A fitting endorsement from Fred Hargreaves OBE who on X wrote, “As ever, a genuine and heart-felt speech from the Duke of Sussex - the driving force and passion behind the #InvictusGames. So good to see this Award, and share the stage with Elizabeth, Kirsty and Israel.”

From the Royal Website, how the ‘driving force’ - Harry - brought Invictus into being:

https://www.royal.uk/invictus-games

Positive Harry posts have been flooding X. Haters were out too. Some negatively posting in a quasi-forensic manner. No ‘gotcha’ revelations, however, nor tens of thousands of likes which the repost of Harry’s speech on ESPN by the knowledgeable Robert Griffin III now has. In less than 2 days 51+K likes and still rising.

I also checked out some (too many) #Sussexsquad posters. It revealed teachers, veterans, different nationalities, colours, creeds, nurses, retired folk etc etc. Thus I formed a completely different understanding about the use of the hashtag to support the Sussex family. There were also very strange users of the hashtag too. The hashtag was additionally utilised to send the message out on X to put the anti-Harry and Meghan posters or ‘derangers’, as they are often called, on mute and not to engage. Quite a restrained and civil position to promote and many did just that. Invictus awareness was successfully brought to those who had never heard of the international fraternity of veterans with disabilities and injuries by this hashtag alone.

Watching the videos on X I saw Harry speak with sincerity and humility under pressure. His words, “The truth is, I stand here not as Prince Harry, Pat Tillman Award recipient, but rather a voice on behalf of the Invictus Games Foundation and the thousands of veterans and service personnel from over 20 nations who have made the Invictus Games a reality. This award belongs to them. Not to me.”

Harry has now been awarded, by a very diverse online presence, a new respect. And I do believe he’s also a jolly good fellow…and so say many, many, many of us. 😊💙

I am so glad I went on my very new X twitter account for I was disgusted with the Daily Mail’s use of Pat Tillman’s mother to denigrate Prince Harry as it was totally uncalled for. Call it for what it was - a hit piece of journalism designed to create a mini storm online. We know nothing about the context of how they obtained words supposedly said by Pat’s mother about Harrry. I was aghast too at how Pat’s widow has also been treated by some online posters. Her foundation may not be perfect but she does more than anyone to honour him. Pat’s mother also did not go on any mainstream American media either where her complaints would have been listened to and would have provided the much needed context for the hate motivated article by a newspaper under the spotlight for its nefarious journalism and click bait articles about Harry.

Harry’s response was beautiful. The way Harry acknowledged Pat’s mother went further than him being a royal. It was a standout out moment of what being human is all about. I do believe he’s also a jolly good fellow…and so say many, many, many of us. 😊💙

Why would they need to go backstage while the awards were still being presented and then leave 30 minutes before the end? If the RF go backstage they either do it before the event stars or when it has finished, not part way through. How bizarre if true 🤷‍♀️

He needed a big poo?

I could understand that there might have been an emergency with the children and they needed to get home. That's understandable. To hang around for an hour after is just odd. Surely that's not true?

AliceOlive · 15/07/2024 14:14

Maybe @skullbabe knows.

I read they were backstage for an hour then left 30 minutes before the event ended.

Even more rude in my book if true.

I saw this article about how theTV coverage didn't go too well and that Prince Harry's segment was curtailed due to running out of time.

Serena's Mum isn't too keen on Meghan either.

Serena is married to the kind of money that H&M aspire to.

CoffeeCantata · 15/07/2024 15:37

Serena and Venus have worked incredibly hard for their privileged position and are universally admired for it. Correct me if I'm wrong, but i don't think they came from the kind of well-off, Hollywood-connected family that Meghan did and, apart from parents who motivated and supported them, didn't have the leg-up which she had into her chosen career.

