce to make

I think Harry would still turn up with M in tow making everything about herself.

Mylovelygreendress · 23/07/2024 15:33

But what about security ? I thought the U.K. isn’t safe ? Unlike Nigeria .

Dominic Reid's departure starts to look more interesting.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 23/07/2024 15:39

That's the kind of thing I meant, Mylovelygreendress; Harry's still arguing the toss over security and I wouldn't put it past him to invent problems while in the UK in an attempt to make some silly point

And I really don't think the vets need that kind of distraction

salem4cuddles · 23/07/2024 19:14

2027 is a long way away, anything could happen in the Sussex household......the jam making might come to fruition after all

You're right - it's a long way off and the Sussex's situation, and the world in general. might be very different by then. I suppose the immediate effect on H & M will be that (being in Birmingham, UK) it's something for them to worry about for the future, rather than look forward to with confidence.

FloofPaws · 24/07/2024 06:36

DelectableMe · 23/07/2024 11:45

I think they always planned to monetise the mythical "victimhood". They couldn't get their own way? Blame the RF. Lots of opportunity to be negative, critical and dishonest for cash.

Yep, spoilt little brats! Honestly they should be in school ties and pig tails they're such playground bullies and chucking toys out of the pram when someone says no - Meghan hates Britain because they see through her

sausawyee · 24/07/2024 10:15

I very much doubt if Meghan would come to the UK. The British public are a harsh audience. If she did I imagine it would be handled so that she is not open to any audience other than the Invictus. Their dilemma is to bring the children or not - bringing the children would really distract even more from the athletes. Not bringing them makes them look like the people who are withholding from the RF. However as others have said three years is a very long time in the world of showbiz.

Dominic Reid's departure starts to look more interesting.

The revelation of the 2027 host city was supposed to happen at the end of this month. Birmingham was confirmed to People magazine before it went up on the Invictus website. I would say that someone is trying to distract from the speculation over the reason and odd timing of Reid’s departure.

Nevermetaghostididntlike · 24/07/2024 12:04

Congratulations Birmingham! Well deserved.

So many of the posters who support H&M did not want this to happen. They’ve not been around (as far I as I can tell) since the Kate cancer news blew up here, but I’m surprised to see anyone who likes Harry and Meghan celebrating this decision.

There was some speculation as well that both it and Meghan’s lunch date were timed to upstage George’s birthday 🤷‍♀️

I thought that too at first, but now I am not so sure. I think the lunch pap in full on Diana gear (casual, as Harry would have remembered her, wearing identical watch and the handbag that was named after her) is a message to Harry. If Birmingham means him spending a lot of time in the UK without her and possibly reconnecting with friends and family, perhaps she’s reminding him that she too can do a Martin Bashir-esque interview or similar if he pulls away from her. I’m sure she is mightily pissed off it’s not Washington, where she’ll have had the chance to connect with political players in the run up to the 2028 election, and obviously on home soil, psychologically safer for her than the UK.

DelectableMe · 24/07/2024 16:39

Very interesting theory, @Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar

CoffeeCantata · 24/07/2024 17:14

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · Today 16:38

Oh, that's a horrible thought! And unfortunately, I can visualise Meghan, with plenty of eyeliner and a strategic tear forming in her left eye, telling the world how cruelly she was treated not only by the RF but by Harry as well.

Uricon2 · 24/07/2024 17:29

If my memory serves @Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar I think that actually IS Diana's watch. Nothing wrong with heirlooms of course, but the constant invokations of her memory and other imitations make it all a bit...something.