In Venus's expression I see someone who sees right through them both, but especially perhaps, Meghan and isn't afraid to show it. She knows a grifter when she sees one and she doesn't need H or M's approval.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 15/07/2024 15:49

Venus and Serena, are, I believe, from Compton, the place that so offends the sensibilities of MM and her supporters. I don’t think they have been anything other than proud of where they’ve come from, because where they have got to has been a journey of graft and immense resilience - they actually did encounter a great deal of prejudice. I find it hard to believe Serena is friends with someone who had many times her advantages from childhood, about 100th of her talent and not a bit of her character.

DelectableMe · 15/07/2024 15:55

They didn't leave before it and they didn't leave after it. Are they still there?

😂

Yes, you’re absolutely right.
I watched the film King Richard about Richard Williams and the sisters. It was brilliant. Those ladies are inspirational. They put so much hard work into reaching their potential and are very well deserving of their success and accolades. Love their pride of where they come from too.

Really? A world class equestrian? An Olympian? Active in many charitable activities and foundations, with genuine involvement, not just set up for her by her brother?
A little bit better than making money from invading people's privacy, monetising victimhood, spreading unpleasant rumours about her family, or just dressing up and making jam.
I would say that Anne has had a productive life, considering the kind of "lifestyle" favoured by some.

I think innate talent can't help but be facilitated massively when endless time to practice free of constraints like earning a living alongside free access to prime livestock, the best training facilities and top of the range equipment are factored in.

Lots of people are involved in charitable work on top of earning a living. Nothing particularly worthy in doing it and having it presented as work justifying a lavish but unearned lifestyle at public expense. It's also worth noting royal patronages have been shown to have little to no effect in increasing charitable donations.

As for dress-up, raiding the box when you're one of the very few who hasn't served in any sort of military role (even Edward managed a few weeks in the Marines) seems at least as pretentious as wafting round a mansion in soft focus.

FTR I don't draw a distinction between any of them when it comes to shameless self-serving. I just think some of them (most especially those with the help of highly skilled spin doctors on tap) are better at hiding it.

Appreciate we're not going to agree though 😁

DelectableMe · 15/07/2024 17:17

No, we're definitely not going to agree, @CathyorClaire if you draw any kind of comparison at all between Harry and Anne.
Harry appears to have a life of greed, mendacity, self absorption and folly.
Anne may be many things, but she's nowhere near as low as her nephew. She has never become a public whinger as a personal career move, monetising her loved ones' privacy.
That's Harry's lucrative and unpleasant career.
His choice.

DelectableMe · 15/07/2024 17:21

I'm just trying to imagine anyone else being given an amazing patronage, being supported with the set up, being given generous family donations and yet taking all the kudos and all the credit.
Then slagging off the very people who helped him with time and money to give him this amazing opportunity.
Low behaviour from Harry.

CathyorClaire · 15/07/2024 17:28

Anne may be many things, but she's nowhere near as low as her nephew.

True.

Harold make snakes look trustworthy 🙂

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 15/07/2024 17:30

I actually think it is a shame Anne wasn't in the military. She'd probably be running the show if she had been! I don't know if it was a matter of the etiquette of the time or something. I do hope Charlotte gets her chance if she wants to take it.

DunkThatBastardBiscuit · 15/07/2024 18:04

He probably left because he had somewhere else to be.

I don't think women got many opportunities in the armed forces in those days.

She focused on eventing and achieved at the highest level. Yes, money helps, but it doesn't make get you to the Olympics. And doesn't give you the guts to take the falls and get back.on again.

We'll never know because she hasn't made a six part Netflix documentary complaining about her terrible life 😂

I was just thinking about the support for Harry on these threads and the comparison to/criticism of Anne and I was musing...can you imagine if someone had attempted to kidnap Harry at gunpoint on the Mall?!

I was thinking of that earlier! He’d never stop dining out on it if it had been him!

Trying to imagine why they went backstage for an hour ? Surely anyone worth hobnobbing with ( in H and M’s opinion) would be in the audience?
